Steven Ma laughs off rumors of TVB new boss Cheung Kwok Keung's love rival

Sunday January 30, 2011 Hong Kong

Reposted from: asianfanatics.net

Yesterday Steven Ma attended TVB series 7 Days In Life promotion in Tsuen Wan Plaza, but lead actress Sonjia Kwok was absent. The series received high TV ratings, peaking at 36 points and average at 28 points. The cast including Steven, Patrick Tang, Joyce Cheng, Koni Lui and Oceane Zhu expressed their excitement. When Steven learned that some people praised his mystical thief character won a breakthrough, he was extremely happy. However, tomorrow because Lunar New Year is near there will be a lot of viewers leaving HK for the holidays and the ratings will definitely be affected. Steven hopes that viewers can continue to watch the series online.

When speaking of the hot topic of TVB's new boss, Steven has always read the papers, he believes that 6th Uncle (Sir Run Run) and Mona Fong will remain in office, the administrative operations will go as normal. He said: "I hope the new boss can get more resources to shoot series and produce series with more variety of topics. He also hopes the behind-the-scenes staff can get a raise too." It was said, Sonjia, the new boss Chan Kwok Keung and Steven have had rumors before, asked if there will be any impact in future collaborations? Steven calmly said: "They said I'm Mr. Chan's love opponent? That is truly funny! Sonjia and I had rumors in 2001, the issue was 10 years ago, we are now good friends. She also told me to apologize on her behalf that she wasn't able to make it today because she's working in Mainland. (Worried about future job opportunities?) Don't be silly! Shouldn't take rumors too seriously, just for laughs. I will do my part as an artist. Work is work, personal matters is personal. Sonjia had once said that some reporters are blowing things out of proportion, not necessary to care so much!"

7 Days: 2nd promotion

Good news 7Days' ratings peaked at 36 points, bad news, its average rating garnered only 28 points. Very disappointing indeed!  59 pictures uploaded on steven-ma.org

Steven always seemed to enjoy himself very much during promotions.

7 Days: Calvin and Christy

So far at episode I love this couple. Lots of chemistry and I can feel the imminent heartbreak and angst. Sonija loves very womanly and beautiful and of course Steven is utterly charming. A very glamorous couple.

Steven left in his weibo that beginning episode 5, Calvin is starting to change, and become heartless and indifferent. I disagree, imo, Calvin has not changed from who he was before. He is the same flippant and flirtatious and non-committal Calvin from before, it is Christy who has changed. Calvin has made it absolutely clear from the start to Christy that their relationship is purely a partnership, anything beyond that he cannot give especially a long term commitment and a vow to everlasting love. Their partnership works well as long as Christy keeps her heart in check and not look for anything more than Calvin can give her. Calvin is not heartless if he was he would not have staged his death in the exploding yacht to cut her free. Just that his love for her Christy is not even to overcome his aversion to long term commitment. But Christy knows the score when she took on Calvin. It is her choice to stay with him under his terms.

And what's with her inclination to taking her own life when her love life turns sour?

But I am so disappointed with their supposedly intense kissing scene. It was just a blip on the screen and it was over. Felt so cheated by all the publicity of it.

Nevertheless, I love the whole black and white flashback and the group song. All very well done, almost like a scene from a movie.

^To amend my above post: I should say Christy's needs and desires and thoughts, in short her innate character, did not change much, just that for the past few years she had suppressed that part of her to conform to Calvin's terms because of her love for him and the desire to stay with him. But now her character is re-surfacing and re-exerting itself which naturally upset her relationship with Calvin. Naturally, Calvin being the same Calvin of the past and present and future, will likewise once again distant himself from a demanding Christy who desires something more out of their present relationship. They had a verbal pact, unequivocally understood by both parties of how their relationship should be, which now Christy broke with her demands of him. The past years Christy may have developed a worldly and sophisticated exterior but inside still resides that vulnerable self of yesteryears. But I think she is now way past the phase of committing suicide whenever love doesn't work out.

