weibo 6/1 Happy June 1st children's day

26mins ago  Here's wishing everybody and Little Piggies, June 1st, Children's Day. 祝大家和小豬們"六一"兒童節快樂"!

TN: What a wonderful picture.  Steven must have taken the picture from the glass ceiling.  And he looks absolutely gorgeous with that bright smile of his.

The picture must have been taken when Steven had lunch/dinner with Uncle Choi judging from the same outfit.

weibo 5/31 stop pm Steven

5/31 17:07 Today went to learn the art of "deep frying"  including Chinese style prawn balls and tempura shrimps.  Awesome! 今天去學「炸功」,包括中式蝦丸和天婦羅!正啊!

5/31 15:03 I don't understand how the non friended posters can still continuously send me messages, and of the slightly intrusive kind. too.  Please show some dignity. 我不明白,為何沒有互相關注的卻能不停傳私訊給我,而且有點干擾性質了,請自重!

TN: Like his Little Piggies, I too thought Steven had disabled the PM function because he did announce to his piggies that he would when he first started weiboing.  Guess during weibo restructuring that function must have been enabled again. I, myself, would never pm him or any celebrity, for that matter, but those who did were disconcerted by his rebuke, each thinking he meant them.  Usually Steven was very tactful with his words so wonder what had prompted his bluntness here?  Did he receive hate mails or indecent proposals or batches of automated ads? lol! Anyway, I'm with the those who think Steven's rebuke is for the automated batch advertisers, obsessive fans or haters, definitely not his piggies who may have pm him occasionally.

Collection of Steven's smiles to warm up your day

Miss seeing Steven on the screen, then look at this collection of his smiles.

weibo 5/30 different perspective

5/30 00:02 Doggie says: You think my expression looks very pitiful, that's because you are viewing me from high above!  Why not try squatting down, the feeling will be different. 狗狗說:你看我的表情好像很可憐,只因你永遠站的高高的看我!不如你試試蹲下來,感覺就不一樣了!

TN: I like how Steven sees different perspectives to the same situation.  A sanguine mind is indeed good to have.

Steven in Miu Siu Ching's new August Series?

Well, it is confirmed by MSC on her weibo that Steven will collaborate with her in August, and what's more, Linda Chung will be in it too.  Another Steven+Linda pairing?  Haiz!  Can Steven not have any fadan as leading lady besides LC?  This will be their 5th pairing, come on!  And Ha Yu has been added by KA to the cast.

So the cast for MSC's series now includes: Steven, Linda, Ha Yu, Nancy Wu, and Edwin Siu.

So now SM fans will have a long wait before Steven starts his next series.  At least it is not another Uncle Choi + LC +Kent Cheng+ Steven collaboration or have Steven shaved his head for The Big Eunuch. miu siu ching weibo

MSC: Soon, the August new series.

Weiboan: Ah! love Siu Ching jie's series the most!!! Especially the series with Steven Ma.  All are classics in my heart...but Siu Ching jie, how come recently you don't look up Ma Zai for another collaboration?  Really looking forward to you both creating another classic.

Per Producer Miu Siu Ching's ambiguous post, Steven might be in her August series production. So is she saying she will have a series in August or that she will have a series with Steven?  What do you think?

Also I was a bit down to learn that the series is another small production in the warm and lighthearted family genre because he has been in too much of those kind.  And also am wondering what is Steven going to do between now and then. I was hoping that he would be in a Mainland grand production instead.

That said, I am happy that Steven gets to collaborate with Miu Siu Ching again. Their Better Halves and WTLB are classics to me though their Brink of Law is not as good. Hope they can come up with another classic.

Apprentice Chef II epi 2 Steven as chef

Don't understand why my video and audio are out of sync.  Also why the video quality is so bad.

Transcript below

Apprentice Chef II episode 1 assorted video clips

The opening
Voice over: Challenge time limited; cooking creativity unlimited; as such will have master chef shows how, please welcome the host of the show who loves to cook, Ma Zai, Ma Chun Wai.

Steven: Hi, everybody.  Welcome to a totally new season of Apprentice Chef.  I am Ma Chun Wai. In the prior season, I had got to know many master chefs and renowned chefs. But Hong Kong is so big,  it can't be just limited to these few.  So in our completely makeover season of AP,  I invite all the chefs in Hong Kong to show off their culinary skills in this very kitchen.  Regardless of how many years into your culinary skills, or whether your forte is in Chinese or western cuisine, or in various kinds of world cuisines, we welcome your participate in this competition.

In this first round, the 3 contestants are all into Chinese cuisine. … Steven introduces the chefs.

Check out the packed auditorium, and that is only one side of it.  Hope the big turnout continues throughout the season.

To whet your appetite, here are some screencaps from weibo.  And lots more on steven-ma.org

Wah! The audience was big!  Happy for Steven to have such a good turnout but sorry to see that the audience were mostly the elderly, guess the younger generation is just not into cooking show.  Finally, tvb is willing to spend money on a variety show.  Although different from the 1st season where Steven is the undisputed focus, the focus now has shifted to the contestants, it was still entertaining to watch.  However, I like the first premise more because it centered on Steven's cooking ability but now he is more of a bystander hosting a cooking competition show.  I missed the previous intimate interaction of Steven with his viewers as he demonstrated how fun cooking can be.

