Revised 10/30/2014 Vote for Steven in Astro polls
2014 Astro TVB voting
Steven has only one nomination - top 15 most favorite TVB TV male character.
Storm in a Cocoon is nominated for best drama. dateline: 23 november 2014 8pm-10pm
Perspective on Astro awards and Starhub awards for Steven - TVB's politics at play. The only time Astro or Starhub awarded Steven an award, a very minor one, mind you, (top 10 most favorite tvb tv character - both times) was in 2010.

Starhub Awards Polls
The voting website for the 2014 StarHub TVB Awards is now open. Vote for Steven in 1) My favorite TVB male TV character; 2) My TVB drama series; 3) My favorite TVB tv theme song.
Note: Like Raymond Lam, Steven is not nominated for My Favorite TV Actor. What a snub to both RL and Steven. So, Starhub worries RL and Steven might actually win that award so outright eliminate that very probability of winning?

2011 Singapore poll on tvb artistes
Don't understand why no photos of the top ranked actors on above page.
Don't know how this Singapore poll of top ten tvb artists was conducted, but anyway, Raymond Lam and Steven both ranked 1st on the poll, although the article headlined only Raymond bagging the top spot leaving out Steven's name. It didn't even deign to mention Steven's name at all in the whole article despite him being also ranked first.
2011 Singapore Top 10 actors: 1) Raymond Lam, Steven Ma 2) Michael Tse 3) Bosco Wong 5)Moses Chan 6)Wayne Lai, Kevin Cheng, 7) Kenneth Ma, Roger Kwok, Bobby Au Yeung 8) Ron Ng, Michael Miu 9) Ruco Chan 10) Raymond Wong
top 10 actresses: 1) Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen 2) Myolie Wu 3) Linda Chung 4)Sheren Tang 5)Kate Tsui 6) Michelle Yim, 7) Natalie Tang, Louise Lee 8) Charmaine Sheh 9) Crystal Tin 10) Aimee Chan
And per Singapore Multimedia's report Top 5 most favorite tvb series are:
1) Omission of Truth 2) Ghetto Justice 3) The Other Truth 4) The Rippling Blossom5) The life and times of a Sentinel
Like I said, don't know how this poll works, so take it with a grain of salt. But it is good to know that Steven and TLATOAS made the list. But shocked at Charmaine's ranking, she who always ranked 1st in the past, just go to show the fickleness of tv audiences.

TVB blog polls
Posted 11 March 2009 - 05:05 PM
Tamaya: I've to get this off my chest about the ridiculous clicking of tvb artistes' blogs. See the image above - those results of blog hits are actually posted on the wall inside the tvb studio. The right most page shows the weekly hits on tvb blogs, the centre; www.163.com, sina.com and sohu.com These clickings are meaningless yet tvb mgmt think so highly of them that the hit results are posted weekly. Steven was like #30 two days ago and after much rallying from fans, went up to 20 or so today. Most Steven fans bypass his tvb blog and gather in his yahoo blog but most now will just click on his tvb blog enroute to his Yahoo's. And then there are the rules of having those mindless clicking recorded in the hit list as there is, get this, a right and a wrong way to click - click 'wrongly', those clicks will not be recorded on the ranking list. Aargh! Fans are like buffaloes with a nose ring led mindlessly by tvb mgmt. Should I click or not click? That's the questions! I really resented being part of a mindless herd. What do you all think?
Posted 11 March 2009 - 05:32 PM
edited to add: I think I will do so too for the next few days, just to show tvb mgmt that the might of Steven fans is something to be reckon with. What fans would do for their 'idols'! lol! Once we were so excited because Steven's tvb blog ranking suddenly jumped up to #3 out of nowhere. (eta: Even top for 4 consecutive days) But our collected & concerted 'force' didn't last long. I read that direct clicking of artistes' blog will not be counted as hits, one must enter his blog through tvb actors page first, and that once in, one must click stuff on his blog page, something like that. I've no idea how to find out if the clickings are counted as hits or not, either.Posted 12 March 2009
Akazukin: About the blog ranking: I also think it's utterly stupid how some 'wrong' clicking doesn't count (i.e. like direct link to the blog - what's so wrong about this?), and only the 'right' way of clicking counts. To be honest, I think that alone defeats the total purpose of this clicking. We don't even know when it counts and when it doesn't. To be honest, I commend the fans that have been clicking in order to show their support to their idols. ..... One more thing is, I think more artistes would be more proud to win an award that gives recognition to their acting skill rather than this blog award (especially if they know the graphic is only derived from repetitive clickings). I believe Steven would be such an artiste.
All in all, TVB still plays much on favouritism up to today, so whatever the result of the blog ranking is, I think they will only take into account those that are already in their favourites and take as excuse to not promote that are already outside their favourite list. Since Steven has been so diligently updating his yahoo blog more than his TVB blog, I believe he doesn't worry about the TVB blog ranking that much. Besides, seeing how he cares for his fans not to sleep too late, he would perhaps prefers his fans to put their free time to something more useful/productive. But if you have the time and drive to keep clicking, why not too? It's never a bad thing to have your idol's name high up there, and we all know a lot of other idols' fans are doing the same repetitive clicking, hence the 'clicking manual'.

