Browsing 2010-03-04 steven-ma.org , I encounter old post of mine written in English and Chinese that I had long forgotten which I repost now here.   Reminiscing Chi Yat Bo.

In a split second, a phone call changed the lives of 3 persons; it wasn't fate it was Yat Bo who made that call. (pun intended)  Yat Bo can be consoled by the fact that fate didn't play them, but that he took fate into his own hands to at least stop Twinkle's torments, if not give her happiness.  At my first viewing of the ending, that long shot of  the huddled Yat Bo broke my heart.  I saw him as a tragic figure, and cried buckets.  But now I see the ending shot differently.  I now notice his little smiles and body language, ever so slightly in variance yet so big in meaning -- there're the sad, the indulgent, acceptance, the helpless smiles and there's the serene smiles all beautifully displayed within just a span of seconds.  Yat Bo's huddled back doesn't look so pitiful anymore although still lonesome and forlorn, but there is that little bit of courage and optimism in that things will get better because Yat Bo made it so as he bravely took matter into his own hands, that  whether his decision is right or wrong he is master of his own destiny.  And that the sun will rise after an endless night like it does now, and that he, Yat Bo, alone will decide whether it will a good day or bad. \?oT.z5VG&

Since Steven fans lamented they couldn't understand English and reviews are written to be shared with readers, I summarily rewrote the essays in elementary Chinese.

Pearl River Satellite TV Channel  is the leader in the China satellite tv market for this year with its incredible 22% market share, running way ahead of its rivals. Good news is that it will air Cupid Stupid next year along with these HK series: GMG, BF2, Beauty Knows no Pain.  Go Stevia, go penetrate the China market and burrow deep into the its tv viewers' hearts.  I must say Pearl tv channel has pretty good taste in its hk tv series selection, although I would have picked SITS over CP, but Stevia's chemistry is undeniable...good luck to Stevia.

There's this quip that Steven Ma + Tavia Yeung's collaborated series = overseas release. Please someone tell me what are the criteria for being released overseas? 

The series is supposedly about horoscopes, but besides its title, horoscopes are barely touched in the series. It is just a pretext for another cliche 1 female two men love entanglement. It revolves around Twinkle's choice.

Yat Bo is always there for Twinkle. Goon Sing takes Twinkle onto the right path to her aspiration. Her choice will almost certainly decide the direction of her future lifestyle - stability & happiness, or excitement and aspiration But then again, love is not equivalent to the whole of life because life's choices need to be rationale whereas love is totally an emotional thing. Even though Twinkle is beset with confusion and indecision, but surely deep down in her heart she knows whom she truly love? Actually, right from the start she has already known bah? All these so-called fate and predestined, horoscopes compatibility, none of them can't hold up against the true feelings of one's heart.

That's why we all assumed that Twinkle who has liked Yat Bo from the outset but missed out, that her final choice could only be Chee Yat Bo ---- because this time she would not be distracted by extraneous stuff again. She will surely follow her heart, so that this time around she will not missed out again.

But at the end, the scriptwriter played a joke on us, she actually chooses Goon Sing?! Her choice came out of nowhere, without rhyme nor reason to it. Truly incomprehensible!

If the scriptwriter did this just to come up with an unexpected twist for its ending then it has obviously failed and backfired. An unexpected twist and turn of events may and can lure viewers, but this incomprehensible choice would only provoke viewers' condemnation. What should flow logically became inexplicable. Scriptwriter wanted to play the unpredictability card but in the process cheated everybody. Faced with such an ending, I suddenly realized that the choice to release this series overseas was right.

Akazukin:  The only thing I would disagree with the article is that Twinkle didn't choose Goon Sing, the scriptwriter chose it for her. I think the greatest failure of this series is to write Twinkle's indecisiveness towards love, and the choice being not that hard to start with.

During shooting, Mazai was constantly surrounded by tourists from Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and China requesting to have their photos taken with him and for signing of autographs. The moms also constantly arranged to have their BB pictures taken with Mazai as remembrance. Some moms even had Ma zai carried their bb in his arms for snapshots. Ma zai joked: "I was surprised to see that every bb laugh when he/she saw me."

After Land Of Wealth and Sweetness In The Salt, Tavia Yeung and Steven Ma collaborated again in new series. They filmed a modern love story which talks about zodiac, The Stars Of Love. Steven's role is a steady Capricorn while Tavia's role is a perfectionist Virgo. Unexpectedly, in real life, Tavia Yeung's zodiac is virgo and Capricorn is a zodiac which will affect Steven Ma's attitude after 30 years old. No matter in series or in real life, their zodiac matches each other and no wonder they can collaborate so many times.

Summary of The Stars Of Love
Gan Ngou Lam (Tavia Yeung), who was interested in zodiac, gained a direction of her life from a zodiac game. It turned out that she will meet the most important person in her life. She knew a friend from the zodiac game who was the designer of the zodiac game, Tsim Shing Hou (Michael Tse). At the same time, she had a friend that she knew since childhood and worked as a fishmonger in the market, Chi Yat Bou (Steven Ma). Three of them became good friends soon after.

Ngou Lam fell in love with kind-hearted, Yat Bou. This series is 3rd collaboration series of Tavia Yeung and Steven Ma. With matching zodiac and full understandability, Tavia said, "Before this, we collaborated in ancient series. This time we tried out on a modern series and the feeling was a bit more relaxing. I don't know why but before this, both of our collaboration in ancient series could not have a happy ending and it was regretful. Hope that this time we can have a happy ending in this modern series."

You'll compromise in order to stay together.

Steven Ma gains weight from being Injured

 01 February 2009  During CNY, Steven did a shot whereby he had to jump into the water to pick oysters. The water was so frigid that his whole body became numb. He did not even know that he had cut his foot on an oyster shell until he came out of the water and saw his foot bleeding. Only then did he feel pain. The cut was quite deep, too.

During the CNY hols, Steven stayed home and invited some friends to play 打四方城 (?)(does it mean majong') and won quite a bundle of money. (fatt choi) Steven joked his sudden wealth (fatt choy) must be because earlier when cut his foot he saw 'red' (blood) - a good omen to the start of a new year.


Steven Ma gains weight from being Injured
During the Lunar New Year, Steven Ma did not go out for New Year Greetings, he only invited his close friends and relatives to play Mahjong, couldn't believe that just won big bucks against the other 3 players, what great income, he was very happy about this. He said: "How is the New Year so lucky, it must be because I injured myself earlier during filming, a good start!" Turns out that last year Steven was constantly busy filming in the street markets for new series "The Stars of Love". In one of the scenes, it spoke of Steven in the fish stand working and suddenly thought of Tavia Yeung and him.