7 Days: NG scenes

Must say of all the ng scenes posted on all Steven series uploaded on tvb.com, there are very few of him flubbing his lines. Of his female co-stars whose videos I have seen, Linda Chung has the most ng vids, esp. in AWT.  Just seeing her ng video clips emphasized just how tedious acting can be and how patient and tolerant Steven was with her.  In general, the constant flubbing of lines can adversely affect the smoothness of the shoot and the outcome of the finished scenes.   Just imagine a tennis game between two players of different ability and the picture should be clear.

Even in the one below, Steven said his long speech without missing a beat.  He's so smooth at delivering his lines.

2011/01/28  Steven Ma hopes that the new boss will raise the salary for those behind the scenes employees. Steven Ma appeared at a New Territory village to promote the February 14th Wishing Tree event.  He expresses that a few years ago when he was shooting A Watchdog’s Tale, he came to the village to do some research and chatted with the village school headmaster, therefore, he is very familiar with this area. When asked what he was going to perform on February 14th, the grannies at the scene all hollered, “Dai Ngui Fah”.  Steven laughs and says that he will sing songs that are to the “older sisters’” taste.

Steven wrote on his weibo that beginning epi 5 Calvin will change, become indifferent and bad. When readers asked how bad, Steven says "Let's say the adjective, 'despicable' is quite an apt to describe his actions.

7 Days: thai song

When Steven unexpectedly bursts into a sad, love (Thai) song, I instantly burst out laughing. haha! And add that to his put-on woebegone facial expression to purposely elicit sympathy from Long legged crab Koni. And when he stops singing, a female singer picks up the song. Haha.........

I'm loving the black humor in the series.

7 Days - episode by episode review 1-4

episode 4:
lol! Right now watching epi 4 but gotta pause the video to post this because its black humor just cracked me up:

When Steven unexpectedly bursts into a sad, love (Thai) song, I instantly burst out laughing. haha! And add that to his put-on woebegone facial expression to purposely elicit sympathy from Long legged crab Koni. And when he stops singing, a female singer picks up the song. Haha.........

I'm loving the black humor in the series.

And Koni describing the Thai tycoon, Calvin, as long-legged crab. ...Judy: such a sad story, I thought would only happen in a movie...lol!..So a word of the wise to all those beautiful women who wish to hook a golden tortoise that you are not been played by a good looking golden carp instead. Unpause video..continue to watch video ..gotta see how con man, Calvin, charms his female target with his lame, sad story that only a gullible female will fall for, or pretend to fall for his pickup line because she thought she got lucky to be singled out by a rich and handsome tycoon.

Dialogs:
...only I know of this secret?
....it's a secret just between you and me
......I'll keep this secret confidential
lol!

later:
.....This show makes me want to puke! So swear a man who himself is an expert of melodramas
...I miss my late gf so much, I want to hold a memorial here on the roof patio, everybody's welcome, Would you set it up for me? lol!
.....Ho Yan, (blowing kiss) thank you! (puke! haha!)
.... and that coy interplay between between clueless, played Judy (Ho Yan) and 'sad' player, Calvin, is so 'nauseatingly' spoof-ish black humor stuff. lol! Definitely enjoyed Steven & Koni's scenes. Koni was good with her girlish high sympathetic voice and fluttering, long, mascara fake eyelashes, and Steven with his put on sad puppy look....like I said...totally nauseating ...but I loved it.

I also absolutely enjoyed S&S's chemistry. Sonija was so good as the jealous lover, and Steven the flirtatious lover.

And I enjoyed Bosco and Joyce's chemistry too. Joyce resembles her mother, Fei Fei, so much. I can so see Fei Fei in her facial expression.

So gotta wait for episode 5, bummer!

