11/30 09:40  I heard that dogs can distinguish human moods, the reason being that our emotions affect the hormone secretion of different body odor.  So when you are laughing with happiness, the dog will be happy for you by wagging its tail; when you are crying with sadness, the dog will be sad for you and lick your tears!
11/29 15:26  Wah! Help! The Dingdong version of "聖鬥士星矢"(Saint Seiya). I want it real bad!  Everybody and little piggies, can you tell me if there is truly this “Dong” version?
11/29 07:32  Good morning, at work again!  Time passes really fast, in a blink of an eye, the shooting of “Thunder” is almost a month already, two months still to go.  To all brothers and sisters of “Thunder”, let us all work hard together, ga yao!
To think I did not even notice that little piggies had done something so meaningful.. I am truly moved!  4th Brother is proud to have brothers and sisters like you all.  Regardless of where you are, compassion links our hearts together!  Thank you to all of you!
11/28 20:14Though busy shooting “Thunder”, but still should not neglect to push “Links”.  Premiering on TVB on December 13th at 9:30 pm.  All Links cast members, let’s all show support la!

11/28 13:15  These doggies are way too cute!  I couldn’t help but yell out: Tooooo adorable!

11/27 19:04  In Thunder script, I have this line to say, which incidentally coincide with what Tim Gor has said before: “More fairness, less selfish motives!”   Truly, what the world most needs and most lacks nowadays is exactly that!  Maybe, a lone effort can’t do much, but “Virtue is not solitary, it has neighbors.”  Don’t let the fear of being the only one prevent you from taking action.  Not taking action is tantamount to approval! I will, and wish to walk with you all. Mutual sharing!

Steven Ma and Kenneth Ma Learned Peking Opera, and Received Praises for it.

Steven Ma and Kenneth Ma shot a Peking Opera scene for The Alarming Thunder of the Forbidden City. These two Hong Kong artistes who had no prior knowledge of Peking Opera whatsoever were like two frenzied Peking ducks for half an hour attempting to memorize by rote a portion of aria demonstrated by their Peking Opera teacher.

Steven practices his Cantonese opera singing regularly, so although there was pressure he was not overly flustered. But to poor Kenneth, Peking Opera was all Greek to him. Seeing his furrowed brow as he sang, it brought home that this bowl of instant noodles was truly not easy to ingest. But, regardless, the assignment must be accomplished; so under the expectant and watchful eyes of the whole  videocamera crew, the two Mas belted out the song: one sang as Guan Gong*, the other, Zhao Zi Long*. These two brothers put into practice the idiom of “live together, die together”. (TN: float or sink together in the same boat) When the director yelled “roll”, they immediately opened up their mouths and began to sing no stop. Who could have thought that their singing was delivered with both clear diction and precise intonation? One take and their scene passed muster. The Peking Opera teacher and the whole camera crew broke into instant applause to show their approval. Thus a pair of “smart horses” (Ma) successfully passed the hurdle; they were so elated they whooped  with exuberance!

The Peking Opera teacher praised the two Mas: “Peking Opera is a national treasure, and you both got the hang of it just like that. Very smart ya! You two are also a pair of national treasures!”

Steven enjoys Cantonese Opera, but after this stint with Peking Opera, Steven feels that it is not only pleasant to his ears but that it is also suitable for him to perform on stage; hence, it kindled an interest in him to learn Peking Opera himself. He says: “I intend to learn Peking Opera from the Peking Opera teacher. When I'm proficient, it will be another artistic skill. When performing on stage, it will provide an alternative choice.”

*Guan Yu (military general under Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms period)

Note: No wonder Steven loves being in Qing Dynasty, it's like he were from that era. In fact, Steven has said that the late Qing is among his most favorite Chinese history era.

Rebuttal to Tse X Tai Bond Manifest

 ******************************************************
Tse X Tai Bond Manifest:  Tse and Tai share an immutable chemistry, whether as official and subordinate, friends or lovers
Tamaya:-
Great minds think alike, but fools seldom differ.
Oh, for the joyous meeting of like minds – be it likened to “water unto wine” or birds of a feather flocked together.

