Revised: YYP episode 7 summary incomplete

Outside the photography studio
LF: Yong En, you know, this is my first time having my photos taken. I never had my photos taken before when young my mother said I looked like an idiot. So I dare not took photos.

Chuckling, Yong En walks in front of Lai Fu, looks him in the eyes and smilingly says: “Who says? Lai Fu looks good.”

Ah, such sweetness!

LF: Thank you.
Ho, ho.
YE: Let’s go!

Lai Fu takes his bike and pushes it alongside him as he and Yong En stroll leisurely side by side, chatting amiably.

YE: Lai Fu, you are really handsome!
(tn: What is called “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.)

LF: No way.
(chuckling)

And then somewhere the two got separated – Lai Fu continues his way to the restaurant while Yong En stops to check out a big promo ad about her old friend, who apparently has become an actress in some movie. Unaware of the Yong En’s absence, the oblivious Lai Fu continues his stroll talking to the missing Yong En.

LF: Next time whatever you want I’ll buy for you.

Conversely, Yong En stares incomprehensibly at the ad talking to the missing Lai Fu, telling him that the woman on the ad looks like her friend.

Finally, Lai Fu turns his head to see Yong En’s response to his question: “What do you think?”. What a surprise he got for Yong En is no where to be seen. He calls her. Meanwhile, Yong En also turns around to find Lai Fu missing too, and hollers his name, “Lai Fu, Lai Fu!” So begin the frantic search for each other. Lai Fu mistaken a girl for Yong En, and just at that moment he overhears people talking about this one young lady being killed in a car accident. Jumping to conclusion Lai Fu immediately thought of Yong En. He rushes to the scene of the accident where a strange girl lying on the ground dead. Imagine his relief at seeing the dead girl is not his beloved Yong En, so nary another glance, off he goes in search of his beloved, and finally they find each other. Yong En calls out to Lai Fu, and at hearing Yong En’s voice, Lai Fu’s face immediately shines with relief and happiness. He rushes to Yong En and hugs her real tight in his arms, and chides her for her disappearance. “Where did you go? You can’t just take off like that!” (sub-song by Zhang Meng)

Revised: YYP episode 6 summary

And slowly, Lai Fu's fist unfurled to reveal the pendant. Releasing her suppressed emotion, Yong En cries that indeed it is her jade pendant. The relief on Lai Fu's face is instantaneous, as he shouts out and jumps around in unbridled joy . Haha! Actually, happiness is that simple.

LF: Yay, I helped Yong En find it.
YE: Lai Fu, where did you find it?
LF: I found it in the drain besides the jade shop. (hence his stink and dirty appearance)
YE: Thank you, Lai Fu.

As she approaches him, Lai Fun steps back, saying he's stinky and dirty. Yong En says you are not stinky or dirty, moreover, you found the most important thing for me. Then Yong En holds out her little pinky to Lai Fu. Lai Fu is nonplussed by her action, she reaches out to grab his hand and twine their little pinkies together. Their fingers thus twined, Yong En thanks Yong En in a heartfelt, symbolic gesture; first pointing to her heart as Yong En and then to his heart when uttering his name: "I, Yong En, truly thank you, Lai Fu," .

Seeing her thus, Lai Fu laughs sheepishly, and manages to blurt out: "You're welcome." Thus a bond connected these two friends. Quan Bo standing by the door takes it all, not without some trepidation at their rapid bonding.

next scene
Theater - press conference for the rising star - Gao Qian Yun - Yong En's old friend from the old neighborhood. Tang Ting Liang presents her with a huge bouquet of red roses. Turn out he is the investor for her movie, therefore her employer.

Revised: YPP episode 4 summary

Arts store - Mrs. Tang wants to buy some art supplies. She asks Mr. Gao's opinion on her painting on the fan, and of course, he praises her work. Then she asks if he can write a poem onto the fan since she does not do calligraphy herself. Not wanting to risk messing up an important client's fan, Mr. Gao begs off saying that he has hurt his hand, but he will find another who can do it. During their conversation, Yong En and Qian Yun (Mr. Gao's daughter who has now become good friend with Yong En) walk into the store. Overhearing the calligraphy request on the fan, Yong En says she can do it, and that's what she did, and a pretty job too. Both Mr. Gao and Mrs. Tang are very impressed by her work. Impressed by Yong En's exquisite calligraphic talent, Mrs. Tang rewarded her for her work handsomely. Qian Yun introduces Yong En to her father. Mr. Gao offers Yong En a job in his store to help out with the calligraphy work.