*************************************************
 Episode 3
While Calvin pretends to lock up his precious items inside the hotel vault, he has on a pair of specially made glasses with hidden video camera.  At one point, Christy complaints that the video images are too shaky, stop moving so much.  Later at the breakfast buffet table, Calvin quips that the shaky video is because he is just imitating Ho (Wong) Kai-Wai's technique. haha!
See screen caps: steven ma baidu

episode 2:
Still fast paced, and exciting and funny to watch. The funniest part was when Joyce bumps in Bosco again and tells him of her suspicion towards Yuen Wah because of his fast reaction. And when Bosco asks what reaction, Joyce slaps him unexpectedly and says, "See, even you couldn't avoid my slap but that gray beard could!" Haha! Very funny!

I find the episode went so fast and so delightful to watch that I actually re-watched it twice.

**************************************
The 1st episode.
Good news, according to Candy Ng, a TVB production staff member, the 1st episode of 7 Days garnered 32 points in rating. Yay!

The whole cast did really well in the opening episode. Each was given a chance to shine in their role. The 1st episode was delightful to watch. It was funny without the overboard slapstick humor although the bumbling reporter act of Joyce was a bit hackneyed but still nicely done. And Patrick was really funny without acting funny, so kudos to him. As was Mimi Lo with her selection of nighties. haha! And leisurely singing in the bubbles filled bathtub while horny Yu Yeung was like having ants in his pants. And Bosco's scene with Mak Bao was funny too. But of course, the highlight for me was of course the Steven's scenes with Sonija. They made a handsome couple. And it was a treat for me to see Steven acting the flippant lover to Sonija. And that scene when they were chatting, oh so casually, about Jo On's online dalliances with 4 other women, wait, 5 women from different countries was fun to watch too. All in all, a delightful and lighthearted opening episode to watch.

*******************************

Fast paced, and lighthearted, and very interesting. Bosco looks cool, and Steven amazingly handsome.

Misunderstanding Dissolved; Steven Ma's One Kiss Sealed Him as Mr. Suction Cup.
郭羨妮「誤會」已冰釋 馬仔一吻封「吸盤先生」
Steven Ma and Sonija Kwok’s new series, 7 Days in Life, produced by Leung Choi Yuen, premiered recently. Besides the light kisses scene already aired, the pair has an extremely intimate scene that has yet to air. Sonija reveals that prior to that shoot, Steven called her up on the phone to analyze the scene. “Actually, it’s not our first time performing an intimate scene, moreover, we are all professional actors, so if we follow the script, there shouldn’t be any awkwardness. I’ve complete trust in him. He is a real gentleman, and is very protective of his partners. After the shoot, while checking out the pictures, I noticed that the shape of his mouth while kissing me resembles a squid’s suction cup. Later on weibo while chatting with him, I even teased him as “Mr. Suction Cup”.

In the series, Steven portrays a flirty burglar. Although he loves Sonija deeply, he still hooks up with other females thus provoking Sonija’s jealousy and their constant arguments; in one such occasion, Sonija even slapped Steven real hard on the face. Sonija says: “This scene was really difficult to act out. I don’t know how to argue, will cry after saying just a few words. To me, arguing scenes are much more harder to perform.”

A few years ago, because of a scandal they misunderstood each other, which broke their friendship. This series is their ‘ice-breaker’ first collaboration. Having experienced so much tribulation, Sonija treasures her present friendship with Steven all the more. She now has a better understanding of Steven’s character and thinking. “From our first collaboration to today’s re-meeting, we have all matured. My looking back at our past misunderstandings evokes only a faint smile. (得啖笑?) Now I understand how he thinks and what he says. We have become good friends. After finishing this series, we still keep in touch. Our feelings have been elevated to that of good friends for life. I think Steven and I are matching, our collaboration had sparks. Hope to collaborate with him again. Will be even happier if we can become an on-screen couple.”

So much publicity on Steven and Sonija's intense kiss scene but that on screen kiss just flashed by in a blink of an eye.  What a let down.