1. It should be noted that since young before his return to his backwater hometown, Tse has lived his life ensconced in a male dominated, academic setting. It can be inferred that he grew up in a genteel environment where intelligence and erudition were most priced above all things. But upon his return to Leung Choi county, he’s like a big fish confined in a small pond. Poetry recitation is all well and good for passing time, but he does have a lofty dream to pursue. In short, life in Leung Choi county is a bore. His stealing of his father’s precious jade bowl speaks volumes of his idleness, if not his boredom. Everyday he bugs his father to secure him an official post, so that he can begin the life he envisions. (Can’t understand why he didn’t sit for the civil service exam.) And when his father finally concedes, what did he get but a lowly post; to add insult to injury, he even acquires for him 5 dimwitted goons as bodyguards. Oh, the indignity.

The Bond Explained
or 10 reasons why Tse/Tai rules, and why it still works alongside Tse/Mui!
“Old Master is…dumb?”
Tse's first impression of Tai
(Episode 1)

To begin with, frankly, I personally feel that this pairing does not require any explanation cos it obviously holds its own, but here's the lowdown on what makes this duo form a bond beyond any partnership or ordinary camaraderie would ever be able to.

1. Save Chuk-Fan-Min-Fun, (who seem to walk and talk synchronized like clockwork) Tse and Tai share an immutable chemistry, whether as official and subordinate, friends or lovers. Even right from the start, Tse understands Tai perfectly and his gestures and words are swiftly intercepted and put into action. The (40) two act together like water unto wine, be it working on cases or simply, teasing the crap out of Chan Sai Mui. Tai is probably the only person on the same wavelength as Tse, the both of them (41) read each other's thoughts effortlessly. Right from the start, Tse and Tai trust each other, and the relationship is mutual from both sides. Tse greatly admires Tai's genius and investigative skills, while deep inside, Tai views Tse as the sort of savior that the imperial legal system needs desperately.

Tse Wong Sheung (Steven Ma)

Tse Wong Sheung is born into a rice merchant family, the son of Tse Chong Tin. To show his gratitude to the Emperor for His Majesty’s bestowal of a 9-Dragon jade bowl, he summarily changed his son’s name to Tse Wong Sheung. Wong Sheung is exceptionally bright, and can’t stand stupid people. He is the current agricultural official in Leung Choi County.

Tamaya:
Quick analysis: The growth of Wong Sheung as a politician
Wong Sheung first appeared on scene as a pampered, immature and rather frivolous son of a wealthy rice merchant. At that time, he was a young man still wet behind the ears, filled with idealism, visions, and dreams of being a righteous government official, like his hero, Bao Qing Tian. How he would go about it, he had no ideas except for getting an official post; for hitherto, his life had been smooth sailing. His worst suffering then was having his hair look like Mickey mouse’s ears, and almost drowning. For that 'misfortune', his ghost tormented the culprit. But Wong Sheung has since grown up from such childish antics.

His charm is irreversible, his talents are immeasurable, his talents are numerous, and what else but to say, he is an amazing actor and person as a whole!

Its one thing to be an amazing actor, but he is also one with a great heart. He has so many friends in the business and I've never heard, but a single bad thing about the man. It is a pity that his health is not as good as it should be, and I pray for him for the reason. He is definitely an actor I'd wish to see for decades to come!

Personally I didn't like Moses and Niki's collaboration in TGCI; as a single actor, neither of them did a bad job, but as a couple, there were too many missing chemical romances.

During the Ming and Ching Dynasties, a person became a government official either through the proper route or through a backdoor. The proper route required passing of a a civil service examination. Whereas one of the backdoor routes was by ‘buying' an official post, like how Tse Wong Sheong got his. During the Ming Dynasty, the court permitted the granting of sinecures in exchange for ‘donations' as a means of filling its coffers.

Yamen(衙門); a magistrate's or other officials' offices were originally written as ( 牙門) (teeth door) until the Song dynasty.

The official's warrant holder holds 10 warrant sticks. When he gives an order, he will toss out a warrant stick from the holder. This warrant stick is comparable to a military general's order given with an arrow (令箭-an arrow-shaped token of authority used in the army in ancient China.). It represents the authority of the presiding official to carry out an official business. During a trial, when ordering punishment, he will also toss out a warrant stick; it's called: casting the stick. “洒签”.

Often in a period series, the presiding official likes to bang loudly on his table with his ‘intimidating block' 惊堂木(like a judge's gavel?) This is to intimidate the accused, and to show off his authority. Usually the block was made of mahogany or sandalwood.

The drum is placed at the entrance of the yamen. Some yamen used copper gongs instead of drums. Either way, they are used for transmitting news. Some yamen do not have either one, so the plaintive will have to yell out his/her grievances or petition; 喊禀 . If a person beats on the drum for no sufficient reason, he/she will be beaten by the yamen as a penalty.

Gentle Crackdown summary

One high summer, massive famines due to successive harsh weathers caused untold hardships in theLeung Choi County. Finally, unable to bear the peasants' protracted sufferings, Chen Zong, acting on his own initiative, threw open the doors of the county's grain reserve for them. For this altruistic but unauthorized deed, he was banished by the court to the frontier, where he subsequently died of an illness, leaving behind an orphaned daughter, Chan Sai Mui. (Yumiko)

Fortunately, Zhu QingTing's father took Mui in as part of the family. Furthermore, the villagers took upon themselves to watch over Mui; whereas the elderly men acted as her godfathers, while the elderly women, her godmothers. And so the years passed happily, as Mui slowly grew into adulthood. She has inherited her deceased father's honorable and chivalrous spirit, and has become an enthusiastic and helpful guardian of the peasants.

Tse Wong Sheung (Steven) (literal translation – Thanks Emperor/Your Majesty) is a romantic; accomplished and very intelligent. He aspires to be an enlightened government official. Conversely, his father, Xie Chong Tin (Ha Yu) (transliteration – Thanks Heaven) is a materialistic rice merchant. As the saying goes, it takes a father to know a son; and indeed Chong Tin knows his son well. To fulfill his son's aspiration, he spared no gold to ‘obtain' an agricultural official post for him. And also hired a sharp and astute person, a one Dai Chong Man aka Da Lo Ye to be a troubleshooter for his son.

To avenge her sister, Little Butterfly's death, Flying Goose single-mindedly seeks out Tse Wong Sheung. Little Butterfly was a renowned Hangzhou prostitute. Apparently, she fell in love with someone who claimed to be the young master of a rice store in Leung Choi County and called himself, Tse Wong Sheung. When Little Butterfly belatedly found out that she was deceived of money and love by Tse Wong Sheung, she took her own life by drinking poisoned wine. Reading Little Butterfly's journal, Flying Goose discovered Tse Wong Sheung's evil doings. The evidence against Tse Wong Sheung is overwhelming.

Su ZanDong, the newly appointed county official of Leung Choi County, sits on this case. However, because of a long-standing grudge between ZanDong and Chung Man, plus the fact that he has been bribed by the real perpetrator, Zan Dong is ready to convict Tse Wong Sheung of the crime. Luckily, because of Chung Man's painstaking peeling apart of the case, strong evidence pointed irrefutably to a different perpetrator, thus, acquitting HuangShang of the crime.

Next, in investigating HongSeoi's (Perfume) murder, Wong Sheung and Chung Man using their wits and sharpness discovered that Perfume is not dead, and that the victim is someone else. Both are terrified by this discovery, hence, are drawn closer to each other.

Later, TongSeoi's father's Tong DaiHoi is murdered. ZanDong's younger brother, Zan Nam is implicated in the murder case. Actually, DaiHoi is accidentally killed by Chu ChingTing. To protect him, Mui covers up for him and takes the blame for the crime. Mui is summarily convicted of it. To prevent Mui from imprisonment, Wong Sheung hastily came up with a fake marriage quick plan. If Mui married into the Tse family, as a family member she will be protected by the jade bowl bestowed by the current emperor to the family. Mui is very touched by Wong Shueng's willingness to stick out his neck for her.

On the side, Chung Man leaves Leung Choi to seek out his twin brother, Chung Wu, only to find out that he has passed away. Although saddened, Chung Man decides to take his deceased brother's identity of a corrupt official. As the newly appointed official in Leung Choi county, he secretly assists Wong Sheung in his work, and solving unusual cases.
