two men over a woman - rotc

epi 16 Lai Shun a confident man

So, how long has Kwan Ho known Lai Shun - months? Definitely less than a year versus her whole life with Man Chor.  So isn't it natural that she would run to her most beloved 'brother', who is most precious to her next to her mom, not necessarily because of romantic love but familial love?  Putting aside the question of romantic love vs familial love, can her ingrained love for Man Chor be so easily overcome by love for Lai Shun, who was but a mere stranger not so long ago? So, in the same concept of "who would you save, your mother or your wife?  Who indeed!

Anyway, if I were Lai Shun faced with this dilemma I would remove/distant myself from Kwan Ho and risk losing her, so that she can have the space to make up her mind - after all, they have just started dating not that long ago. Yes, they like each other,  but their passion I don't see nor feel between KH with Lai Shun, or for that matter, between KH and Man Chor?  This whole series to me is a warm drama  high on familial love and friendship but as an 'unforgettable' triangle love story, it totally lacks the intensity and  romantic passion unlike the similar 讓愛 trope in Sweetness in the Salt Anyway Kwan Ho is still a university undergraduate so what's the hurry to get marry? Is it the time period - what year did this story take place?  Anyway, this is a TVB series - don't ask why, it just is!

  1. Haha. If l am not wrong. Return of The Cuckoo movie only screened in Singapore cinemas barely one over week ( less than 2 weeks). This shows its not well received over here. Bravo!!

  2. 本人並不是變態。而是实在感到很高兴那套《十月初五的月光》在我居住地方的戏院也是上映了僅僅大概一个多星期, 就下画了。可想而知票房不是很理想吧。真是大快人心。早前此部电影的制作人对steven的不公平对待, 可算是报了仇(at least to me, l view it as such). Just wanted to voice out my disgruntle here.

  3. Guess, the Singaporeans don't have sentimentality over the original tv version.

  4. Well. Whatever sentimentality Singaporeans have, is still that sentiment : serves Stephen Siu right!!!That his movie not popular here. Hooray!!

    1. On the flip side, SM let himself be treated like a 'spare tyre'. He could very well say no, right? And that's that but instead he decided to play nice as was his wont. SM could have tactfully but firmly removed himself, if only for his fans' and Lai Shun fans' sake, from 'destroying' 'a classic drama', but instead for whatever reasons he agreed to guest star, one of which is, in his own words, he was most moved by the movie story. Really? Is the storyline involving the death of a beloved husband and 2 young children that moving? Like I said, I'm neutral to all the hoopla over the movie. Mr. S. Shiu could only ask, and SM could decline.

    2. Probably you're right Tamaya to say that it's indeed SM's folly to be treated like a spare tyre. Can't blame Shiu entirely. Well well...Shall cease ranting on this issue and let the matter rest.

    3. haha! Wendy, your response took me by surprise, thought for sure you would come back with a rebut. Just so you know, unless it is blatant bashing, you and for that matter, anybody who wishes to, can vent to his/her heart's content. Here is the blog to express all opinions and release feelings on certain topics.

  6. And like deliberately "cursing" Steven on his birthday. Ask Shiu go and die himself first. 小赤佬!

    1. That I think was unintentional. Mr. Shiu might not have known it was SM's birthday that day. So, like the Chinese saying goes: 無知者無罪- the ignorant is not guilty.

  7. Btw, curious to know what's the box office takings of this movie in HK? Was it a success? No updates of this movie in our local press unlike the previous movie Triumph into the Sky 2 which was reportedly quite triumphant in Spore.

    1. The last I read was this news article November 14, 2015 jaynestars.com written a few days after Rotc mainland nov 12th opening. No sure how it did thereafter its opening day.

"The film version of the popular 2000 TVB series, Return of the Cuckoo , premiered across Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Malaysia on November 12, 2015. Starring the original main cast of Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), and Nancy Sit (薛家燕), the film groomed $1.2 million HKD at the box office in just one day. It is currently number one in box office rankings for an Asian film."