Revised: YPP episode 3 summary

Qi Jun is devastated at seeing the fiery scene apparently consuming his beloved Yong En. He rushes towards the fire hoping to save Yong En but is held back by his father, who arrives just in time to save his son from a fiery death. Qi Jun goes to Jin residence to tell the Jin family of Yong En's death. So much emotions. Poor father gives poor Qi Jun a bad beating but the latter welcomes the physical pain to assuage his mental anguish! Haiz! Where did Yong En go to? She goes to find Quan Bo, the old housekeeper who was sacked by her stepmother long ago. A girl (Qian Yun), who will later become her best friend, shows her the way to Quan Bo's restaurant.

Meanwhile, Qi Jun is beset with guilt at 'Yong En's' untimely death. He feels like a murderer. After hearing Yong En's sad tale, the indignant Quan Bo wants to take her back home but she refuses. She begs to stay with Quan Bo.

Mr. Song presses Qi Jun to marry Yi Lan for all the potential benefits their union will bring to their family. Quan Bo let Yong En to stay with him.

Yi Lan looks forward to her engagement party with Qi Jun. Qi Jun meets old childhood friend, Bao Ren, and he introduces the other soldier, Zuo Nan; they are now part of Qi Jun’s father’s army. They were here to bring the engagement gifts to Yi Lan during their engagement party. Yong En gets settle down in Quan Bao’s place.

Yi Lan dresses up for her and Qi Jun’s engagement party. But stubborn and heartbroken Qi Jun refuses to attend the party and leaves home. Qi Jun leaves a letter of apology to Yi Lan. The letter says that with her superior quality she deserves much more than he can give her. Yi Lan announces to her guests that groom has been held up from coming but urges them to stay for the party and treats it like a reunion party. (What a classy lady!) Scorned again for the second by the man she loves. Yi Lan's father, Mr. Sun, does not take kindly to losing face big time in front of an audience. There goes Mr. Shen's hope for monetary support from that wealthy businessman, .

Yi Lan continues to maintain a calm facade before her father, in fact, she finds reasons for Qi Jun's wilful action. Yi Lan goes to a bar to drown her sorrow in liquor. And like the provebial bad penny who else but Ting Xuan turns up in front of her. Seems like he always encounters Yi Lan when she is upset over Qi Jun. Yi Lan is less than pleased to him but he is not deter by her bad mood.

(TN: I love all the one on one scenes of TX vs YL. So very enjoyable. Tang Ling did really well in her performance considering she was still a newbie at the time. )

TX: Hi, Song Da Xiao Jie (Miss Song)

YL: I’m not in the mood tonight, don’t bother me.

TX: It’s so late now. It’s not safe for a lady to drink alone in this kind of bar. Want me to send you home? Come!

YL: What do you want? To revenge? All I did was to repay what you did to me.

TX: You overthink. Come now, let’s go.

YL: I don't plan on leaving. I’ve my drink, you’ve yours. So mind your own business.

TX: What’s the point of drinking that kind of drink ya. Want to try mine? A glass pls. (to the waiter) Dare to try?

TX challenges YL. She picks up the glass, and empties the glass in one gulp, puts down the glass and asks for a refill.

YL: Another glass!

TX: Sure can drink. Cheers! Actually, if not happy, cry it out then. When done crying, treat it as a game. Dream awaken, tomorrow will be fine again.

YL: I won’t cry. I won’t cry at all. Song Yi Lan’s tears are not that cheap.

(She sniffles. )

Seeing her thus, TX wraps his arm around her shoulders to comfort her.

TX: Cry, go ahead and cry. You’ll feel much better. (She sniffs a little, wipes off her tears.) Feel better now?

Yi Lan sighs, looks sidelong at TX, and in a much softer voice says: "I’d like to stay a while but if you’ve things to do, you go ahead and leave."

TX: Unless I can be sure you’ll be all right by yourself, I won’t leave. I don't want to leave you here all by yourself.

Yi Lan is touched by his concern and she smiles sweetly.

YL: I’m all right now. Actually, in everybody’s lifetime, all will encounter the unexpected and pleasant surprises. Just that sometimes the surprises are without the pleasantness, that’s all.

