Tamaya@AF#542 Posted 16 June 2008 - 10:43 PM

[2008-05-29] Joyce Koi & Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra 3rd time collaboration to perfom in Hong Kong Cultural Center from 25/6/2008 - 29/6/2008. This is their 3rd time collaborating. Joyce invited her good friend, Steven Ma, to be her special guest for the concert. They will sing a Cantonese opera duet, 鳳閣恩仇未了. Yesterday, they rehearsed their duet for the first time.

The week prior, Steven has had a stomach flu. He joked that during the rehearsal he felt like throwing up. Joyce quipped, "Did I make you feel like throwing up?" Still a month away from opening night, Joyce revealed that she, herself, had already started rehearsing, but that, Steven, because of his illness, just got started yesterday. This wasn't their first collaboration; they collaborated last year for stage performances held in Canada. At that time, they sang a Cantonese Opera duet. Accompanied by the Chinese orchestra, their duet went without a hitch during the actual performance.

Excerpt on Steven: 钟嘉欣拍戏压力大 马浚伟亲自煲凉茶
Linda was under great pressure during AJCL production; Steven made cooling herb tea for her.

The gist of the report.
Linda was one busy girl during the filming of AJCL, taking on 3 projects at the same time. Her health and moods bore the brunt of her pressure. For one whole month, she suffered from a severe sore throat infection. At seeing her health condition, Steven solicitiously took care of her, even bringing her cooling herb tea.

Translation of Linda's interview on the subject of Steven: 钟嘉欣拍戏压力大 马浚伟亲自煲凉茶 Linda was under great pressure during AJCL production; Steven made herbal tea for her.

To find out whether the rumors of Raymond pursuing Linda are true or not, through an intermediary, this reporter managed to contact Linda over the phone. However, before the reporter could bring up the rumors for clarification, Linda ended the barely 5-minute interview on the pretext of tight schedule.

So within these 5 minutes, what questions did the reporter pose to Linda.

Asked about her latest series AJCL and her onscreen husband, Mazai, Ma Chun Wai.

With her plate overflowing with 3 concurrent filming projects, Linda was stretched out and stressed out. Ma Zai was understanding, constantly bringing her cooling herbal tea to 去火 (reduce heatiness)

Linda was loquacious on the subject of MaZai, Ma Chun Wai. "AJCL was our 2nd collaboration. The first was: VOH 2. He was like a big brother, constantly taking care of me and encouraging me."

She revealed that while filming AJCL, she was also concurrently working on another series and a movie. Her hectic schedules and sapping energy caused her moods to fluctuate greatly.

"Furthermore, due to fatigue, throat infection and laryngitis, I was at my lowest for 1 whole month. Seeing me thus, Mazai was especially solicitous and caring towards me, even bringing me herbal tea (凉茶)."

Ma Zai made the tea personally for Linda?

"No lah! His father made the tea. He (Mazai) saw that I was suffering from heatiness, so on the set he shared his with me. Very thoughtful of him."

Linda also said that her most memorable scene was the birthing scene. She said she didn't know where the tears came from, maybe she was truly into the character, but she could not stop crying for the 3 hours that the scene took to finish.

Tamaya: Afterword
--- Let's say Linda's overly hectic schedules did not compromise the quality of her performance, but they were, at the very least, very unfair to her AJCL co-stars, being that they had to deal with an over-stressed and moody colleague.

On a live radio interview, Linda personally brought up the subject of her breakdown in the set, which lasted an hour . And that during that hour she was crying hysterically nonstop. Steven and Elaine took turns (or simultaneously) comforting her and letting her cry out. No wonder, she chose Steven as her best onscreen partner.

---Let's hope that Linda has learnt the lesson of not burning the candle at both ends.

---No wonder her tears came so naturally in her crying scenes, so exhausted and stressed out was she during that period.

---Steven may think nothing of bringing soups/herb teas to his colleagues, but to the beneficiaries, they were gestures of unexpected, random kindness especially in the entertainment world.

Linda talked about her breakdown in this radio interview. Both Steven & Linda were scheduled for the show in the studio, but Linda called off at the last minute, and did a phone interview instead. It just happened that Linda's birthday falls on that day, too. So host & hostess brought up her characteristics based on the birthdate, and asked Steven's opinion on how correct the horoscope is to Linda.

Linda was put on the spot when asked by the hostess to write the word, "thrifty" (Han in Cantonese) as that was the theme of the day for the show. When Steven hears that request, he laughingly says, "What? You ask a guai mui zai (overseas Chinese) to write a Chinese word?" Haha!

Got to listen to this. Very funny! Linda can recognize and understand Chinese words when in context, like in script, but does have difficulty writing them out.

It seems that his co-stars made much more of a deal out of sharing his herbal soups/tea than Steven did. Wouldn't have known of his gesture if not for them mentioning it publicly.
