Congratulations to Steven Ma on his 20th anniversary

Twenty years, years filled with all kinds of emotions, of surmounting setbacks and celebrating accomplishments, of  years passing and of time slipping by; the ups and the downs; the gains and the losses.  20 years - half of Steven's 42 years -- that perservance of sticking it through thick and thin for 20 years is in itself an accomplishment. Bravo! Well done, Steven; so proud of you and your accomplishments over the years.

On this auspicious day:
As fan, here's wishing you that your acting career continues to prosper to the next level with superior dramas; your singing career continues to release new music albums and to hold concerts worldwide, (esp. places close to me); and your writing career continues to publish more books  God has blessed you with many talents, and we as fans are so fortunate to benefit from your talents and the efforts you put into them.  Go with your heart's desire on how you wish to walk this artistic journey of yours.  May your dreams come true sooner than later.

On a personal note, thank you, Steven, for inspiring me with your wisdom and beliefs. Truly, 9/27 is a day of retrospection for Steven and fans alike on the past, and for Steven also a day of introspection of the present and the future of what he wants to do and how to accomplish that.  Best of luck to him!

If interest, read my essays on my journey as Steven Ma fan starting with my self-intro as to how I became a SM fan.  link.  (I wrote my intro as SM fan because I'd been asked frequently on my conversion.)

Anyone care to reminisce how you became a Steven Ma fan?

  1. I read your essays. Wow! And I enjoyed reading your journey to became a fan of Steven. Just like you, I begun to google his name for more TVB series of him, right after I watched Better Halves.
But the first series I watched is "Duke of mount deer", I watched it when I was just a 8-years old little girl then! Haha. So yeah, time gone by, I can not remember who is that handsome Kang Xi is... And just a few years ago, having a chance to watch BH by random picking series to watch on the internet. ^^ (can say it like a "美麗緣份". Heehee.), I totally fall in love with Yuan Ka Fu.
Then, the more I read, the more I study about his career, also his life, I become more and more love this person. He inspire me very much, even that I taken his attitude toward life as a model (Thanks you very much for making this blog which full of all detailed news and translation). Honestly, I do not know exactly when I became his fan. Do not know when I started to admire, respect him not just as an actor, a singer but as a person in general.

P.s: my favorite character used to be: 1st is Yuan Ka Fu, 2nd - Tse Wong Sheung; 3th - Sheng Yat On.
But now, I can not tell you who I love most... cause that list has already become longer and longer... Haha. I recently add Tang Ting Xuen, Li Lai Fu, Nip Do Bo... to that 1st list.

    1. Haha! High 5 on Better Halves -- I miss that comedic side of Steven's recent character and the witty, clever dialogues. Most Steven fans became fan because of his adorable and handsome Kangxi. I put off watching Domd 1998 cos' the length of the series' 43(?) was way too long plus Steven's screen time not that much, moreover I had watched Andy Lau's Domd long ago, and I wasn't that fond of the story line of Wei Xiao Bao having so many wives. And also the quality of all uploaded series online was poor, but I did watch snatches of Steven's only scenes on utube (15 minutes each, in Mandarin, videos now long deleted). And Steven was seriously adorable and beautiful and delicate. It wasn't until early this year that I actually watched the whole series (in Cantonese, good quality video) without fast forwarding to Kangxi only scenes, and I was surprised by how much I truly enjoyed that series even Jordan's scenes, I was 'sad' when the series finally ended. It had entertainment me for many hours.

I think you and I have similar reasons as to why we so diligently and laboriously translate Steven's news into English and Viet, respectively: first, we enjoy the translation work; 2nd, and more importantly, so that our translations can let more people get to know Steven as artist and as person.

      reposting my old sentiment:
"The old fans’ passions for Steven and his series may have waned substantially if not gone, but their past passion stays forever in their posted words. And this vestige of their passion has the ability to kindle the passion in their readers for Steven. Occasionally, an old fan would pop in to leave a line or two commenting that real life has prevented her from posting like she used to, nevertheless her support for Steven has not changed. That got me thinking, one day reality would prevent me from posting. Before that happens, I want to pass on my passion for Steven and his work to fans that will come later, fans like you all in here."

For your love of TTX and Lai Fu, I will continue with my write-up on Yuan Yang Pei. Hopefully the dvds arrived soon.
