News 11-14 2014 Steven Ma attending a Cantonese Opera show

Last night Loong Kin Sang [龍劍笙(阿刨)] held her Cantonese opera show《任藝笙輝念濃情》in memory of her mentor Yam Kim Fai ( 任劍輝) at the HK Cultural Center. Many artistes including Liza Wang and Law Ka Ying, Teresa Cheung and her husband, and Steven Ma attended her show.

Steven says when he heard that Loong was having the opera he immediately called up the organizer (tn: Tsui YY) to get him a ticket. He says that the last time he saw Loong was way back in Canada, when he was out there on a gig.  At the time his (former) colleague/friend  (tn: probably Tsui Yong Yong) had a brunch appointment with Loong so he tagged along, as having lunch with Loong was indeed even harder than winning the lottery.  Since then they had not met so he truly cherishes her show tonight.  (Q: Are you going to surreptitiously observe and learn the (opera) skills from her? 偷師) Steven says it is impossible to 'steal' skills from her; she's that good.  When asked about adding shows, Steven says she should and hopes that she would, so as not to disappoint her fans who could not make it tonight.  Stevens says he hopes to meet with Loong backstage after the show to take a picture with her. (Q: So you want to collect Bao Jie stamp?) Steven says: Definitely!

When asked about his present situation he said recently he was in Taiwan on vacation, and that later he would be filming a tv series in mainland.  When asked about the recent news on TVB plans to completely overhaul the Children's program, and on TVB executive, Sandy Yu's  'blood transfusion' shake-up plan of firing 5% employees annually, and later hiring 5% new employees to replace them, Steven says he has heard of it.  He says: "Though I'm no longer a TVB employee but my sentiment towards it remains. I hope TVB will retain some of the current employees. We all have sentiment for the company, and support reforms but I hope TVB will also take into account the human aspect too."

Note: Haha! The 'stamp collector' became the "stamp collected".  The analogy of the Cantonese coined phrase, "stamp collection" (集郵) is that instead of stamps, people can collect other stuff to add to their collections. In this case, Steven wanting to take photos with Loong to add to his photos collection of famous people.

Since leaving TVB, Steven Ma's career has going well. Yesterday, at the Fulam (Seafood) Group Holding Ltd. Company's commemoration event of it becoming a listed company, Steven admitted forthrightly that he is well-paid as the spokesperson for the company, when probed he said it (fee) is in the 7-figure ballpark. As to Hong Kong Umbrella Movement, Steven hopes that Hong Kong people would use compassion, tolerance and peaceful methods to resolve the problem so that they can all have a happy life.

Steven is the spokesperson for two restaurant chain in Hong Kong, one after another they both became listed companies.  Steven jests that he is a good luck charm (to other people "腳頭好") so if any company wants to get listed in the future, just look him up as its spokesperson.  He reveals that he broke his habit of not eating mooncake  when he did the mooncake commercial.

When the subject of Hong Kong Umbrella Movement was brought up, Steven says when watching the news on tv he was worried by the numerous skirmishes. He hopes that people can maintain their equanimity, and not resort to using verbal or physical abuses to resolve the situation. He says: "Regardless students, protesters or the police, actually they all are exhausted. I hope they can resolve this situation thru compassion and tolerance. Don't condemn, don't fight; instead try to use some peaceful means to resolve the situation."

Steven says that he believes the students' motive, from the start of their truancy to their sit-down protest, was well-intentioned but that there were indeed some radical protesters in the demonstration. As he was not there, so was unable to determine those people's identities, he however stresses that he is totally against radical words and extreme actions, and hopes they would embrace that 'Living under the Lion Rock's (HK people) spirit' (獅子山精神). Let go of their conflict, focus on communication, and use peaceful methods to resolve the situation. He hopes they can all have a happy life.

Steven Ma and Susanna Ma have successfully concluded their 3-day concert (8/21-8/23) at Genting Highlands in Malaysia; the audiences' response was overwhelming.  As the 2nd night of the concert (Friday) happened on the designated "Malaysian national day of mourning" commemorating the arrival of the MH17 crash victims' remains in Kuala Lumpur, a moment of silence observance lasting a minute was held at the end of the concert, after which the duo belted out "Tomorrow will be better"《明天會更好》as encouragement to their audience.