Tamaya: Because I dislike the perpetuating of such meaningless ranking derived from absurdness that defies logic. And to have TVB reduced and debased their artistes' hard work to such meaningless competition. When I watched Raymond receiving the blog award, I felt so sorry for him; he is more than just a popular matinee idol, he's also a hardworking actor. All tvb artistes are, so treat them with respect not with a meaningless 'pork' award. That tvb had come to such absurdity is really beyond my comprehension.
Tamaya: I'm skeptical of most online poll results as evidence for whatever. Because often the results are due to: 1)the working of a group of fervent fans or non fans, for that matter, or 2) the unethical (刷票) batch inputing. eta: Take this yule.tom poll for e.g.
Yesterday, Raymond, Ron Steven were the top 3 most popular tvb actors in China; Moses' tickets were in the 100s then (I know because I checked out that poll link posted on steven ma baidu) and today he is sitting pretty on 2nd now; his tickets up by over 70,000 overnight, ridiculous, isn't it? 2009-3-12 12:37 26楼说的没错,早上投票的时候,还是很低的票,现在变成60多万了,排第二了,怎么会这样??... 2009-3-12 13:15 已经704689票了 ?baidu steven ma
I take the online forum comments with a grain of salt too, because the sampling population and its size are obviously flawed. Overall, tvb artistes are not very well-known in China. Among those who watch TVB series, I guess Steven is quite popular, although it's all relative.

nikki01: Yes, Tamaya, such great news! I could not believe it when the ranking page first flashed up today. I wonder if it has to do with his recent visit to KL, Malaysia. I just got back from a function in a neighbouring country so missed his performance but there were 3-4 pages of news on Steven in one of the major newspapers, including half a page on Dogs, which will broadcast on Astro. Such news, I believe will help in creating interest in him and more website searches and visits. Yesterday's ranking seemed to coincide with the big news on his visit, AJCL and Dogs series which will be broadcast soon.
Tamaya: Btw, Steven tvbblog ranking has dropped to #6. The initial thrill of seeing his tvb ranked #1 is truly memorable.
Strawberry67: OMG, first time i see Steven is no 1, so happy for him. Will leave a message for him.
Tamaya: He held on to the top position for 3 days (or 4?). Then it slid to #6 and now he's #8.

If you have problems, ANY at all, please see link from another tvb artist's fanblog. And if you don't have a HK id#, no problem, again link above has the solution to it, just scroll down to the bottom of the page for ID generator to get one. If the id generated is not useable, click `2' again to get a new id. (or google for hk id generator.) The ID must be 8 characters. The 6 characters must be digits 0-9. The standard format of the HKID number is X999999(C), where X can be any capital letter followed by 6 digits and C is the check digit. see link for explanation

Actually, you can skip that id generator by googling the sample of HK id image and then inputting similar numbers using HK id format like how one can get fake Malaysian id for Astro and Singaporean id for Starhub. It's all a game!