7 Days in Life’s Premiere Garnered High Rating; Steven Ma Praised Being  “Explosively Handsome”!
 Source: ent163.com

TVB new series, 7 Days in Life, starring Steven Ma, Sonija Kwok and Bosco Wong, premiered last night garnering an average rating of 32 points. Furthermore, the online response was not bad either, drawing  high praises from the netizens for “its fast paced storyline and its fresh characters with distinctive personalities imbued with a touch of humor.”   Producer Leung Choi Yuen expresses: “7 Days in Life is a black humor comedy that is even more out-there than A Watchdog’s Tale.  Also the scriptwriting of its complex human relationship is even more intricate than When Lanes Merge. “

Praised for its fast-paced and tight story, characters are fresh with distinctive personalities.
7 Days in Life tells how Bosco Wong as CID Chiu Jin Lung while investigating a kidnapping case tracks down the kidnapper into the hotel, which coincidentally and unexpectedly is sealed off and quarantined by the order of the government due to a previous hotel guest being diagnosed with a new strain of influenza virus.   Trapped inside the hotel during that duration, Chiu Jin Lung encounters all kinds of strange people and happenings.   The focal points include: Bosco pursues thieves; Patrick Tang bungles in kidnapping; Steven Ma steals precious gems; each taking turn as highlights; intense and exciting, it (1st episode) was humorous too.  Many netizens expressed it was “very funny, and immensely enjoyable”.  Also, some netizens praised  the storyline  for being  "humorous, the characters refreshing, the episode fast-paced and exciting.  Very enjoyable!”

Steven Ma’s Burglar Makeover Praised for being “Explosively Handsome”
During their 2003 (sic 2002) ‘Perish in the Name of Love’ collaboration, Steven Ma and Sonija Kwok were rumored to be on bad terms, but now that they have buried the hatchet  after a lapse of 7 years, they once again collaborated in this series portraying a pair of super thieves, with numerous intimate scenes.  Steven once jested that in all his years of shooting series, 7 Days was the first one to enable him to luck out in females’ company. “All these years in the industry, I’d never portrayed such a flippant character, and moreover, to luck out with the women, too.   In the series, all the female characters love me, and are jealous of each other over me.  I have bed scene(s) with Sonija, and Koni Lui seduced me making Sonija jealous.  Having live this long, whether in real life or in series, I’d never experienced such good peach blossoms luck.”

Even though this was Steven’s first time in the role as a philanderer, his performance received netizens’ approbation, in particular his black burglar makeover which had many netizens exclaimed: “So stunning! Truly explosively handsome.”

Producer Leung Choi Yuen: The scriptwriting is even more intricate.
Besides recommending the series is enjoyable to watch, Producer Leung said: Among the guests trapped inside the quarantined hotel, there is a pair of complex and mystifying super thieves, Steven Ma and Sonija Kwok; a CID officer, Bosco Wong; an obscure master as the hotel handy man, Yuen Wah; an emotional reporter, Joyce Cheng; an older social escort and singing queen, Mimi Lo; a compassionate and timid kidnapper, Patrick Tang, so on and so forth.  Although they only co-habited for seven days, their lives were turned upside down.  When the situation reverts back, this “journey” unexpectedly becomes a beautiful and unforgettable collective memory for all those involved.

Producer Leung Choi Yuen expresses: “7 Days in Life is a black humor comedy that is even more out-there than A Watchdog’s Tale.  Also the scriptwriting of its complex human relationship is even more intricate than When Lanes Merge. “

Four days of imperial court shoot finally wrapped up!  Totally exhausted, but can’t sleep.  Maybe because I was totally invested in this shoot so would not tolerate any imperfection!  I thought; if only I was allowed more time.. but, the shooting (date) is already up to 31. Never mind!  Anyway, I truly have to thank my colleagues in studio 13 who endured the past 4 days with me.   My sincere thanks to you all!   Also to the actors and temporary actors who knelt for 4 days in a row, know that your kneeling was very tiring and very painful,  thank you to all.

1/24 7 15:26  Days in Life premieres tonight but Yik Jo On is still in the Forbidden City battling Nip Dou Bo so can’t watch the live broadcast myself!  However, I sincerely hope that you all will enjoy this series!  Thank you for your support! ^_^
