thoughts on Mr. Poon

Mr. Poon is not only a very shrewd business man but highly intelligent and observant too. I really enjoyed watching the numerous father-son chats between Mr. Poon and Ka Yeung. At the same time, these heart-to-heart, father to son scenes accentuated even more the unfair treatment of Mr. Poon towards Ka Hin.  With Ka Yeung, Mr. Poon reveals his inner most thoughts and high hopes for him, but with Ka Hin there are no such private father to son talks, only public shaming with his caustic rebukes for incompetency and expression of his disappointment in Ka Hin.

But in epi 20, during his talk with Ka Yeung, he expresses his love for all his children including Ka Hin too. He wishes that the bad things befell him instead of his children and that includes Ha Hin.  And also when talking with his wife, he is genuinely worried for Ka Hin, not just for the family's reputation. And in an earlier episode he reveals to Ka Yeung the reason why he is reluctant to hand over the dong ka position to Ka Hin is not only because he does not have the dong ka capability but that Ka Hin would be gradually destroyed by the stress of doing something beyond his capability, so in a sense Mr. Poon is protecting Ka Hin.  But why is he so harsh to Ka Hin, just because he is not his biological son?  But in an earlier episode, Ka Yeung said Mr. Poon has taught him from young to be fair and judicious, and in many scenes Mr. Poon is depicted as such in his dealings with crisis, except for his unfairness to Ka Hin.

Eta after watching epi 21 where Mr. Poon says he rather Ka Hin dead than Ka Seng.  How can a father say such thing to his own son, or to anybody, for that matter.  What a terrible father, what a terrible human being, his sorrow notwithstanding.