When on stage, Steven and Susanna called out to their audience for a moment of silence, the audience instantly quieted down, Steven said: "I saw how earlier the audience was in such a happy mood but suddenly became saddened. Also when reading the news everyday, there are so many reports of tragedy so I want to release some positive energy into the world, thus for this Genting Highlands concert I selected these songs《爸士》,《漫步人生路》and《明天會更好》for their positive messages."    

This Genting Highlands concert was Steven and Susanna's first time collaboration. Because Steven knows how to hype up the atmosphere plus his quick responses, the audience became more and more fervent.  Steven said: "We are both very happy with our collaboration. We want to work together again, and hope to have the opportunity next year to film a series as an older sister and younger brother, respectively."

Susanna said that she honestly did not expect Steven with his gentleman looks is so playful in private, regardless on stage or backstage, where Steven is, laughter's there too. She said: "Steven is a very happy, very sunshine person but when he talks about serious subjects he comes across very mature and his words have substance. His age and his behavior are totally uncorrelated " Susanna was very happy that their 3-day concert sold out every night but was sorry for those who made the special trip to Genting Highlands for the last show but couldn't get in because it was sold out.

Steven Ma Partakes Delicious Singaporean Cuisine

Recently, Steven Ma has been shuttling back and forth between Hong Kong and Guangzhou as part of a celebrity judging panel for the Guangzhou 6-episode reality TV show,《技行天下》.  In the upcoming week (tn: Aug 22 - 24) he will be holding a 3-night concert with Susanna Kwan in Genting Highlands, Malaysia, and when done he will shuttle back to mainland to film a movie, very busy indeed. But he still took time off from his busy schedule to attend Pastor Enoch Lam's evangelistic 2-session one-day event held in Singapore last Sunday, August 2nd. During his testimony he shared his late mother's passing and on how faith got him through his pain, he also encouraged all to respect and to cherish the time they have with their parents during their living years. He became quite teary-eyed when describing his late mother's surgery.

The happiest part of his Singapore trip is that he could partake the delicious local cuisine to his heart's content, in just one day he ate three durians and two young coconuts.  Just so he could have more time to relax and enjoy, after the show he immediately changed his original return flight home to a red-eye flight, thus giving him an extra half day to visit the Universal Studios, Sentosa's newest casino resort and the S.E.A Aquarium. Steven said: "Although the weather was hot but since it's dry heat, it's not too bad."  Since his upcoming work schedules are jam packed, he truly cherishes the time he spends with his family while in Hong Kong.

Steven Ma learns to repair cars in 《技行天下》

A few days ago, Hong Kong artist, Steven Ma, attended the studio recording of Guangdong Satellite TV Station's reality show 《技行天下》as a celebrity guest. During the interview, Steven, who had stayed in TVB for almost 20 years before leaving, said: "2013 and 2014 have been the happiest two years for me since joining the industry because of absolute freedom."  During our chat on the topic for this episode, "Automotive Sheet Metal Works" (汽车钣金工), Steven interjected that "wielding" and automotive repairs are "very easy" because while in junior high he studied at a vocational school.  He even disclosed to this reporter that "auto mechanics' wages are quite high."《技行天下》will air every Sunday starting September 14 at 9:20 pm.

Recently, TVB artists continue to leave, either heading for mainland or venturing into other occupational sectors for further development. Steven was asked the reason for leaving TVB. He said: "Over time I started to feel dry; the watering's gone; how to continue acting?"  So, he left because he sought to absorb new things, to work with different artists in mainland and with different production teams to create new sparks. He explained that his leaving TVB does not mean they would not collaborate again in the future, just that the form of their collaboration has changed, that's all. "Presently for myself, I don't have a long term contract with TVB, so everytime I film a tvb series I would have to sign a brand new contract with TVB for that very series. I actually like this kind of work relationship."  