TX: Truly, a woman who has seen the world. Undoubtedly one of a kind. (He looks at Yi Lan with obvious appreciation) For the first time in my life, I, Tang Ting Xuan, am so filled with admiration for a woman I've encountered.

YL turns her head towards TX, looks at him and let out a small, knowing smile. A modern woman, she knows a come-on line when she hears one but still at that very moment it does her hurt pride good to have a man, a good looking one at that, complimenting her. (What a charmer, that Tang Ting Xuan is.)

YL: Given your Tang Da Shao Ye’s (The 1st Tang young master) qualification, the women you’ve encountered, which one of them is not of superior quality?

TX: So would you give me a chance?

Hearing his request, YL’s face instantly fell and a faint sigh escapes unbidden as she says softly: Ai, why it has to be you?

Poor TX. What man likes to hear a woman he is interested in say that? Haha @ Ting Xuan’s expression as he smiles wryly at her response.

A pause. YL looks up and glances slightly at the wall.

Inspired by what she saw, she says: Fine. If you’ll construct an amusement park like that one for me. I don't mind having another alternative. (a framed picture of a carousel hanging on the wall) Seeing TX's bemusement, she triumphantly says:

What? Can’t do it? Well, guess you've just wasted your effort.

She coyly walks away from bar, her mood clearly lightened up by her flirty bantering with TX. However, TX is not one to be sidelined as he comes back with his own riposte.

TX: Not really. Who knows next year this time you’ll see a fully constructed amusement park just for you.

Next scene

Flashback – Over the years, Mr. Jin has neglected Yong En because she looks too much like his runaway wife, Yu Cen (later addressed as Cen Yi (yi=aunt) by her stepsons), whom he still pines after. He flashback to how he lost his wife to Mr. Tang Ji (Ting Xuan & Ting Liang's father), who later made her his 2nd wife and together they have a daughter, Wei Yao. Wrongly accused of having an extra marital affair with Mr. Tang and disillusioned by her husband's infidelity, Yu Cen attempted suicide with her infant daughter but just as she was about to jump into the river they were timely saved from a watery death by Mr. Tang, who btw appeared out of nowhere. Incidentally Mr. Tang and Yu Cen were childhood sweethearts but Yu Cen was forced by her parents to marry Mr. Jin, and Mr. Tang later married his 1st wife for her enormous dowry. Overwhelmed with jealousy at the sight of his wife with her childhood lover, Mr. Jin gave his distraught wife a choice, either go home with him or go with Mr. Tang. Yu Cen refused to go home with him because she couldn’t stand her life with her abusive husband anymore. Mr.Jin wrenched baby Yong En out of Yu Cen’s arms and ran off, leaving behind a devastated Yu Cen wailing in anguish.

Rui Fen calls Mr. Jin, breaking his reverie of the past to the present. She angers him when she reminds him of his cool treatment toward Yong En when she was home. All this time, Mr. Jin has let everybody think that his wife has died during childbirth.

Next scene

Qi Jun's subordinates, Bao Ren and Zuo Nan, found Qi Jun at a restuarant. They tell him of his father's dire political army crisis. Apparently Mr. Shen's arch enemy is trying to usurp Shen's position by riling up his army. Qi Jun sends them to spy on the arch enemy.

Next scene

Walking the street, Ting Liang recalls his father urging Ting Xuan to get married. Lost in thought he accidentally bumps into Yong En’s younger sister, Ai Wen. A sort of relationship is struck. It pays to be both young and pretty.

Next scene

Quan Bo’s restaurant name is "Jin Yu Man Tang"

Yong En wants to help out in the restaurant but Quan Bo forbids her to do so because she might hurt herself - she is forever his young mistress. He gives her a pair of huge round frame glasses as disguise and to 'uglify' her pretty, as if they would.

Next scene

Bonesetter practitioner clinic - Ting Liang accompanies Ai Wen to see the practitioner. Surreptitiously checking out Ai Wen, Ting Liang thinks she may make a suitable wife for him. And of course, Ai Wen is impressed by Ting Liang's rich appearance. Anyway, looks like Ai Wen is hurt quite badly from her fall. And so that's how Ting Liang and Ai Wen's relationship started. Seems like all the couples' relationships have melodramatic beginning.

next scene

Qi Jun and his subordinates sneak into the enemy's house, and knocked down several posted sentries.

