新劇擺炮灰檔 陳總冇符 馬浚偉炮轟無綫
The crux of the matter is that all his series are being aired in the cannon fodder timeslots (tn: timeslot link) beginning with A Watchdog’s Tale aired January early this year followed by Ghost Writer pitting against World Cup. And now Links to Temptation is aired right after anniversary, undoubtedly not destined for awards given its long lapse from the next anniversary. What’s worse, his other new series, 7 Days in Life will air immediately following ‘Links’ right before the Chinese New Year festival starts. So provoked, no wonder he bombarded TVB on his weibo. Allegedly, Mr. Stephen Chan tried hard to divert the course of tide but regrettably without success. During his interview with Weekly, Steven sighed and said: “Feel very helpless!”
Recently, Steven's weibo lament about “the more he yields, the more he’s being bullied; the more he endures, the more unreasonable his paybacks were!” evinces his fury over the fact that starting this year all the way to the next, his four series have been or will be aired in cannon fodder timeslots. Steven’s fans all left messages to support their idol, lambasting TVB of wanting Steven to choke on a gigiantic pig’s skull.
Stephen Chan's Intercession Thwarted
A tvb insider said: “None of Ma Zai’s series is aired in favorable timeslot, yet A Watchdog's Tale garnered an average rating of at least 31 points, and is fifth in this year’s rating ranking. Ghost Writer is used to battle World Cup, yet it has a peak rating of 41 points. Steven is rating guarantee, so Advertising Department likes to use him to sell advertisements for the cannon fodder timeslots. Zhan Jie (Catherine Tsang, Director of Production Resources Department) is fond of Steven, and she had wanted to help his series, 'Links' and '7 Days' fight for favorable timeslots, but the Advertising Department turned on the pressure. Moreover, Ms. Lok has never looked favorably on Steven, and she insisted on his series be aired as scheduled in such timeslots. Furthermore, Stephen Chan had not been reinstated then so nobody stepped forward to help out so there's nothing Zhan Jie could do about it."
Stephen Chan has always watched out for Steven's interests.* Allegedly, when he was reinstated he had pressured the Advertising Department to postpone '7 Days' airing to a much later date. But unluckily the Advertising Department has already signed the contracts with the advertising sponsors thus thwarting Stephen's intercession for postponement; hence,'7 Days' will air as scheduled on Jan 24th next year. Fortunately, Stephen Chan has already pre-arranged for Steven to lead in next year's two grand productions, Thunder in the Forbidden City**, and Back to the Three Kingdoms*** , so it was not a total loss.
Toiling assiduously at making series but yet never getting favorable timeslot in return, reportedly, with his contract terminating soon in a few years’ time, Steven harbors the thought of parting ways with TVB. The crux of the matter is that the series Steven leads in often generated ideal ratings and overseas market sales, such as the now airing Ghost Writer in mainland China, which, incidentally, has greatly inflated Steven’s popularity over there. Recently, numerous mainland China artistes management companies have beckoned Steven to sign up with them. Furthermore, there are mainland series seeking his participation, so he does not have to worry about finding an alternate outlet.
Ma Zai: Can Only Resort To Self-Consoling.
Regarding his bombardment of TVB on his weibo, Steven’s response is barbed: “I’m only venting out my own feelings; there’s no specific target." (All your series are aired in cannon fodder timeslots, even the fans felt it is very unfair to you wo!) I also feel very helpless. I can only console myself that the company sees me as a rating general, and that it is because of its confidence in me that such arrangements happened. The company likes to use me to fight battles, earlier on it was Ghost Writer, prior to that it was 'Where the legend begins’, whereby both were used to pit against World Cup. Fortunately, World Cup happens only once every four years.”
Touching on the topic of Stephen Chan’s earlier failed attempt to persuade the Advertising Department to postpone ‘7 Days'’ timeslot to a much later date, Steven circumvents it with this response: “This should have nothing to do with Mr. Chan. (But Mr. Chan is fond of you. Arranged for you to lead in two grand productions next year.) I’m very grateful to Mr. Chan, not only in the series aspect, but also in this year’s cooking program. When I expressed an interest in such a program, Mr. Chan arranged for me to host Apprentice Chef . (TN: per his contract negotiation) I also want to thank Zhan Jie. Zhan Jie is my benefactress. Without her, there is no me. All these years she has given me lots of opportunities.”
When asked if he has thoughts of leaving, he reveals his intention through his words: “Hopefully, the parting of ways is not of my own initiation. I’ve been with TVB for 18 years, and have developed a relationship with the company. But I do hope next year will bring forth a different development, so it is hard to predict what will happen in the future!”
Work until sick
Because series with Steven as lead always did well in overseas markets, he is shooting one series after another. Recently, because of his hectic shooting of “Thunder” he finally fell sick. In his weibo, he expresses that he has Tracheitis infection, therefore, between scenes, he would be in the cafeteria resting at the same time studying the script.
Actually, my personal bottom line is very low, truly very low. I can readily endure and forgive. I’m willing to do that. Maybe because I started work early so I have long learned to take a step back as compromise. But the more I yield, the more I am being bullied; the more I endure, the more unreasonble the paybacks are. Enough! I am not furious, but neither am I stupid! Understand, I understand very well indeed! But, is it too much to even give me a modicum of fairness? Haha! Don’t worry, I will continue doing my part well. An Enraged Roar in Weibo
Steven bombards TVB on weibo. I believe he had held it in for a long time, so now gotta get it off his chest.
Next year, TVB has arranged for Steven to portray Guan Gong in a grand production, Back to the Three Kingdoms. Steven's role has much room for flexing his acting muscles, so at least all is not lost.
"Thunder" has quite a lot of action scenes. Earlier on, Steven's rib was fractured in an injury; such hard work.
New Series Becomes Cannon Fodders
Fans and Evergreen Mak Show Support
Steven's new series, 7 Days in Life, will air on January 24 2011, just prior to the Chinese New Year festival, besides Steven being dissatisfied with its timeslot, his fans, who called him 4th Brother, also lambasted TVB on weibo. Even his co-star in 'Thunder', Evergreen Mak, felt it was unfair to Steven, and left words to support him.
Steven and Fala’s new series, Links to Temptation, airs right after anniversary, with a one year’s lapse from next year anniversary, it goes without saying it is not fated to win any awards. Nevertheless, they still both put in their best efforts to promote their new series.
In '7 Days', Steven personally did the dangerous stunts himself. It could be said he imperiled his life for it, but too bad, the series will be aired in a cannon fodder timeslot, so no wonder he was provoked to lambast TVB.