Tamaya: Since Steven will be at the Vancouver Beauty Pageant as a special guest star on the day of TVB 42nd Anniversary Award night, Dec. 4th, his chance of snagging an award is nominal at best, but still we should vote for him if only to inflate his votes for show.
Nikki01: Tamaya, why should Steven's chance of snagging an award be low if he is not present? Do you mean that since he is allowed to engage in the Vancouver Beauty Pageant on that day, it shows that TVB is already indicating that he is not going to win or not considering him as a likely award winner or...? I wonder if all the awards are allocated solely based on this fan voting method. If so, then there may be some older artistes who deserve an award but are not selected owing to the lower number of internet savvy fans. I believe there must also exist a panel of judges whose judgement will carry weight besides this fan voting method especially in the final round of selection. Is this fan voting only a screening process and final selection is still dependent on a TVB or its appointed panel or this is it? Do you know?
Tamaya: How to say this? --- that the award system is rigged? It's a game that TVB management plays with its artistes .. much like the carrot and stick mind game. Toe the company line, you might just be awarded, else good luck in ever getting one. But occasionally, some of tvb management award decisions might actually coincide with fans' preference esp. when the series and the candidates are red-hot like Wayne Lai and Michael Tse this year. But yeah, in most cases, the award decisions based on TVB's own agenda have already been pre-determined if not carved in stone. Last year for the 1st time ever, Steven was off the nomination list for any award -- this year he has 6 nominations, think it had anything to do with his management contract being finalized at last? Jessica Hsuan terminated her tvb mgmt contract and coincidentally she is not nominated for any award.
Nikki01: Is this fan voting only a screening process and final selection is still dependent on a TVB or its appointed panel or this is it? Do you know?
Tamaya: I don't know for sure but it's no secret that TVB has the last say on the winners, who may or may not be the fans' favorites or the most deserving candidates. Stephen Chan has said time and again that this awarding of prizes to the artistes is totally a tvb internal affair, although fans' opinions are seriously taken into account in determining the winners. Yea, right, as if! So yes, the management has the final say. Fan voting as a screening process? I see it more like a process to hype up the anniversary celebration. But it can be a 2 sided sword - fans voting can 'push' or put pressure on TVB management to listen to its online polls to avoid alienating its viewers.
Nikki01: Tamaya, unlike the normal western film awards which assess movies across many production companies and are really international in scale, for TVB which is assessing drama series and other programs under its umbrella, I tend to agree with Stephen Chan that this should be a TVB internal affair altho regardless, it still has to be fair and transparent in the eyes of all, including fans. Of course, the latter statement is subjective and not easy to achieve.
It is just like in a company, as a manager, I would want to be able to rate my staff because I believe I know them and their performance best. I understand this scenario may be different since we are talking abt artistes whose performance is really open to all who watch the series to judge but then as an employer of these artistes, other criterias such as work attitude, overall contribution, capability etc are also things that are important that the employer will want to rate (maybe you'll say, yes, but thru other means, not the awards). One thing for sure, if I were from the TVB management team, I shall want to have some say in the award allocation and not just based it solely on viewer opinion or poll.
Tamaya: Haha! Nikki01, you've said it all, anticipating and preempting my comeback response. 咩都俾你讲晒罗! No argument with your above scenario but, but here's another a scenario
If I were a company manager, I too would want to have a say in how the awards are being distributed. However, the case of TVB is different because by it ostensibly and sensationally 'inviting' the public to 'assist' in its award decision-making process, it gives the specious impression that the public's votes decide the winners. The truth couldn't be further away! It could be said that TVB is engaged in false and deceptive advertisement, without even so much as a disclaimer to say that all final decisions rest with the TVB board of directors. 今年「萬千星輝頒獎典禮2009」共設15個獎項,其中12個獎項有賴你的神聖一票 This year 2009 anniversary has a total of 15 awards, 12 of which depend on your votes.
Since TVB made such a big deal of seeking the public's opinion on deciding the winners, it should at least give an appearance of respecting its opinion, and not alienate them by being so obvious in its agenda by awarding the incomprehensible and undeserving winners. Like I say, the polls are a 2 sided sword. TVB should really insert the above disclaimer to its invite.
Nikki01: Hehee! Tamaya, I did try predict your comeback response but hah, I know too that you will still come back with a reply that will make me scramble and bang my head..... You are right, TVB must add a disclaimer that the poll results are not the only deciding factor if true. Is it true that TVB did give out awards to incomprehensible and undeserving winners?
Tamaya: yes! Those come right to mind that did not mirror majority's opinion are:
Kevin Cheng - after all these years, he still gets bashed for it. lol! The untimely award is more a bane than a boon to him.
Gigi Lai over Sheren Tang in WAB? Even Charmaine's acting was better than hers, not to mention Maggie Cheung's.
Fala Chen, the best supporting actress for Steps. ?? Fala has potential for great acting, but not at the point in time when her Cantonese was still considered atrocious.
Shirley Yeung, the best supporting actress for Always Ready - one of the most boring series I've ever watched. Her performance was just average. too.
Strawberry: I think tvb gives the award to whom they like. The voting part is just to show audiences they are doing something. Some actors/actress does not even deserved to be nominated.