They fight their way into a room where he confronts the rival warlord Hu about his conspiracy to kill him at the port/station when he first returned home from overseas. Qi Jun threatens the warlord that he has better watched his own back.

Qi Jun goes home to face the music. His father's wrath has not lessened but he is much mollified when he found out what Qi Jun and his followrs did the last two days he was away from home. How they snuck into warlord Hu's place. His father chuckles with appreciation and says that's my son.

next scene

Yong En insists on helping out in Qian Bo's restaurant. The girl from next door, Qian Yun, (the same one who previously directed Yong En to Quan Bo's restaurant) comes in to place an order with Quan Bo. They later become best friends. Seeing Qian Yun as a way out to get Yong En out of the restaurant Qian Bo insists on Qian Yun taking out Yong En for some sightseeing outside.

Next scene

Tang residence ground - Mrs. Tang is painting something. Ting Liang is standing behind her waiting to talk to her. He once again complaints to his mother about the unfair treatment to the 2nd son vs the first born. His argument is that it should be fair competition between the two sons and not have their lives fated by the order of their birth. His mom says to him that if it is yours as fated it will be yours, if it is not yours, you can't force it. Don't be impatient. No one knows what fate has in store for us. Qin Yi's (2nd wife) unexpected arrival interrupted their conversation. Ting Liang makes his exit. Mrs. Tang coldly rejects Cen Yi's lipstick and perfume gifts. Qin Yi exits. Though Mrs.Tang looks cool outwardly, inwardly she is boiling mad at her husband's unfaithfulness towards her.

*The mother of young actress as Wei Yao said her daughter kissed and hugged their tv when Ting Xuan came on screen. Said Wei Ya is still stuck in the drama cos' she still loves Steven very much so.

Because Tang Ting Xuan's screen time is so little, netizens on baidu YYP began questioning who is the actual male lead in this series. Luckily, Ting Xuan's and Lai Fu's screen time started picking up from then on.

Revised: YYP episode 2 summary

EPISODE 2

The attempted rape scene continues from last episode. Yong En's scream awakens Rui Fen, who apparently sleeps with full make-up on and wig. She is startled by a disheveled Yong En walking into her bedroom. Seconds later, the nephew rushes in too. Ai Wen, awakened by the ruckus walks into the scene. She flashback to her earlier walking into her mother and her cousin's talking and instantly grasps her mother's evil plot. Adding insult to injury, Rui Fen accuses Yong En of immoral behavior with her nephew, feeling wronged, Yong En exits.

Next scene
Yi Lan's birthday party. The upper crust who is somebody attends, including the 1st young master, Tang Ting Xuan (Steven Ma), representing his family. Yay! Finally, he appears. Ting Xuan attends Song Li Lan's birthday bash as part of the upper crust society to show face to Li Lan's father's prominent position in society.The camera pans onto Ting Xuan as he, with hands in his pants' pockets, nonchalantly saunters in, all dressed in white. Ah, such haughtiness! At the door entrance, he pauses and poses for effect as the camera zooms in and out to showcase his appearance. He beelines towards Mr. Song (Yi Lan's father) and pays his respect to him, accordingly. Left on his own, he then unashamedly eavesdrops /overheard Qi Jun and Yi Lan's rather loud argument - Yi Lan is mortified that after her expression of love to Qi Jun, the latter explicity tells her that he sees her only as a younger sister, that's all. Naturally, no woman likes been told that by a man she loves.

Next scene
Ting Xuan receives the bank's phone call about his younger brother's blunder. He leaves the party, accidentally drops his wallet on the ground, and just as he is straightening up from picking up his dropped wallet an incensed and humiliated Yi Lan runs smacks into him. After a brief exchange between them in which Ting Xuan retains his gentlemanly manners to Yi Lan's bratty attitude, the former gets into his car by the curb.

