Hengdian fan visit 2 11/26

A group of fans visited Steven on 11/26, but they only convened as a whole at Steven's hotel after he finished work at around 9 pm.

The first group comprised o 4 girls who had a hengdian guide to take them to when Steven was filming on a very remote mountainside. Steven was surprised to them there but chatted with them anyway. See his monk pictures. First time seeing Steven in person they all said he looks better in person than on tv, and one said he was really tall. Then another of fans assembled together and with the help of another Hengdian guide went up the mountain to look for him, but unluckily for them Steven had moved to another shooting location. So they moved towards that site but again wrong site, tough luck, one fan (浚家99) @Steven on weibo and said they were lost, never thinking that Steven would actually get to see her post, never mind actually responding it see steven weibo response. So this group listened to Steven and went back down the mountain especially when through phone with the 1st group they discovered they had earlier visited Steven at work. They did not want to cause trouble for Steven with too many fan visits.

S: There’s this one scene that I’m really happy with. It’s with Mali jie, my mom. After our marriage, Linda conceived our baby, when previously she is thought to be barren. But heaven blessed us with a baby. But because my sister, Fala…she truly loves her brother, me. And she wanted me to get into high society. One day, she got drunk and drove the car into Linda and caused her to lose the baby. Thereafter, I disowned this sister of mine. There I was up on the patio by myself filled with despair; my mom came to talk with me….in the scene we couldn’t control our tears. Truly couldn’t contain them at all…running noses and all.

C: Real tears?
S: Real. The viewers will see that at that time I simply could not control my expressions at all. The sobs, the shudders…. I was sobbing so hard, I could hardly say my lines. That scene was in one take. The producer and director.. I was very happy.. they expressed their thanks to me. That to me was a huge honor –that ‘thank you’ expressed by both the producer and director, thanking us both for performing such a marvelous scene. Their thanks to me were an immense reward.

C: And you stopped crying immediately?
S: No. Still wept. Couldn’t stop at all. .

賈偉南HK 11/26 08:02  The year TVB relocated from Causeway Bay to Tseung Kwan O, I concurrently did both tv and movie. I was the last one at Causeway Bay（「伴我驕陽」）and the first one at Tseung Kwan O （「懸案追兇」） to 'sell' my scripted ideas  to Zhan Jie (Catherine Tsang) . After （「伴我驕陽」） I didn't have the chance to work with Flora Chan anymore.  The Dark Shadow 2003（「懸案追兇」）watch online was the first time collaborating with Steven, followed by "Land of Wealth", "Brink of Law", "Steps", "A Journey called Life".  Wonder if our collaboration will continue after these?

Different kinds of missing someone.

Pining/yearning (思念), thinking of/missing (想念) worrying/missing (掛念), perhaps there's a difference among them. But if the missing (念) is for the same person, no matter how much missing (念) can only say it is fate, it is life! So at this moment in time, who is missing who?

I asked Steven how “cart noodles” looks like?

Steven said: Cart noodles” is when you can choose your own noodles, whether the thin or the thick kind. And then you can choose different stuff as add-ons. Like my most favorite pig skin, fishballs, etc anything I want to add on.

Steven: Ai… I heard that Prosperous Father has a scene on it (cart noodles)
Fan: This year?
Steven: No, should be next year. Maybe after New Year (tn: most like on CNY)

Steven came out for the 3rd time.

During the waiting interval, we discovered that Steven took the time to update his weibo! The post was our group photo with him. Steven wrote: All little piggies have safely arrived at Hengdian for their group visit!  Thank you for your bouquet of flowers, DVD and message book...of course, most important for your warm affection and your continued support! Thank you to you all!

This weibo entry was truly very moving. Every word brought out tears. Holding on to my phone I read the post repeatedly, and thinking Steven is so nice! Soon, the sky got dark quickly.We all still waiting outside the yellow ribbon.  Occasionally, we could hear Steven's voice drifting over.  During this time, Ke Le jie came out to chat with us for quite a while.  She first inquired our general background and then we chatted about Steven.  Ke Le jie was very nice and we all liked her.

Steven Ma (Ma Zai) is currently in mainland Hengdian shooting a mainland grand production tv series, 'Legend of Yuan Empire Founder'. Before leaving Hong Kong, he shot a tv commercial for  "B2 Star European Premium Ham" [B2 星級歐洲 火腿肉」(tn: Ma-Ling brand ) According to the advertiser, after hosting the culinary tv program, Apprentice Chef, Steven's healthy image as someone skilled in cooking and knowledgeable in food has impressed the general public, and matches perfectly with the brand's own superior quality image.  Hence, the advertiser chose Steven over other first line actors as spokesperson.

In Apprentice Chef, Steven had to cook often so his chef image has entered homes, and this is precisely what had attracted the director of "B2 Star European Premium Ham" commercial to Steven.  He arranged several makeovers for Steven appearing as chefs from different countries including: Italy, Spain, Mexico, France and Greece. Steven said the shot was definitely the first of its kind for him

Tsui Siu Ming- hengdian more a tourists attraction than a filming hub

HK Tsui Siu Ming: Hengdian, everybody should be familiar with it. This small village has now become today's movie and television filming hub.  But to directors, they love and hate this place. Love because it is so suited to tv series production, but because it is more like a tourist amusement park than a filming ground. And the organizers seem more concerned with taking care of the tourists than the filming troupes.  The ceaseless flow of people and the unending noise and voices; the proximity of nearby production causing mutual disturbances; the sound of laughter, crying, and yelling heard all at the same time.  I'm going crazy!  

Like I said from watching the fan group video, Hengdian tourists treat celebrities like an amusement park attraction with their rude and insensitive conduct.

Compare to Steven’s liveliness, the Charmaine I saw on the filming site is by contrast very quiet. In between scenes, she is usually either calling or text messaging on her cellphone. Who is the person on the receiving end; that I don’t know.

Legend of Yuan Empire Founder is Charmaine’s first mainland tv series production after leaving TVB, which can be said to be her first cannonball to attack the Greater China market, hence its (series) significance is major and also packed with hope. Charmaine expresses that regardless of any circumstances, she will allow herself any missteps. Even though she is alone on her own, away from home for months on end in an unfamiliar environment, as to be almost completely cut off from the outside, Charmaine says she can withstand the situation, even back then when she was out in Mongolia on location shooting and life was even more arduous. She jests that she has had it even worse when in the past (tvb) she shot series day in day out without rest and sleep for months in a row, but she still remained sprightly. (精靈??) But then again, after enduring for so many years, her physical stamina is not as before.

Fans' Group Visit

Last week (tn: 11/12 -11/13), a group of fans visited me in Hengdian. Actually, much earlier prior to their visit, they had already started arranging for this visit online.

An artist having supporters is of course happy, but in my heart, they are actually more like my brothers and sisters from different places.Perhaps we may have the fate to have met each other once, or perhaps we have never me, if fact, those in faraway places, whether we have the opportunity to meet or not during our life time is still unknown! So I have always treasured every person who silently supports and loves me. Actually, what they have done for me; their efforts and thoughts expanded on my behalf; and every blessing sent to me from faraway places, I can feel them all and will store them in my heart. Today, through this column, I want to say a few words to each and every one of the visiting friends:

Little piggies, thank for your support all this time. Your visit warmed me deeply. Your friendliness, good manners and self-control left a good impression on me. Also, thank you for your gifts, but still the same words from me, don't waste your money on me,your support for me is already enough! Thank you to you all!

TN: Well, what a touching thank you letter from Steven to his fans. Like me, I guess Steven too was impressed by how his little piggies fans behaved when the passers-by so impolitely grabbed his person to take pictures with him without first politely asking his permission to do so. Of course, as celebrity, Steven would be happy to oblige but a little politeness from them would be much appreciated.

Video shows how tourists eagerly rushed to take pictures with Steven right after he finished taking the group picture with his little piggies. The tourists quickly separated him from his own fans without waiting his approval to have his pictures taken with them, like he is an onsite attraction/prop. Poor Steven, poor little piggies to have their meeting cut short. I find the tourists quite rude with their impoliteness, and sense of entitlement. But I guess I can understand the tourists excitement at accidentally meeting a celebrity, regardless of who the celebrity is so long he is a celebrity. lol!  And then there is that poor little piggy bemoaning that when they can have pictures taken with Steven.

Have been back from Hengdian three days now but still feeling restless and unsettled, kept thinking about 4th Brother. Recall his warm smile, and his attractive voice, recall his hearty laughter and recall his thoughtfulness towards us… has been 3 days now but still can’t immerse myself in my work, no motivation, no mood to do that. The images of our chats with 4 ge swirled constantly in my head… that 2 days were so surreal. Sometimes even wonder if it had all been a dream, cos’ it was just too beautiful!

November 1st when Steven went joined the LOYEF troupe in Hengdian we were all so very happy because we could now visit him in Hengdian. Baidu organized a visiting fan group. After group discussion, the 1st visit date was set at Nov 12 and 13 these two days. Because we didn’t have Steven’s assistant’s cellphone numbers, we didn’t know where Steven would be on these days. Baiud organizer had tried ways and means to find out. Finally, found a person who could direct us on this visit – Zoe Jie. (a mainland reporter, weibo) Luckily because of Zoe jie, we got to successfully meet Steven. On the eve of the visit, Nov 11/11, confirmed there were 13 fans going on the visit. On 11/11 evening, received Zoe’s phone call that Steven would be filming onsite at 邢州王府 (palace) in the 清明上河图 sector tomorrow morning between 10 am – 2 pm. Because a fan could only make it to Hengdian at the latest 1pm, I urged all fans to assemble at Hengdian as early as possible or else might not make it.

The two women besides Steven are not little piggies, just some random passers-by who requested to take pictures with Steven. None of the little piggies took pictures with Steven when he came out in his Liu BingZhong costumes because passers-by rushed to take pictures with him while poor polite piggies stood aside. A fan said: What about us?  We don't have solo pictures with 4 Ge? Steven got to be proud of his well-mannered fans.