For this particular 《技行天下》episode studio recording, as the celebrity guest Steven worked with the contestants in fixing cars. Steven said because he studied carpentry, electronics, welding etc in junior high he is actually not the delicate celebrity as perceived by others. To him, being able to personally experience firsthand the different kinds of occupations is very meaningful indeed.

Ignore the news since it is the same rehashing of old news, it's not the first time that Steven has indicated his interest to portray a psycho, so just enjoy the newly revealed photos of an old set of photos taken way back when on June 19. Some of the photos in the set have already been used for a June 19 2014 news report and for a July 7 video reporting.

TVB executive, Virginia Lok, Tsang Sing Ming (TVB's director of external affairs), Steven Ma, Moon Lau (劉佩玥)and Tammy Ou-Yeung (歐陽巧瑩) etc attended "Ta Kung Pao" 《大公報》112th anniversay celebration banquet held at HKCEC last night (Jun 23).  Hong Kong Chief Executive, Leung Chun-ying (梁振英), and the deputy director of the central government's liaison office in Hong Kong, Yang Jian were also among the esteemed newspaper's 500+ invited guests.

Steven divulge his 2nd half of the year work schedules. He says he is very grateful to friends for their show of support for his tentative movie scheduled for production at year end.  He says two artists have already verbally agreed to participate in his movie but until their contracts are finalized he won't divulge their names just yet.

July -- in mainland for an unrevealed project (not movie or tv series); company will officially announce the project in due time.
August - Malaysia concert - 3 nights; will be in mainland to film a movie.

News 2014-6-16 Steven Ma's "I'm Getting Married" mv

Recently when Steven Ma shot the mv for his Mandarin song , "I"m getting married", he invited his 'younger sister' Fala Chen to be his leading lady. This was their second time portraying a bride and groom couple so they had no problem getting into their respective roles. Because the mv was imbued with comedic elements, both the cast and crew had fun doing it and with lots of laughter at that. The mv, shot in a theatrical style, depicts the internal struggles of a groom-to-be on the eve of his wedding. On one hand, he looks forward to marriage bliss, on the other hand, the thought of marriage being a lifetime commitment gives him the jitters as he would have to readjust his present carefree lifestyle. Besides Fala, Steven also invited Lam King Kong (林敬剛), Wong Chak Fung (黃澤峰) and  Vincent Choi (蔡誌恩) as his "brothers".

Steven says: "One day when I get married I will certainly invite them three to be my groomsmen.  Ah Mui, Fala, will be seated at the family table."  In the mv, the groom-to-be performed a plethora of conflicting feelings, much like being torn between the devil and the angel.

Steven: Drink smoothie just as high; abstained from alcohol.Steven Ma is invited by KMB to attend its Father's Day event at  Mui Foo Bus Terminus today. Steven, who has recently created a new song entitled 'Father Bus' especially for his father, will go inside the promo bus to give away copies of his new cd as rewards to the passengers inside who will be riding the bus with their respective fathers. During the interview Steven reveals that he has quit drinking for two months now. He says: "I've always enjoyed drinking but I'm not into excessive drinking. Because I started work early so I've built up a high tolerance for alcohol. I can hold my liquor which makes me drink even more. If I continued this I could die at anytime. Moreover, my own blood pressure is abnormal."  Steven says furthermore whenever he drinks beer after his gym workout he is likely to get a potbelly, thus wasting his all his exercise effort. That is another why he quits drinking. (Does he have an addiction?)  He says no. Sometimes when he met up with friend they would be having alcoholic drinks while he drank milkshake (smoothie) or fruit juice, but still having as much fun. "No alcohol, but still can be as high!"  He said taking care of one's health is also one's being filial to parents.

When queried on how he plans to celebrate Father's Day? He says that he has reserved a private room for his family to partake Kong-Nam (southern) cuisine. "Have also prepared various presents." (What kind?) He says he will give his father a model bus gift package related to his father's past bus route and a copy of his new cd. "Also will give him a big red packet." So his father can use the money to either buy stuff or deposit it into his savings account. He says: "My father is not into buying stuff. Anyway, father can live comfortably."  When asked if he will take his rumored girlfriend, Vivian, to have dinner with his father tonight? He says: "Don't want to talk about it. Whatever fate decrees."