Just as he is about to drive off, Yi Lan, to escape Qi Jun, who rushes out to placate her, rashly hops into Ting Xuan's car and orders him to drive away, which he did, much amused. But when spoilt miss bratty Yi Lan wants him to drive her straight home, he refuses as he is on his way to take care of the bank debacle created earlier by his brother's, Ting Liang, incompetence. So 2 choices for Yi Lan: either go with him to the bank and from there, home, or be dropped off now. She chooses the latter option.

next scene
Shen Residence. Mr. Shen happily announces that Mr. Sun (Yi Lan's father) has pledged to donate money to their militia troop, with the undertanding that Yi Lan and Qi Jun would marry. But of course, Qi Jun disagrees. And then Qi Jun drops a bombshell request on his father, he wants the broken betrothal back on. (haha!) Poor, poor father. Mr. Shen explains to his son that his political position is precarious and he needs funds, lots of it, to support his army. But the modern man that he is, Qi Jun wants a marriage of love, not a marriage of convenience.

next scene :
Yong En leaves home the next morning. Strolling down the street with his personal assistant/ henchman/right hand man, Ting Xuan listens to the good news that his various businesses are doing well, except for the theater business, whose owner still refuses to sell. Ting Xuan says to give the owner 3 days to consider while his business' worth keeps falling. Then as fate would have it, Yi Lan at loose end drives her car down that very street and who should she see but Ting Xuan himself. She wilfully drives the car straight at him but didn't hit him. Recovered from his 'narrow escape' Ting Xuan piles on his gentlemanly charm on Yi Lan. He formally apologizes to Yi Lan for leaving her stranded on the road last time. Yi Lan accepts his apologies and invites him as tour guide and she drives them up a hill. After a look see around the area, she drives away, leaving Ting Xuan stranded on the mountain without a ride back. Tit for tat.

next scene:
Yong En's stepmom sends her no-good nephew away before Mr. Jin comes home.

next scene:
Ting Xuan's father, Tang Ji, and his 2nd wife, Qin Yi, and their young daughter, Wei Ya, disembarked from the train after a long absence from home. Mr. Tang did not inform his family in advance of their arrival. Coincidentally, Mr. Jin (Yong En's father)who is also coming home from his trip happens to see them at the train station. Mr. Jin flashback - Turns out that Qin Yi is his former 1st wife. He accuses Qin Yi of having an affair with Mr. Tang. Tang Liang seeks out his mother (Mr. Tang's 1st wife) to express his grievances of being suppressed by Ting Xuan over the bank management. Mrs. Tang advises him to cooperate with his brother, as family unity is strength. Their talk is interrupted by Mr. Tang and family's unexpected homecoming. Apparently, Mr. Tang seldom came home and even if he did, his visits were all short. Mr. Tang, 2nd wife, and Wei Yao (daughter) received joyous welcome from surprised family members after a 2 year absence. Obviously, Ting Xuan is Wei Yao's favorite big brother.

Then the father sits down to have a talk with his two sons. He says there are two things - firstly, he has come home for good, secondly, he is going to retire and hand over the family business for his two sons to take over. The sons are taken aback by his announced retirement and try in vain to persuade him to stay at the helm, guiding them. Mr. Tang says that he has been away too long from the workplace and his way of doing business is now outdated, anyway, all these the years they (sons) are the ones taking care of business, not him. He has every confidence in their ability to take care of the business. The sons can only listen to him and let him retire.

Then Mr. Tang redirects their conversation to another topic - that of Ting Xuan's marital status - that it is time for him to get married before establishing his career. That Ting Xuan is not young anymore, and asks if he has someone in mind.

Ting Xuan says he has not thought about it. Moreover, he wants to firmly establish his career and does not want to be bothered with other stuff that may distract him from his career aspiration. His father disagrees. That he must have a wife so that he is more grounded, and not rudderless. Ting Xuan, not wanting to argue with his father, acquiesced.

next scene
Jin Residence
Rui Fen is informed of Qi Jun's visit to their home. Jumping to conclusion, she thought that Qi Jun has his eyes on Ai Wei but much to her later consternation, Qi Jun requests reinstatement of his betrothal to Yong En. To stall time and keep Qi Jun in the house so that Ai Wei can cosy up to him, Rui Fen pretends to fetch Yong En for him.

Meanwhile, Yong En goes to Qi Jun's residence to look for him. But of course, she does not know he is right now in her house looking for her. Yong En insists on waiting until he comes home no matter what.

