Ok! I'll give a brief report on my situation: preparing to record the themesong for "Thunder"; doing the final legwork for the release of my new book in this year Book Fair; preparing to record the 2nd season of "Apprentice Chef"; shooting the commercial as the spokesperson for the new line of products for "衍生行"; doing ambassadorial obligations for several charity organizations; of course, playing badminton...maybe this is the most tiring work of all, haha!   

好吧！那我報告一下近況：準備為＂紫禁驚雷＂錄主題曲；為計劃在今年書展推出的新書做功課；準備拍攝新一輯＂大廚出馬＂；為＂衍生行＂的新產品做代言人拍廣告片；為數個公益團體當大使；當然，還有打羽毛球......這也許是最累的，哈哈！

Steven is very happy because stepping into the year of Rabbit, his work continues incessantly.  Besides hosting the high rated “Book of Words”, numerous Mainland advertising sponsors also queued up to invite him to shoot commercials for them.  No wonder he is so ebullient.  Earlier, he drove his newly purchased HK$500K 7-seater van to Happy Valley to purchase dessert soup (tong sui) and champagne.  When he saw this reporter, he kept his cheerfulness.  When asked why he had take out?  “I’m meeting up with Ken gor (Kent Cheng) tonight so bought some dessert soup and champagne as gifts to show respect.”  Upon saying that, he bid this reporter goodbye and drove away in his van.

Steven expressed that last year he had 4 series aired one after another (tn: AWT, Stupid Cupid, GW, LTT) which increased his exposure, consequently his stage performance and advertisement jobs were unceasing. He said candidly that his outside income pleased him.   So of course he used the excess disposable income to reward himself.   But Steven did not go for the head turning kind of vehicle instead he got a van.  He said: "I had always wanted to buy one lo."

That  night, Steven drove to Happy Valley, after parking his new van, he stepped into a dessert place to buy dessert soup.  This reporter saw him chatting amiably with the employee, seemingly in good mood.  Holding two big bags of dessert soup, he walked to the nearby Wine Cellar.  After making a round inside the store, he pointed at a bottle Dom Perignon Vintage 2002 champagne, and without hesitation charged it to his credit card for a hefty sum of $1,228.

Even though laden with goodies,  Steven still walked briskly, while chatting  with this reporter; he was so very nice.

Steven Ma (Ma Zai) was in Toronto as a special guest star in Canada Chin Picnic Event to help celebrate Canada's national day. His local fans gave him a fulsome welcome. Ma Zai's series generally did well in Canada. Because the series AJCL which he starred in is right now airing on TV, on the afternoon of his performance, the venue in CNE (sic. Canada Exhibition Place) was already jam packed with spectators. What's more, the local Ma Zai groupies had pursued their idol from the autograph signing session (sic: yesterday) all the way to this stage performance site. Moreover, they had persistently attempted all kinds of adroit maneuvers to get close to the stage so as to shake Ma Zai's hand and get his autograph. Their fervor elated Ma Zai enormously.

Ma Zai performed several TV series theme songs, and also did a duet, "Dai Nui Fa"《帝女花之香夭》with event organizer, Yip Tse Ching ( Louise Lee Si Kei's daughter). He praised Tse Ching for singing well. Although Ma Zai was soaked in sweat performing in such sweltering heat, but seeing his fans' enthusiasm and warmth moved him, and also galvanized his performance. After his performance, Tse Ching dispensing a gracious hostess' hospitality, had not only prearranged a badminton match between Ma Zai and her friend, but also took him out to enjoy the local cuisines. Ma Zai said: "Celebrating National Day in Toronto is even more fun than celebrating New Year in Hong Kong. Can watch fireworks, and also can buy small fireworks to play."

Charmaine Sheh Si Man was rumored to leave TVB and focus on money-earning opportunities in China . Bowie Lam and Joe Ma Tak Chungwill be heading to mainland as well. With few big stars left, TVB was forced to increase wages and please their remaining artists, such as Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Steven Ma Chun Wai. This included casting Bosco in a new Shaw Brothers’ movie and airing Steven’s new series in the latter half of the year, paving his road towards winning the TVB Best Actor Award this year.

There is a great demand for artists in the mainland film and television industries. Many mainland companies were actively recruiting Hong Kong artists and willing to pay high salaries. Many artists were interested in filming for mainland. Once dominating the industry, TVB now has to pull out various incentives to make their artists stay with the company.

TVB Eager to Make Steven Ma Stay
TVB regularly invited artists to dinners. In the past, Steven Ma was rumored to not get along with TVB executive, Viriginia Lok. However, at a recent dinner, Ms. Lok sat next to Steven and frequently chatted and joked with him. The atmosphere was harmonious. With Steven’s contract ending this year, TVB was eager to retain him.

An inside source at TVB revealed, “Steven often filmed ancient dramas and was very suitable for the mainland market. With mainland companies paying such high filming fees, TVB was afraid to [drag its relationship with Steven like before]. Aside from producing a new culinary program Apprentice Chef <大廚出馬 2> featuring Steven, TVB will be airing Thunder of the Forbidden Palace <紫禁驚雷> in September, which will pave the road for the TVB Best Actor Award. Anyway, TVB was using every possible means to make Steven stay.”

A huge turnout of fans attended TVB xiu Sang, Steven Ma's autograph signing session at Splendid China Mall, and to be in close contact with the DJs from A1 Chinese radio station. Steven making his appearance on stage roused his fans' enthusiasm to a feverish pitch, bringing the session to its highest point. Steven together with A1 radio station DJs will be at the Exhibition Place today to perform in the Chin Picnic National Day 2009 event to celebrate Canada's national day with local fans.

Yesterday, Steven was attired in a gray light jacket over a red t-shirt matched with a pair of gray denim jeans and white sneakers, and on his head, a red cap, looking totally like a nice boy from next-door. In the midst of fans' enthusiastic chanting Ma Zai, Ma Za", Steven quickly strode onto the stage platform inside the Splendid China Mall, waving at and greeting his fans.

The autograph signing session MCs, Mr. Wong and Mr. Liu helped whipped up the atmosphere in the session. Later, games were played; 5 lucky draw winners were able to have their pictures taken with Ma Zai and to also receive a Steven autographed special t-shirt from A1. When an old lady came up on stage to take pictures with Steven, the latter's patience in helping her up the steps onto the stage elicited loud, continuous applause from the audience.

A1 Chinese radio station DJs Mr. Wong and Mr. Liu did a live broadcasting of Steven Ma's autograph signing session inside Splendid China Mall at 3 pm yesterday. Mr. Wong, the assistant manager at A1 Chinese Radio station, divulged that Ma Zai and Yip Zi Ching will sing a Cantonese Opera duet, “Dai Ngui Fa”, at the Chin Picnic National Day 2009 celebration show tomorrow, in addition to several other pop songs.

Steven's Emperor Kangxi is arguably the most favorite character among Steven fans .  Many of them became his fans because of his beautiful Kang Xi visage, his characterization, his purity, his noble and aristocratic bearing and form, and most of all the child and emperor in him. Undoubtedly Steven looked and acted the part as the young emperor perfectly. And his Kang Xi has the most screencaps done because he was so beautiful to look at, like a character out of an ancient script.

When first approached by DOMD producer, Director Lee, for the role of Kangxi, Steven was very reluctant to do because he did not want to shave his head, thinking it would destroy his look.  He was dead wrong, instead he looked marvelous as a Qing character.  At the time Steven was 26 years old but he could very well pass as a 16 year old emperor per his character in the series.

2008 book fair to promote 圖文並謬

Including this book, 圖文並謬,to date, Steven has published 5 books in all. Unlike the previous four which are co-authored with other writers, this is the very first book that was totally his own; he wrote the essays himself and the accompanying pictures are all taken by him.

Because of his work, he took 3 years to compile all his essays, snatching time to write in between projects and filming. June 18 was the dateline to get the book published, so two months before the dateline, he took 2 months off from work to wrap up the materials for his book. What makes him so happy is that a Canadian woman had her daughter on her behest ordered 200 books and to have them distributed to various charity organizations and the libraries.

Steven plans to have his 6 book published sometime next month. The book features healthy soups using medicinal and nourishing Chinese herbs.

The last time (2009?) Steven was asked who his best onscreen partner was, he chose Maggie. To these days, Steven and Maggie remain good friends, and they chat with each other on weibo.

Steven: Actually, I want to say something on my partner's behalf. I myself don't think her temper is all that bad. I really don't think so. On the contrary...like in our earlier series, when we did early morning shoots, sometimes she would buy breakfast for me, and of course I would do the same for her too. Sometimes when I was thirsty she would give me her drink. Here, you can have it first. To me, she is quite caring of other people. Well, I guess it all depends on whether there is affinity between two people.

2011-03-19 Regardless whether it is oneself or one's friends and family who got sick, one's mood is often affected by it.  Sometimes would even do something that could hurt others.  What I am talking about is that last year in many hospitals, some patients and  families, because of affected emotions during the treatment period, behaved violently and offensively towards the medical and health personnels.   To rectify this situation, the Hospital Authority especially shot a promotional film to promote cooperation between patients and health care personnels, and invited me to be the main actor in the film.  To assist in such a meaningful film, I, of course, accepted with alacrity. The feedback from the promo film broadcast was extremely positive.  Earlier on,  HA even presented me with an award to thank me for my voluntary participation. Actually, I am very happy and willing to  be able to  help out the medical profession.

3/18 01:06  Right now making soup for all the behind-the-scenes colleagues in Book of Words.  They like the soup, but tomorrow will need to re-simmer it! Hmm.. suddenly feel very introspective!  For people to be alive, to meet and be acquainted with each other is already an incredible predestined fate. To collaborate and even  become friends elevates the fate to a higher level! I hope that between people there is more concern and love, less calculation and suspicion, more understanding and tolerance, less biasness and hurtfulness...to be alive is already a great blessing, why not be nicer to other people?

3/16 16:11 I respect the freedom of speech, and that no one has the right to deprive others of this birthright, but at the same, I also believe that exercising this freedom in public forums comes with 'responsibility'.  Some overly extreme, fabricated or trolling postings or news , I have no control over; but I constantly remind myself, words can save people but they can also insidiously harm people! I believe it is better to think clearly before acting! Mutual sharing.

Book of Words II, hosted by Steven Ma,opened with healthy rating, elating both front stage and backstage crew.  Steven candidly says that the show has a good concept.  To do the program well, besides recording the show the whole day on Saturday and Sunday, he secluded himself to do homework on Thursday and Friday.  He laughingly likens his nervousness to that of preparing for exams!  And when it premiered, Steven's hosting skill was highly acclaimed.  Some Mainland producers have already locked their sight onto him as a target to snatch.  But since his contract will not expire until next year, Steven expresses let fate decides.