That being said, the whole feel of the show was grander and imposing.  And with the huge audience gave it an importance and presence.  Will have to see how the latter episodes go.

Anyway, Steven looks absolutely, positively scrumptiously delicious to my eyes.  Very handsome!

This is what Tsui y/y wrote in her weibo: 5/25 22:57  Witnessing AC's recording made me empathized the employees' hardwork. Grand Master Piggy's repeated change of clothes was very tiring.  Behind each success how much sweat and efforts were poured into it?  Guess only those witnesses who saw it firsthand knew.

weibo 5/28 back from Foshan

Steven is his own favorite model for his photograph.

5/28 23:23 Just came back to Hong Kong from Foshan.  Was very happy during the function.  Met Eric Tsang and King (Alan Tam). The atmosphere was very good, awesome!  P.S. Tonight for my performance, I wore a Donald Duck's  bow tie.*(煲吠 ) Not bad, eh? Haha! As aside, congratulations to national team defeating opponents to enter semi-final!  Awesome!

* tn: lol! The English transliteration of the Cantonese words 'bo tai' (煲吠) threw me for a loop.  I was previously trying to figure out their meaning 煲= boil + 吠 = bark.  haha!

Note: From weibo, the function was a company night  for Rufeng, a China petrolchemical company, held in Clifford Hotel ballrom.  Among the invited performers were: Steven Ma, Eric Tsang, Alan Tam, Niki Chow, Wilson Kwan

attendees' posts on weibo:

洋葱姐姐-belindaWah! Steven in person is so young, youthful, good-looking, and fair
劉尛亭:(A RL fan) When it was Steven Ma and Niki Chow, everybody rushed up front to take pictures except for me. Colleagues asked me if I was the '90s but for what reasons should I go take their pictures?

weibo 5/28

uncle choi  5/28 10:13  Last night Siu Ma (Steven) shot Thunder mv. I had wanted to visit but couldn't because of a heavy workload of post production work.  Played the opening themevideo and listened to its themesong, its imposing grandeur is like the rainbow. A decade later masterpiece*.  Also want to thank Chi Wai, Chung Zai, Cheung Mei Yin et al group of contributors. The Forbidden City has lots of talents.

@枝Lam: 13:04 Within this decade your masterpieces are aplenty

@馬浚偉  5/28 13:07  Knew that Uncle Choi was rushing the post production work, painstaking! But truly Thunder's script is very powerful. (not blowing own trumpet) plus its story and the real me has an inexplicable relationship, quite bewildering..... hehee! Yesterday mv shoot for the themesong, "Changing Sky" went very smoothly, Lord Choi, don't worry!

@馬浚偉: True, Ji Jie. Among 5 of them have Siu Ma (Steven)

*Means Uncle Choi's most satisfied series after 10 years from his last series.

weibo 5/28 on Thunder's themesong & sudirman cup

Steven: Thank you, 3rd Brother! But since you sprained your ankle, needs to abstain from certain food. Be careful in what you eat!

@麥長青: 5/28 23:12 From makeover viewpoint, appreciate 3rd Brother's Apprentice Chef. 3th Brother's knife skill is ichiban (醫資棒) (tn: finally figured it out)

Steven:  Wind Cloud team did its best, awesome! National team continues to add oil!

蓉蓉細語 Tsui y/y: On the way to Foshan, Grand Master Piggy still persisted in watching Sudirman Cup.  A number one obsessive badminton fan.

Apprentice Chef 2 - Tavia Yeung as 1st guest

Steven and Tavia's silliness a sign of their feeling at ease with each other.

Narrator: Today TVB's culinary show, Apprentice Chef2, commences filming so naturally its host, Steven Ma, takes it most seriously.  Dressed entirely in white like a Prince Charming , he has especially invited good friend, Tavia Yeung, as his guest.  Not sure if it was pre-planned or that they were like-minded but Steven's and Tavia's looks today are exactly opposites - a stark contrast of one in whole white, the other, whole black - truly a white vs black pairing.

S: White horse, black sheep. First episode so of course; in my whole new Apprentice Chef 2, I'll invite my good friends for every episode, but basically most of them are females because the chefs are mostly males, the 'yang'  (masculinity) is too strong.  So of course would have to get some pretty women on board.

T: Too much 'yang'

S: So, for the 1st episode since  the 'yang' is so overpowering, how can you not get hold of a 'yeung' (rhymes with 'sheep' and 'yang' in Cantonese)

T: True

R: So there're a horse and a sheep. But what dishes would you make?

T: yee, can we take about it?

S: For this episode, together Ah Yee and I will; in every episode I'll learn some cooking skill. In this episode it will test my knife skill. But it's tough to use a knife together.

T: But I long to marry him so I've decided to cut myself  because he has said that if I cut my   hand he will marry me.