Ai Wen tries to chat up Qi Jun and get him to notice her but in vain cos' his heart is on seeing Yong En. Finally after a long wait, Qi Jun decides to leave, and just so happens, Mr. Jin comes home but he is not in the mood to listen to Qi Jun's request to reinstate the betrothal. Turn out that Mr. Jin's trip was to arrange a marriage for Yong En from among his royalty relatives but all refused to see him because of his despondent situation. Rui Fen tells him that Yong En has run away from home, without going into the details of the attempted rape, instead putting the blame on the broken betrothal.

next scene
Finally Qi Jun comes home. He is ecstatic to find Yong En waiting for him there but she only feels her humiliation engulfing at recallig his breaking off their engagement. Without saying a word. Yong En walks towards him and slaps his face real hard. She knocks the cup and saucer on the tabble over onto the floor, shattering them to pieces. Then enunciating each word, she says in a controlled voice that she came here to tell him that she is the one breaking off the engagement because she doesn't want to marry him. Hereafter, their relationship will be like the broken cup on the floor - no connection whatsoever. (What a spunky girl. I like her! Qi Jun is supposed to look stunned, but the actor's face is just so bland and impassive throughout the series.) After her speech, Yong En picks up her luggage and walks off with as much dignity as she could muster. And then Qi Jun becomes all emotional and runs after her but loses sight of her in the busy streets. And then an accident happens that changes their lives forever. Fate plays a joke on Qi Jun - unbeknownst to him there was another girl who dressed exactly like Yong En, and it is her who got killed in a freak accident.

Qi Jun sees an out of control car swerving to avoid a kid on the road hit Yong En's double into an alley, and as fate has it, set off the boxes of explosive kept there, and instantly set off a fiery explosion.

Tang Ting Xuan makes a late entrance as he struts nonchalantly across the room.

Episode 1 focuses on Shen Qi Jun (Eric Huang), Jin Yong En (Zhang Meng), and Song Yi Lan (Tang Ling). Yong En's younger sister (Ai Wei), and her stepmother (Rui Fen) also made their appearances. Qi Jun is the son of a powerful warlord. Yong En is a descendant of a Qing royal family who has now fallen on hard times. Yi Lan's father is a wealthy and prominent business man. Yong En thinks her mother is dead but actually she is alive and kicking as Ting Xuan's stepmother, his father's 2nd wife.

Qi Jun and Yi Lan arrived at the port from overseas studies. At the port, while waiting to get picked up by respective families, Qi Jun realizes he has been pick-pocketed so he pursues the thief, leaving behind Yi Lan. Then another man tries to kill him. They fight, and fight some more. Ah, Qi Jun, the brave hero in white showing off his martial arts prowess. And our heroine, Yong En, who happens to be at the right time at the right place and having the right mindset saves Qi Jun just in time from being seriously knifed, and for her trouble she almost got hurt but fear not, Qi Jun saves her. So with that melodramatic chance encounter, these two meet each for the first time. Qi Jun instantly falls in love at first sight with brave little Yong En, not knowing that she is his betrothed fiancée, while Yong En is taken with good looks and heroism.

Next scene - Qi Jun wants to break off his pre-arranged marriage and says so to his father. Yong En wants to get marry just so she can leave her unhappy home because of her abusive stepmom. And at their 2nd chance encounter, imagine Yong En's happiness when she finds out that the hero is actually her betrothed finance, Shen Qi Jun. That night she looks at her mother's mandarin duck jade pendent (鸳鸯佩), her heart filled with happiness as to the identity of her fiance.

Next day, Qi Jun and his father are at Yong En's house to officially break off his betrothal with Yong En. Yong En eavesdrops, and much to her dismay finds out that Qi Jun has come instead to break off their betrothal, not to honor it as she has hoped. Of course, she does not know that Qi Jun is still unwise to her identity as his fiancee. Imagine Qi Jun's shock when he belatedly finds out that his now ex-fiancee is actually Yong En, the girl he fell in love at first sight. Ah, the shock! The irony! The humiliation! The regrets! The capricious fates!

Next scene
The 2nd young master of the Tang's family, Tang Ting Liang, makes his entrance. Scene cuts to Mistress Rui Fen comforting Yong En's father, Mr. Jin, who is distraught over the broken betrothal. Mr. Jin chides Rui Fen for thinking Yong En as a bad luck child, who caused her mother's death. Scene cuts back to the Tang Bank. Tang Ting Liang arrogantly and stupidly offends a bank customer, who though always defaulted on his debt to the bank is nonetheless a powerful man the bank can't afford to offend just yet. When the customer leaves in a huff, Ting Liang announces the early closing of the bank for the day.