《杨贵妃秘史》海选李白 焦恩俊马浚伟成黑马
The secret life of Yang Gui Fei (Concubine) polls: Vincent Jiao and Steven Ma as dark horse.
note:
A rally cry to all Steven's supporters:
Yes, another publicity stunt for another Mainland series. Actually the polls had been open for 2 months before Steven fans got wind of it on the 18th. At that time, Steven was not even included on the Li Bai candidate list then. But after one day of inundating the comments board with his name and writing in to the Sina supervisor, Steven's name was belatedly added in. By then, the top 3 candidates had already garnered thousands of votes. Steven fans have no illusions that Steven can overcome such seemingly insurmountable numbers to come up on top, we only hope to promote his name to the viewing public and to the powers that be. Within a week of fans' relentless voting, Steven went from being unlisted to #7 on the list but still a far cry for the top. Some of you may be unaware but Steven is strongly supported by China TVB viewing netizens. He usually came up strong in Mainland polls, dubious as they may be. Anyway, Li Bai is a character that Steven himself would very much like to portray. And sometimes, flagrant but positive publicity is good for boosting an artiste, and I think this is one of them. So do cast your votes for him here as often as possible. Thank you!

Tamaya, I thought you were not supportive of such dubious polls but why are you promoting this one on Li Bai? What is so special about this one?
Tamaya: Usually I'm not. I didn't even bother posting the info on the Li Bai sina polls in here until the news report about Steven being a black horse for that role hit the newsstands and internet yesterday. I also didn't bother translating that 'news' report because obviously it is a 'chao zuo' (publicity stunt) propaganda written to stir public interest on the series. Nevertheless, I support voting for it because Lady Yang series got:
1)Steven's (together with Vincent Jiao) name headlining the Mainland China printed and cyber papers, now that is good, isn't it? Apparently, Steven's name sells news in China. Artistes and media are like fish and water for obvious reasons. So long the generated publicity ('chao' it may be) is positive on Steven, why not keep his name afloat in news?
2) Sina is a very popular and influential entertainment forum in China. Sina readers who previously didn't know of Steven might be piqued by such news, hopefully their curiosity will get them to know Steven as an actor.
3) The series is a high profile, big-budget series which will cast big name actors and actresses; (although incredulously, China govt is rumored to ban future airing of ancient dramas on tv.)
4) Its director, Long Xiao Gang, is a reputable and well-known director in China. He has been told of the netizens votes and he said he will certainly look into their choice of thespians.
5) Li Bai is among Steven's favorite character to portray.
6) To show the force of Steven fans through voting. No batch voting involved but the actual mindless entering of votes. Btw, many including myself have apparently used up our voting limits because we can't vote anymore. Steven is now #6 still a long way to the top held by Wallace Chung.
7) As an encouragement to Steven that he has many supporters in China despite his mistreatment by tvb. His netizen fans got him his very 1st China entertainment award - the most favorite tvb male character from, incidentally, Sina itself.
So hopefully, the above reasons can persuade you..all to vote. Please do.
Akazukin: Extra note: I love the first pic of him as Li Bai, so handsome. I am for the idea of him acting as Li Bai, as opposed to against the idea of him acting as White Snake's husband (许仙-Xu Xian). I think Li Bai will be a much more interesting character to portray than the White Snake's husband.
Nikki01: Posted 24 May 2009 - 08:07 PM
Tamaya, you have given strong reasons on why `Li Bai' is a worthwhile poll for Steven. I suppose a number of other polls carry some or even more weights on Steven which we have to support.
Like it or not, the TVB artiste website for Steven which ranks the TVB actors and actresses based on the number of hits received daily will be an important yardstick for our beloved Steven. Unfortunately, this site is not doing well. He is ranking averagely 20-30 and really is a pain to see esp knowing that many of the regulars of the website are doing their best to increase this ranking in an ongoing basis which is taxing. So, I do urge you and the rest here to visit it more regularly even for the sake of giving points to Steven, ie just clicking around Steven's site (mindlessly as you say).
BTW, I think I have used up my votes on Li Bai, can't seem to be able to cast after the 2nd or 3rd time.
Tamaya: Posted 25 May 2009 - 11:02 AM
Steven is at #5 now on the Li Bai list of 18 candidates. 98 points away from the 4th candidate, Chen Kun. Nikki01, you may need to wait 5-10 minutes before re-entering your next vote. Maybe the voting is limited to 10 votes - not sure of # but anyway many Steven fans including myself can't vote anymore. Maybe can vote from another computer, I don't know, haven't tried that myself.
Of the 2 ps Li Bai images sent to Sina, only one is being featured - guess which one. This. Not my preference.
Nikk01, you're right about boosting Steven tvbblog's ranking, will do my part from now on. :alright properly reprimanded.