S: you..you. you.. Are you currently singer?

T: Single, single, single.

R: Single for today only

S: Single or double?

T: Today very single, no double.

Steven and Tavia laugh and jest freely, guess they are not worried at all about having to cook later.  Talking about cooking Steven says he has much reservation over Tavia's cooking skill but he highly praises Tavia's mother's cooking skill.

S: Becasue we have collaborated in many series already. One time Ah Yee brought in this big bag of local cakes* made by her mother to share with co-workers. When I ate them I thought they were delicious.  And then the 2nd time, I found out her mother made some more to be shared with co-workers. Auntie especially made a big bag of the cakes for me.

T: Yes,

S: Only for me.  Like about 10 to 20

R: like a son-in-law

S: At that time I thought of that too.

hahaha!

S: I thought, yeeee, perhaps auntie wants me as son-in-law?

T: Tonight I really have to bleed?

S: So, perhaps I have to close my eyes and prick Ah Yee's finger with a toothpick? Aiya! bleeding!

T: suck

S: And I help her to suck the blood. And then marry her?

R: If that is true, then so happy.

T: not bad, it's called cooked out a romance.

R: Want to make a series out of that?

T: No need to

S: We're filming it right now.

Narrator: Tavia says she is putting her life on risk to be a guest in this show, but to support her friend she'll do it.  But it's not easy as a pretty cook because one can easily get exposed unwittingly.  Wonder if Tavia has taken precaution against exposure.

S: The kitchen counter is this high.

T: Want to test it out now?  Just now when I went in to change my clothes they said had to wear low cut clothes.

S: But today's clothes are your own.

T: Because those they booked for me covered me up to here (neck)

S: And so you become..

T: I chose one with a lower one.

S: Because you would have some bending over.

T: you said you wouldn't let me do any heavy work

S: That's why I'm doing the bending over cos' my bending over is fine but you remember not to bend when you talk to me.

T: Ok

R: She can pretend to bend over

S: If she bends over to ask me questions, it will be me cutting my finger. Just a glance, wah, aiya.

T: I'll try my best. If he bleeds, I'll marry him.

R: A turnaround.

S: That means I'll be married into your family name.

T: So, take up my family name

S: Hah? I can't

T: Horse and sheep are very matching.

S: both imprisoned on a farm.

Steven: Tavai's mom is a very good cook but as for Tavia..,

Interviewer: like mother like daughter

Tavia: My cooking is not bad.

Steven: You've never cooked for me

Tavia: I'll cook for you tonight

Tavia says she and Steven have previously made a pact so that she will feel reassured as a special guest for the program.

Steven: In every episode there is a special cooking skill, this one will feature the cutting skill...

Tavia: But I really want to marry him, so I decide to cut myself, because he said if we cut ourselves he will marry us home.

Steven: what marry you all? 13 of you, how to marry all of you? Only marry you!

Tavia: Marry the first one and the last one.

Aimee Chan as special guest in Apprentice Chef

Steven Ma Explains his tomato egg; Aimee Chan smiles sweetly.
2011/05/28  The night before, Aimee Chan and Tse Ling, both former Miss Hong Kong, attended the recording of Apprentice Chef hosted by Steven Ma.  When Steven saw Aimee he immediately explained his previous analogy of her and Moses to a tomato and egg pairing because he feels that she and Moses are both very 'guai', and as matching as tomatoes cooked with eggs.  At hearing his explanation, Aimee smiled sweetly and said thank you to him.

*****************************************

Steven Ma uses tomato and egg to describe Moses Chan and Aimee Chan.
2011/5/25 Last night Steven Ma was promoting his program, Apprentice Chef.   He revealed that after his show debuted on tv, whenever he dined out in restaurants, many of their owners approached him expressing desire to be his guests in his show.  He has invited many tvb fadans to be special guests in his show including Sonija Kwok, which she declined in the end.  Not show if she is too busy preparing for her wedding.  Steven said he can understand her because she is in China and can't find time to return to Hong Kong.  He doesn't know when is the wedding but no matter where it will be held, he will find time to attend.

Steven Ma revealed that later he would invite Aimee Chan to be his special guest.  When asked if he knew about Aimee and Moses Chan's rumors, Steven said they are both very 'guai' (well-behaved), can be said they are as matching as tomatoes cooked with eggs.  steven-ma.org

weibo 5/27 Steven's response to News below - religion

5/ 27  23:17 Reporter friends have misunderstood!  In last night's interview, I said since 2006 in the Daily News column and later in my prose essay book (tn:圖文並謬), I had already mentioned that many of my friends thought that I was a Buddhist because my late mother loved Guan Yin (tn: Goddess of Mercy) but at that time, I actually did not have any religious belief until a few years ago when I started attending church occasionally or played badminton with church friends.  But that I have not yet to be baptized!  However, last night's interview was truly rushed so maybe there was some miscommunication between the speaker and listeners! Thank you!

Haiz, so tiring to be celebrities.  First, has to be careful with words when speaking to anybody, because these words may snowball into something entirely different which may later re-surface to hound them.  Second, their words are intentionally twisted and taken out of context to cast a negative light on them. Third, to prevent misunderstanding has to clarify their former words so as to curb rumors and negative press.
Tiring, very tiring.

Steven Ma Grateful to Stephen Chan for keeping his word.

Reposting of this article disallowed.

2011/05/27On.cc  Recently, Steven has been said to have changed his religious faith therefore is now been highly utilized by Stephen Chan.  During the recording of Apprentice Chef, Steven denied the above claim, and strongly stressed that in the past he has never subscribed to religious faith, although he has attended 藝人之家 ( a group of baptist group comprised of HK artists) but has not yet being baptized.

Steven says candidly that earlier on he has had wanted to leave the nest. At that time, Stephen Chan invited him for a negotiation discussion.  Steven says he desired his own culinary show and to sing, so his present jobs are the realization of Mr. Chan's earlier promises made to him.  Steven is grateful to the latter's responsibility and that he keeps his promise.

TN: I'm so glad Steven clarifies that he became Christian not because of Stephen Chan's influence.  Like I have mentioned earlier, Steven had already publicly revealed on weibo his Christian faith after much spiritual searching on his own not because of somebody's influence.

Steven Ma Totally Depends on Stephen Chan

1st Weekly vol: 1107
2011 June 2nd @
Disclaimer: This is a tabloid reporting with its usual dollop of salt and vinegar seasoning, so read it with a grain of salt.
Ever since Stephen Chan got entangled in a corruption case, favorite generals Amigo Chui and Patrick Tang drew a clear boundary from him. Since his reinstatement to his post at TVB in November 2010, President Chan displays a change of style from his usual, even when he assisted jobless Amigo Chui to get outside job; no words were mentioned of it, very low profile indeed.

But the remaining Chan party member, Steven Ma, still receives President Chan’s patronage, besides a custom made Book of Words being arranged for him to host so as to heighten his image, the second season of Apprentice Chef will also be ostentatiously launched.  Their relationship is getting more intimate. As the lead ‘honey’, Steven, who had previously believed in feng shui and numerology now believes in Jesus Christ because of President Chan. (see note1)

Last Friday, May 20th, Stephen Chan left work at 7 pm and in a 7-seater white Toyota van was driven to Tsim Sha Tsui. H was later dropped off at Granville Road where he met up with Steven Ma, Pastor Enoch Lam, and Sharon Chan, who has taken time off for several months due to illness. They partook a private dinner together during their bible study.  The four of them left around eleven o’clock at night.  While waiting for their rides, President Chan chatted incessantly with Steven and et al. When the van arrived, President Chan and Pastor Lam got into it, while Steven got into another similar style and color van and was driven away by the chauffeur back to his Ho Man Tin residence.

Abandoned one after another by Amigo Chui and Patrick Tang, President Chan now focuses his attention on his other favorite general, Steven Ma. Apparently, President Chan not only supported the latter to host the 2nd season, Book of Words, but also privately thought of gimmicks to aggressively re-package the 2nd season Apprentice Chef from a previously less known prequel, even as to invite various master chefs to competitions so as to create momentum for the show and to hype up Steven’s popularity.

An employee reveals: “Mr. Chan is very low profile theses days, even though he is concerned about Ma Zai’s program he won’t butt in with opinions. Like in Book of Words, actually he and Steven and another professor brainstormed over its premise. And then would let Steven voice out the ideas. So whatever guests Steven wanted to invite is fine, even the producer, Fok Jak Gei, had to listen to him and could not change the people. In Apprentice Chef (2), Mr. Chan gave him lots of ideas, thus making the gimmick works much better. Last season did not have too much atmosphere; this time will be much more merrier.”

To build up his favorite general, President Chan has earlier arranged a meeting between Steven and the owners of a movie company, Lam Siu Ming and Wong Hoi Fung, in hopes of opening up a new outlet for Steven for him to get into the film circle. Their relationship has become tighter. Influenced thus by President Chan, Steven, who previously believed in Buddhism and feng shui, suddenly changed steerage and following suit now believes in Christ.*

An insider says: “Earlier on when Ma Zai was off work, they two seemed very close. They even went to watch Faye Wong’s concert together. ** Because President Chan has a lawsuit pending, it is not convenient for him to get too close to the artists. So they mostly made arrangements to meet up with Pastor Lam for meals and talks. Even though in the past President Chan would find people to do feng shui, but after his problems started, he has turned to Christ. He has shared a lot of his personal experiences with Ma Zai. Now that Ma Zai also believes in Christ, they having the same faith makes it easier to communicate.”

Footnote to * and **: Steven has earlier disclosed his Christian faith in his weibo last year so his change of religious belief is not because of Stephen Chan's influence but way before then.  But I do believe that their having similar faith must have expedited their communication.

** Again disclosed in his weibo, Steven mentioned watching Faye Wong concert with a group of people including Fala and her boyfriend.  A weibo's posting of a picture also shows that among tvb artistes at the concert, Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh were there too.  Not just Steven with Stephen as implied in this report.

Steven is unbeatable handsome in Qing Dynasty costume.

20mins ago  During Thunder's mv shoot, there was an action shot, which I should be able to handle, but when doing the "phoenix fingers' I felt suddenly faint!  Turn out that I still did not have my lunch, so the sugar level dropped drastically. Fortunately my colleague immediately bought me some sweets, else would have fainted, then that would be truly embarrassing.  Heehee! P.S. Foshan friends, see you tomorrow!

After so many weibo entries on his obsession with badminton, those who have not watched Steven played must be curious at his skill.  Here's a video of him in a badminton charity game 2010 playing against China's national top badminton player.  When the video ended, the score was 5-1.  Guess Steven was losing.

Currently Steven Ma and Bernice Liu are busy filming for their new series "Breakthrough Action". A day earlier, both of them were filming outdoor scenes at Chung Hom Kok. This scene is about them remembering their youth, at that time Bernice was 16 years old. For her appearance, she has combed two pigtails as well as wore a school uniform. Steven portrays a 20-year old university student. Steven has a crush on Bernice and meets up with her at Chung Hom Kok.

This scene required a rainy scenery, however the sun was shining. So the drama team needs to wheel out the water wagon to reproduce ‘artificial’ rain. In addition to the rain, they were also exposed to the sun, so they had a hard time. The worst was that there are many mosquitoes in these suburbs. Bernice and the drama team all became a target for the mosquitoes, but Steven didn’t have any. He was actually teased by numerous people that his flesh wasn’t sweet enough. Steven will help Bernice ease her itching as he chats with her the whole time when they don’t have to film.

Very compatible with her
He even praised Bernice’s appearance as a school girl to be very realistic, he said: “Bernice is very hard-working. She came to Hong Kong when she was still studying in Canada. Her grasp of Chinese wasn’t very good, but she will write down the pinyin pronunciations. And when she doesn’t understand, she will ask the drama team for help.” When asked whether he had a similar first love experience, he awkwardly said: “I don’t remember! It was too long ago!”

When asked further whether he has pursued any girls in high school, whether he has been rejected by them, he said: “I have tried once. I went to an all boys’ school, so I pursued some girls from the nearby girls’ school! This time, Bernice’s appearance is very cute and real. [Aren’t you afraid that someone will be jealous when you’re openly admire her?] I don’t know who you are talking about! I didn’t pay attention to all the rumours in the entertainment circle. I don’t care about it.” Steven continues praising Bernice’s frank attitude and that he feels very compatible with her. However, he states that he is an adult, so regarding to rumours, it will not affect him

Operation Breakthrough stars shower each other w/ praises
Ron Ng, Bernice Liu, Steven Ma and veteran actor Elliot Yue (aka Ngok Wa) were filming on location earlier for new series "Operation Breakthrough", during which they all showered each other with praises about their acting talent.

For the younger cast members, working with a respected veteran actor such as Elliot was a memorable occasion and although he has not filmed a series for over ten years, his acting talent is still acute and he was right into character as soon as the cameras rolled. He was very polite and praised his junior co-stars for being very hardworking and in no way inferior to many more experienced actors. He got on particularly well with Bernice, who originates from Canada, where Elliot has been residing and Bernice was a little shocked when she found out that Elliot knew about her: "I don't know him at all, but he remembers me taking part in a beauty contest in Vancouver. I think he is very absorbed when he is acting and he is very skilful. (Is there any pressure working with your seniors?) No, I hope I can learn a lot from him and he is very amicable."

Ron was also full of praises at working with Elliot and Steven for the first time: "I remember watching Elliot in 'Looking Back in Anger' and I admire him for still being able to get straight back into acting after over ten years away. I would never have guessed how witty and humourous Steven is and after five years away from modern series, he is still as good looking!"

After receiving so much good feedback from his juniors, Elliot was asked about the fact that the last series that he filmed was with the 'Old Five Tigers', but this time after ten years, he is back filming with Ron and Kenneth Ma from the 'New Five Tigers', but he says he doesn't know. "I didn't know that TVB had 'New Five Tigers', but I have watched their series when I was in Vancouver and they are very natural. They all have great potential and work hard to get into the roles. (Are you getting used to it again after so long?) Yes, apart from the hot weather. (Will you continue filming series?) We'll see how it goes now."

Ta Kung Pao 22/06/06

TVB's new series "Operation Breakthrough" had a blessing ceremony yesterday attended by cast members including Ron Ng, Steven Ma, Kate Tsui and Shirley Yeung. Kate was shooting a rape scene earlier and accidentally injured by a door, so she was still sporting a slight bruise to her cheek yesterday. She says that producer Mui Siu Ching is very good and let her rest for two days. She adds that luckily she has got a bit of a tan, so the injury is easily covered by a little concealer. She laughs that there are not many action scenes in this series, so maybe this one can count as one.

Ron also had a part in the rape scene and in his haste to help Kate, he accidentally trapped his hand, but he laughs that thanks to Kate, he got a couple of days off. With reports that in a holding hands scene earlier, he still held onto her hand even after the cameras had stopped rolling, Ron explains that they were still filming and holding hands does not mean anything. Later, there will be a proposal scene. Ron's series "Pain of Men" reached just 28 points last week and he hopes that this will move up and he knows that the reaction has not been bad. Asked how he will help to push up the ratings, he says that if it goes above 30 points, then he will buy abalone flavoured noodles for everyone. When the press booed him for this, he laughed that he meant abalone and noodles. When the reporters suggested he should go topless, he smiled: "No!"

After paying her respects, Shirley immediately packed up some roast pig to take away. When the reporters said she was very thrifty, she says that she was taking it home to make congee and then she will feed the bones to her dogs. She feels that we should not waste food and bones are very nutritious for her dogs. When it was mentioned that she should be able to buy her second apartment with all her savings, she says: "Don't say that, I have to pay the first one off first." She says that she does not mind being called stingy because she doesn't think people think badly of her. Asked if her boyfriend loves her for being so good with money, she laughs that she doesn't know, but this is just her attitude.

Steven has been working as a Children's Ambassador in China recently, staying in Foshan for a week and shooting a special show, where he will play the Monkey King and Angela Tong will play Piggy. As Steven has been very busy at work lately, he has not had time to check his post and the bank has been chasing him for $800. He is considering hiring a secretary to deal with his personal affairs.

Steven Ma Suffers on Rides - Unwell Bernice Watches the Fun
Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Ron Ng, Shirley Yeung and Kenneth Ma were among the cast memebers promoting "The Brink of Law" at the Tamar Site Carnival yesterday. They had originally planned to go on three of the rides, but after two, they had already had enough, so they changed the third activity to a sidestall to try and win prizes. In the end, it was Steven's team that won overall. Whilst Steven was going on the 'Speed Windmill' ride, the safety mechanism was pressing on his sensitive regions, but Ron and Kenneth were fine. Steven laughs: "Well, I am more well endowed than them!"

The stars split into two groups to go on the slide and rides and when Steven went on them, he could not keep his eyes open. He says: "I am not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of the pull against gravity. I usually just go on the merry-go-round, but seeing the girls going on the rides as well, then I couldn't pull out. I have had an irregular heartbeat since I was a child, so I was worried about fainting if I get over-excited."

Steven went on to warn the men about going on this ride, because his genitals were being crushed by the safety mechanism all through his ride. He laughs: "I asked Kenneth about it, but he said he didn't feel anything. (Maybe you have more there?) Well I am more endowed, in the show, they all call me big brother!" Steven understands the need for the harness, but he feels that it does not cater for the feelings of their male customers and if he was a little fatter, then it could have crushed them entirely. Asked if he was in pain, he laughs: "Well we are very elastic! I can handle it." As for the chance of him fainting, he decided against going on the rather exhilarating 'G Force' ride and opted to throw balls to win toys instead because he has quite a good aim and once won over twenty toys for his nephew.

Ron used to love going on rides, but now he is very scared and has become less brave. Talking of Steven's crushing experience, he asks: "So strong? I didn't have it! I was just bothered about holding onto the water balloon. (Have you brought a girlfriend before to win toys?) I tried the game three or four years ago, but I did not have a girlfriend then. Usually when I go dating, we will go to the cinema and rarely play games. Buying them is better because sometimes you can spend several hundred dollars and just win one toy, so it is better to just buy one." Kenneth just has a cameo role in the show and his character has already died. He jokes: "I am wondering why they have asked a dead person to come and do this promotion. (Steven had a crushing problem with the safety latch?) I didn't. Maybe he has more than me."

Shirley dropped her water balloon very early on when she was on the ride and she says it has been eight or nine years since she went on a ride. Although she is not afraid of heights, she is very afraid of the forces and gravity, so she was a little dizzy afterwards. Asked if she will bring her boyfriend to go on the rides, she says she will not because the only reason she is going on them is for work. As for her role in the show being the villain, she says that some viewers have complimented her performance and not scolded her. This has given her a great satisfaction. Later in the show, she will be even more evil, getting someone to rape Kate Tsui's character and then murder people, so this may be a shock to the viewers.

Bernice has been working too hard lately and has become unwell, with her voice being husky for over two weeks and still unwell at yesterday's event. She is also suffering from an imbalance in her ears, so she dare not go on the rides at the amusement park yesterday, just supporting from the side. She says: "I suffer from vertigo and even if was not unwell, I cannot go on overly exhilarating rides. The most I will go on is a big wheel."

Bernice's dedication can be seen by all, so she thinks that this illness was brought on by her schedule being too packed. She says: "I had to go to hospital on two occasions because I had a high fever and I even fainted in my home. Luckily my uncle was around." Although the company has allowed her to take a few days off to rest, she does not want to affect the progress of her series, so she was rushing to get back to work. She says: "The company is very good, the work over the past few days has been very easy and relaxed, so I have paid for drinks and snacks for the cast and crew."

She also smiles that maybe because she won the award at the JSG awards and this left her too happy and so she developed a fever from the excitement. Asked if rumoured boyfriend Moses Chan has congratulated her, she syas: "I have not received a congratulatory message from him. (Will you celebrate with him?) No, because I have already paid for everyone's food."

Steven Ma Denies Falling Out with Bernice Liu
Steven Ma and Bernice Liu were filming yesterday for new series "The Entire City Dances" and they made their responses to an untrue rumour. They were filming an argument scene earlier, but when the press took the photograph of the scene, they suggested that Bernice kept having NG's (outtakes) and this made Steven angry. Steven says: "The reporters did ask me some questions, but I just talked about the storyline. I also said that having worked with Bernice before, we had an understanding. With such a serious answer, they still had to make something up."

Steven hopes that in the Year of the Pig, he can distance himself from such pointless reports: "My sign clashes with the stars this year, but it is not too bad. There will not be so much luck in romance, but there will be a lot of people helping me out and I have even received an offer of work for a stage show in April in America and Canada." Bernice says: "There is no need to clarify these things, the viewers who have watched me for a while will understand. When I was filming for 'Healing Hands', they siad I was always losing my temper, but that was what my character was like!"

Watery Promotion for "The Brink of Law"
TVB will begin airing new series "The Brink of Law" on Monday and a promotional event was held at a hotel swimming pool yesterday morning, attended by cast members including Steven Ma, Ron Ng, Shirley Yeung, Sherming Yiu, June Chan, Karen Lee, Yoyo Chan and Kenneth Ma. Ron arrived 45 minutes late and was first to be pushed into the pool as a punishment by the girls, whilst producer Mui Siu Ching said to him on the microphone: "Don't be late next time!" Afterwards, Ron said that Siu Ching was right and he knows what he did was wrong. He says: "Sorry, I feel bad because I set my alarm wrong. The event started at 11am, but I set the alarm to go off at 11:30."

Although it was quite cold yesterday, the pool was heated, so the girls all appeared in their swimsuits and showed off their figures in the water. Shirley's costume was quite conservative though and she says this is because they have to play games so she had to avoid exposing herself, so she chose a sportier swimsuit. As a result, with their better figures, Sherming, June and Karen stole most of the limelight in their bikinis. Shirley said graciously: "It doesn't matter, it is all just for the promotion. (Does your boyfriend not like you looking sexy?) Of course not! The most important thing was not to expose myself during the games." Shirley had to rush off to another event afterwards, so she was keeping a close guard on her hairstyle during the games and avoiding getting it wet.

Kenneth appeared wearing two pairs of shorts, cycling and beach shorts and he smiles: "It doesn't really matter what the men wear, we are all just here to see the ladies." As he does not know how to swim, he was just concerned about not getting embarrassed and not drowning and therefore he did not mind not winning the games. He smiles: "I play football, but I won't find love doing that, so I want to start playing badminton instead! (Is your new year wish to look for a girlfriend?) No, making money still comes first. When I sort myself out, then it will be easier."

Steven also appeared in his cycling shorts and did not wear any swimming trunks. He says that since he was young, he usually wears shorts because he says his bum looks too good and when he wears cycling shorts then other people get jealous. Asked if he would wear trunks to do a fashion show, he says: "You would have to give me time to get fit and a large six-figure sum as a fee because it would be my first time. I was approached by a thermal underwear company from the mainland earlier, but underwear is a little too close fitting, so I turned it down." If the ratings are good for "Brink" will you wear some small trunks? He says: "I am very miserly when it comes to these things. Give me more money because I am guarding my first time. When the right situation arises and the reward is right, then I will give my debut performance."

Steven also says that each time a new series is released, then people will pledge to appear in swimwear, but this rarely materialises. He finds this a little boring so promising a big meal is more practical. What would be a suitable rating for the first week? He says: "I hope for above thirty, because the ratings for 'Dicey Business' were not bad and we should be able to follow them."

Shirley Yeung Reveals Steven Ma has a Female Visitor to Set
Shirley Yeung and Steven Ma were invited onto a CRHK radio show for an interview yesterday and Shirley suddenly revealed that whilst they were filming earlier, Steven had a pretty girl visiting him on the set and bringing him Turtle Herb Jelly, so it seems that Steven has a new love in his life. When asked about this further, Steven seemed a little embarrassed and hesitant, saying that even if he was dating, he would not reveal it.

Steven worked together with Shirley in "The Brink of Law" which is currently airing and Shirley revealed that during filming, she noticed a pretty girl visiting him. Shirley says she does not know the girl, but she is very respectable. She did not show any intimate behaviour with Steven, so it seems they are just friends. Asked about this, Steven said she was just a friend and of course she is respectable. For people to visit him on set is a very ordinary occurrence. When the reporters pushed the point that to visit them at work, then this person must be quite close, he looked over at Shirley and laughed: "This is all your fault!" Steven insists he is not embarrassed, but as she is from outside the industry, then the less he says, the better. Asked if he will keep this relationship underground, he feels that until a relationship reaches the final stage then there is no point in saying too much. When the time comes to get married, then he will go public, but he will not talk about dating.

Shirley realised she had said too much and tried to make things up by pointing out that she has only seen the girl once and she does not feel that Steven is always on the phone. Steven smiled as he said to Shirley: "And I look after you so well." Shirley was very apologetic to Steven and said: "I know." Steven says that she didn't mean it though, so he will not be mad at her.

"The Brink of Law" Promotion
TVB's new series "The Brink of Law" will begin airing next Monday after the end of "Dicey Business". As this show deals with combatting illegal gambling on horses, a group of cast members took part in a promotional event at the Shatin Racecourse and those present included Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, Kate Tsui, Michelle Yim, Ron Ng and Kenneth Ma. As well as playing games, the stars also posed for photographs with the horses. However, they were not very co-operative, losing his temper and leaving droppings everywhere, so there was a lot of waiting around before they could successfully complete the photographs. During the shooting game, Steven accidentally aimed the gun at the floor, dropping all the pellets and causing everyone to laugh at him. Ron was blindfolded for his shot and this frightened everyone into running away.

Steven appeared wearing a smart suit and he smiles that he only realised yesterday that he only had one tie at home that he has worn before, so he had no choice but to wear it again. This is Steven's first show to be aired after winning an award at last year's Anniversary awards and he feels that this series has given him the chance to work with many new faces and will help him create some new chemistry.

Steven points out that in the show he plays brothers with Kenneth Ma and they are both referred to as 'Ma Jai' as a nickname. There is also a crew member from props who is called 'Ma Jai', so there are three of them. Originally, the crew had decided to refer to Steven as 'Siu Ma Gor', but he felt that this was rather sensitive, so in the end, they decided on calling Steven 'Ma Jai', Kenneth 'Ma Ming' and the crew member 'Ma Ye'.

There were reports yesterday that Steven was forcefully pushing himself into photographs with an old granny. To this he responds: "I am innocent!" He explains that the granny had asked him earlier to have his photo taken with her, but because she stood away, he ran up to her to avoid her coming back, so it was all a misunderstanding. With these reports already so early on into 2007, Steven says: "I don't mind, it shows my attraction. At first, I was a bit shocked that they were reporting about an old lady, but I don't really mind about reports like this."

Ron had earlier been linked with Toby Leung in rumours during the filming for "Men in Pain" and with the news breaking that he had spent New Years Eve celebrating with her and Raymond Lam in a bar, then of course the press questioned him about this. He says: "Raymond Lam was also there that night and a male artiste from the mainland artiste who is wokring with us in 'The Drive of Life'. We openly allowed the press to take photographs." He says that Toby also had other friends in the bar and as they played lovers in 'Men in Pain' and again in 'The Drive of Life', then they are good friends.

Asked if he is interested in courting her, he smiles: "No, she is an executive's daughter! (Are you not brave enough to pursue?) No, we are just friends." There were also reports that he and Raymond were drunk on that night and only left the bar at 11am the next day. Ron syas that it was their friend who was drunk and they waited together for him to wake up before leaving together. Of course they also drank, because having a little alcohol on New Years Eve is no problem.

So does going to a bar with Raymond make him a big hit with the girls? He syas that there were a lot of other friends there. Asked who he hugged after the countdown, he says that he was taking part in the countdown in Yuen Long and then he hugged Raymond. Asked if he would like to regain some popularity with "The Brink of Law", he played along and says: "Yes I want to spring back."

Bernice was born in the year of the horse, so she has always loved horses. When she was younger, she once told her mother not to have a pet dog any more and keep a pet horse instead, laughing that it could live under her bed. she says that Michelle did take her to the racecourse to experience it before and she realised that people in Hong Kong own horses to race, but if she was to own a horse, then she would keep in the grassy fields of Canada. Talking of her role in this new series, Bernice says that it is a new trial for her because as well as being slapped by Michelle, she is also hit by Eliott Yue.

Kate was dressed in a short skirt, revealing her rather thick legs. She says that she has been working on losing weight and has already reduced a lot of water mass. She has recently been introduced by a friend for a detox treatment that has reduced her water retention and now she has to depend on machines to help her slim the bottom half of her body. However, this is quite expensive, so she has to work hard to make money to stay beautiful. She also says that when she was filming for "On the First Beat" (aka 'Cadets on the Beat') she was like a tomboy so she lost interest in making herself up. Now she is filming for "The Entire City Dances" and has the chance to wear pretty clothing again, so she is starting to concentrate on her appearance again.

Recently the fortune tellers have said that Shirley has good luck this year and a chance of getting married in 2007. She smiles that she is happy to hear that she will have good luck, but she will not be getting married so soon. She says: "Unless it is a lightning marriage, but I don't think so. (What if there was a third person?) What? A dog? No. I like my job at the moment." She says that she has dated her boyfriend for several years and it is fashionable to have a long marathon of love, but she does intend to have children after she gets married. Shirley indicates that usually she does not dare to have her fortune read because it is ok if they say something good, but if they say something bad, then it will leave a shadow.