Yong En's father going off to somewhere leaving Rui Fen in charge of the household. Yong En's stepmom, Rui Fen, takes the opportunity to lament her awkward 2nd wife status to him, wanting him to marry her legally. But he ignores her request and quickly escape into the waiting car. As she walks back into the house, she encounters her nephew in the courtyard. Turns out that he has just stolen her jade bangle from her bedroom. He begs her to save him from having his fingers cut off from failing to pay up his gambling debt. Seeing his dire predicament, an evil idea came into her thought. She tells her thieving nephew with a gambling addiction to rape Yong En so that after the fact he can marry her, and elevate his status. Ai Wen sees those two deep in discussion. Ai Wen and Rui Fen set their sight on Qi Jun.

Next scene
A commotion in from of Tang Bank. Tang Ting Xuan makes his entrance. He yells at Tang Ting Liang for the outside situation caused by the earlier bank closing. Ting Xuan also reprimands Ting Liang for his botched handling of Boss Wang. He explains why the bank can't offend Boss Wang because of the latter's good connection (guanxi) with powerful people.

That night the nephew molests Yong En.

Yuan Yang Pei epi 18 vid clip

I'm truly impressed with Zhang Meng's brilliant performance in this clip - Yong En's refined breeding and quiet dignity, her pleading eyes, her restrained frustration, her silent despair, her heightened emotion, her 情不自禁 uncontrollable desire to hold him tight and be held by him, and her controlled rage. Bravo!

Notice: Yuan Yang Pei's satellite broadcast

eta: Starting August 21 2015 (Friday) Yuan Yang Pei will be airing concurrently on two mainland satellite tv stations nationwide with 2 episodes nightly at 19:35 & 20:27

1) Guangxi Satellite TV Station (广西卫视)
2) Jiangxi Satellite TV Station (江西衛視)

Finally, Yuan Yang Pei (鸳鸯佩) is confirmed to air on a satellite tv station in mainland, in this case, Guangxi satellite tv station (广西卫视) on 8/21 at 7:30 pm, 2 episodes daily. Since its first tv broadcast two years ago, the series has only been aired on local tv stations. Unlike local stations with its limited audience, satellite tv stations have a nationwide network. Edited: Though Guanxi Stellite TV Station is not among the China's top 10 most popular tv stations, I'm nevertheless very grateful for the opportunity given YYP to finally "上星" (satellite). Here's to high ratings for YYP and critical acclaim for Steven's great acting! source.

Yuan Yang Pei mvs

Yuan Yang Pei 《鸳鸯佩》each time under a different name is now currently airing on yet another mainland local tv channel (齐鲁) as《情缘情仇》. The series first premiered as 《缘定终生》 on Hunan local tv channel and just a few months ago was aired with its original title《鸳鸯佩》on another different mainland local tv . I'm perplexed as to why its title is different when aired on different mainland local tv stations. Moreover, its dvd has different name from the other 3 too. So confusing and misleading. Apparently, the different titles have something to do with the copyright broadcast? No sure but having a different title from its original title seems to a be the norm with mainland tv stations.

Bumped up feature: Shanghai TV Festival interviews insights in Steven's character

In the interview, WQQ and Steven elaborated on how essential it is to immediately establish a rapport among troupe colleagues (often strangers collaborating for the 1st time) for the good of the series and their own performances. Unlike TVB, whereby even if Steven had not collaborated with some new cast members in the past at least he knows them and moreover they all live in Hong Kong unlike the cast of his mainland series, who came from all parts of China and from Taiwan.

Spontaneity

The scene rehearsal: WQQ, brokenhearted, decides to leave the family she has served and loved for so long and Steven runs after her to persuade her not leave. Steven pleads with her saying his scripted line in the beginning but finishes it with his own improvised line:

"But before you go you should at least give me your QQ number ba?. "(China cyber chat line)

Without missing beat, WQQ tearfully said: "I've already left it under your pillow."