Hurray! Steven is number 3 now in the Li Bai poll. I managed to cast another 2 or 3 the last two days. Will try further. But the next step on this ladder is too steep....the 2 guys in front are way ahead.
Good to hear that you are going to support Steven's TVB website....

The Li Bai picture used in sina is not my favourite either. I prefer the one with white hat. I also can't seem to vote again. Currently, there is quite a huge difference between rank 2 and rank 3 (Steven ranking 3). But then, he still remains the top-ranking actor from HK in the poll. As for the blog, I have to plead guilty, I only visit when I have the extra time (same to both Tavia's and Steven's). But I will try to visit more.

Steven Ma - netizens' choice as Xu Xian
AF 1347
on.cc news May 8th 2009
"A mainland film production company is planning to shoot a remake of The Legend of White Snake《白娘子傳奇》 , and is right now in the process of casting the main leads. The company set up an online poll and many artistes from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan got onto the short list. After a month of voting, Steven Ma, with 44% of the total votes, is the front runner. Also, the netizens praise his ancient costume appearance for being refined and handsome. When apprised of the situation, Steven was very happy and wondered if he would have the opportunity to portray the character of Xu Xian, 许仙. Anyway, he was elated just knowing he has so many supporters in China."
Nikki01: It will be interesting to see Steven in the role as XuXian in "The Legend of the White Snake". I think he will perform well as he did in other scholarly roles. I am personally not so interested in fairy tale dramas but as long as Steven is in them, will certainly not miss.
Tamaya: Re "Snake" news is just a cheap publicity stunt by its producers; so read and disregard. In fact, the so called polls are taken from baidu 'snake' site. Most Steven fans didn't even know about those polls much less voted for him. Truth be told, his fans are not keen at all on him taking up a remake role, especially one that is such an old hat. But anyway, it's nice to know Steven has so many baidu supporters, although I personally disregard baidu polls because they are mostly 'vote brushing' by a small group of supporters or detractors.
Akazukin: Although I'm happy for Steven that he is the top voted for remaking of White Snake Legend, I don't really hope he would take that role. I have watched the version by Angie Chiu and I find the role of her husband very boring. Maybe Steven can make it interesting but still I'm not so keen on him taking this role. There are more roles out there that need him.[..]Extra note: I love the first pic of him as Li Bai, so handsome.