* Not true, Stephen Chan has not always watched over Steven. All he did was persuade Steven to sign the contract in August 2009 , as Luck would have it, he was soon charged with corruption before he could truly promote Steven's interests. Truly Steven has been played mercilessly by capricious LUCK by giving him a whiff of luck and then gleefully took it away before he could sink his teeth into it.

I wouldn't put too much stock in this article's credibility, considering the reporter actually dubbed "Thunder in the Forbidden City" as a grand production. To me, the report smacks too much of euphemism, simplifying the truth, whatever it maybe, to paint a pretty picture outside. Steven so beloved by advertising sponsors as rating guarantee general that he gets stuck repeatedly holding up the rating fort in the cannon fodder timeslots year in and year out??? Give me a break...!!!! I bet Steven would not hesitate to instantly trade his rating general title for a tv king title anytime. So does that means Steven will never be allowed to become TV king because if he were, then his series would have to be aired in more favorable time slots as of course as tv king he would finally be allowed to participate in anniversary series and grander productions, right? Now that may indeed pose a dilemma if not a crisis to the TVB AD Dept, because without Steven series whose series can do the job of holding up the rating fort in the abysmal cannon fodder timeslots? (sarcasm) And of course, Ms. Lok would be more than happy to keep Steven series shackled to the worst timeslot, regardless of whatever reasons. As to Mr. Chan and Tsang genuinely supporting Steven, call me cynical, but I will hold on to my reservations as to their sincerity.

陳志雲一向照顧馬仔，原來他復職後，曾向廣告部施壓，希望《隔離七日情》可以延遲播出。可惜廣告部早已簽了贊助商，始終拆唔掂，只好如期在明年1月24日出街。幸好陳總早前安排他擔正來年兩部重頭劇《紫禁驚雷》和《回到三國》，未至於輸晒。
辛苦拍劇攞不到好檔期，據悉尚有年多便約滿無綫的馬仔已萌去意，事關馬仔擔正的無綫劇一向收視和賣埠理想，現正在內地熱播的《蒲松齡》更令馬仔人氣急升，近期便有幾家內地經理人公司向他招手，又有大陸劇斟他演出，根本不愁出路。

談到陳志雲曾努力游說廣告部，希望《隔離七日情》延遲出街，但不成功。馬仔迴避說：「應該唔關陳生事。（但陳生好錫你，明年有兩部重點古裝劇俾你擔正。）我好多謝陳生，其實唔止戲劇方面，今年我話想做飲食節目，陳生就俾我主持《大廚出馬》。我仲要多謝珍姐，珍姐係我恩師，冇佢冇我，咁多年來俾好多機會我。」問到他是否已萌去意，他即露口風：「希望唔會係我主動想離開，我喺無綫18年，對公司好有感情，但我都希望明年有不同發展，所以將來嘅事好難講！」