summary
Qi Jun (Eric Huang) returns home from overseas and imbued with modern ideals wishes to break off his pre-arranged betrothal with Yong En (Zhang Meng), whom he has never met. Enroute he coincidentally meets Yong En and falls in love with her at first sight. Because Yong En is abused by stepmother who arranged to have Yong En raped by a relative, Yong En runs away from home and flees to her former family housekeeper, Zhou Quan (Quan Bo), who owns a restaurant. There she befriended Lai Fu, who is later employed as an employee there. They fall in love despite Quan Bo's objections because Yong En is from a prominent family background, after all, and Lai Fu is but a son of a poor widow selling soya sauce. In a scheme to inherit the wealth and property, Tang Ting Liang's, Tang Ting Xuan's (Steven Ma) younger brother plots to kill him not once but twice, and each time failed to do so. For the first attempt, Ting Liang had a gang of thugs attacked Ting Xuan. After giving Ting Xuan a severe beating they threw him into the river but lucky for Ting Xuan a fishing boat passed by, and the fisherfolks saved his life. Ting Xuan goes into hiding in the fishing village for 3 months. Meanwhile, during his absence, Lai Fu came into town, and later he and Yong En fell for each other. On his wedding day, Ting Liang killed Lai Fu mistaking him for Ting Xuan.

Yong En looks for her missing bridegroom. She does not know that Lai Fu is dead and mistakens Ting Xuan for Lai Fu. However, Ting Xuan treats her coldly. Yong En gets into Tang Residence as a tutor to Ting Xuan's kid sister to investigate. By and by, unwittingly, Ting Xuan falls in love with Yong En. When Yong En realizes that Ting Xuan is not Lai Fu she leaves the Tang residence. All the while, Qi Jun protects her in every way he cans. Ting Liang exposes that Ting Xuan is actually not Tang Qi's biological son so Ting Liang gets kicked out from the Tang family. Still seeing Ting Xuan as a big threat to him, Ting Liang hired another group of thugs to kill Ting Xuan, and in their attempt, Ting Xuan's real mom got killed while protecting Ting Xuan. Ting Xuan so filled with hatred seeks vengeance. He marries Song Yi Lan (Tang Ling - she loves Qi Jun) hoping to use the Song family's wealth and power to get back into top society so that he can take over Tang family's wealth and property.

Ting Xuan succeeded in taking over Tang's wealth through devious means, and summarily becomes the sole owner but he gets no pleasure from it. He kidnaps his kid sister to in an attempt to get Yong En to see him, and to force her to break up with Qi Jun. He gives an impassioned plea to Yong En to love him but she spurns his love and viciously berated him for what he did to the Tangs. Somehow, Qi Jun finds out where they are and breaks inside the house to rescue Yong En. So incensed, Ting Xuan fires at Qi Jun but Yong En blocks the bullet with her body and is shot instead.

Ting Xuan so shaken with almost killing Yong En suddenly, improbably, inexplicable turns into a new leaf. He meets up with Yi Lan and gives her the deeds and what not to her, keeping nothing for himself. He then walks out into the rain, repenting his wrong. Meanwhile, Yong En recovered, and pretty soon she and Qi Jun got married. --The End--.

UPDATED: Yuan Yang Pei - Scriptwriter brownie

baidu 欢欢2006  Reading everybody's reponse, as one of the scriptwriters, I almost cried. I believe that 4th Brother also because of these comments was most moved! My most pure-minded and most filled with love character -- Tang Ting Xuan! Thank you everybody for your love! 4th Brother did well!

王欢Brownie weibo Reading the online discussions and analysis on Tang Ting Xuan -this character, I knew we've won! If say, our creation had to get past certain constraints, then we must undoubtedly do our very best to fight for the result! True! 'Heart pain'* - this phrase constantly being evoked is a reflection of a tragic character's fate, and through this reflection we can see how many people of emotions and sentiments there are in this world. Your heart, was it pained?

Scriptwriter, Brownie, said on weibo: there was an even more tears-inducive ending but...you all understand. (tn: why it wasn't picked.)

Fan asked to read the alternate ending but Brownie said she wouldn't dare reveal such a sensitive topic. (tn: hmm! interesting - wonder what secrets?)

Brownie: I feel terrible suppressing stuff I can't speak of ! Anyway, this ending is the best of the lot, (tn: given the alternate) fans would probably hunt us down and kill us. 6 words: 「No heaven's justice」 + 「not enough time」「没天理」+「来不及」

Brownie's reply to a fan when the latter thanked her for writing such a human character.   Actually 4th Brother's personal opinions and suggestions plus his nuanced acting brought life to Ting Xuan. But he truly wished that Lai Fu did not have to die! Haha! Also want to thank 4th Brother for sticking to his gun and for his support during the script writing adjustment phase. He is truly a superior actor, and he truly loves his work and his character roles.

Wah! Such high praises from Director Wong Ka Fai to Steven:
