When Steven (Yik Jou On) was young, his father was a diamond jeweler but was betrayed by his business partner when their invested xxdiamond was stolen. This reversal of fortunes had Steven out on the streets whereby he met a con man/burglar (Yuen Wah) and consequently took up his ‘trade’ as his apprentice. However, Steven was later betrayed by his mentor, Yuen Wah, thus cultivated his cynical and ‘realistic’ outlook towards people and life in general.
Steven finds out that Tsui Fuk Sang (Yu Yeung) now owns the xxdiamond, and plots to steal it, so as to untie the knot in his heart. He and his girlfriend, Christy, Ka Yu, (Sonija) plan to steal the diamond which is on exhibition in Wonderful Hotel. However, their plan goes awry when the whole hotel is unexpectedly locked down in quarantine when a hotel customer fell sick with an infectious disease. Yu Yeung secured his diamond inside the hotel vault for safekeeping, which greatly upsets the burglars’ plan. When they finally cracked open the safe, the diamond is not in it.
Sonija thought that some other super thief must have stolen the diamond before they could get their hands on it, but in actuality Steven has the diamond in his possession all this time. Meanwhile, Miss Hotel Courtesy, Liu Ho Yan, (Koni) is coming on strong on Steven which makes Sonija jealous.
Three years ago, Sonija was a nurse who fell in love with a colleague doctor. One day, while burglarizing the hospital, Steven accidentally broke into their tete-a tete. During that incident, Sonija inadvertently saw the real kind of person that her bf really was, not to mention belatedly finding out that he was also a married man to boot. Distraught, Sonija got to know Steven and became his partner in crime thereafter. During the hotel quarantine, Sonija wanted to call off the whole plan, but grudgingly went along when Steven insisted.
Sonija once mistaken herself to be pregnant which got her thinking about marriage. But Steven is not ready to settle down and be tied in matrimony, which greatly disappoints Sonija. Added to that, she later finds out that Steven has the diamond in his possession all along. His dishonesty illustrated his selfishness to Sonija. Sonija is determined to turn into a new leaf so she assists Detective Bosco in his investigation of the kidnapping case.
