Guangzhou 21st  "美在花城新星大赛" beauty pageant on Dec 14 at 8: 20 pm live on:  综合频道 生活频道 and PPTV 直播  (廣州電視台).  Steven and Patrick Kong (birth name: Yip Lim Sum 葉念琛) are in the judging panel.  Kong happens to be the director of movie version, Return of the Cuckoo, which Steven's character is killed off in the storyline.

PPTV works fine for me but the focus is of course on the contestants. Haiz! For someone who don't even watch Miss Hong Kong or Miss Chinese international shows or most any beauty pageant tv shows, I actually tuned in to watch this one,  albeit late (the last two contestants on the interview segment onwards), just to see Steven.

Contestant#5 is very pretty and poised with a sweet voice, and I like the her answer likening Steven to a plain mantou (bun) because that bun is a staple food of her hometown. (MC: What if she personally made the bun for you?) Steven: I'll go home with her then. I guess the audience like her too by giving her a high score.

Contestant#6: The skinniest at 43 kg/95 lbs. Q: Whom do you want to work with, Patrick or Steven or this very Guangzhou TV station? She picks the latter because hopefully by working in this tv station she might have the chance to work with either Steven or Patrick at the station in the near future. She gets the highest score yet - A good answer that.  eta: She gave the best answer.

Contestant#7: Say you are Monk Tang Seng (as in Monkey King), who would you choose to take with you on your journey.  (the 2 mcs, plus Steven)  Why Steven - as Sandy, cos' of Steven's handsomeness he is more likely to be abducted instead of Monk Tang himself (something like that, lol).  The male mc as monkey cos' he is quick on his feet, and female mc as piggy cos' she is so pretty. (huh?)

Contestant#8: At 18 years old, she's the youngest. Her mom was the 1st beauty queen of this beauty pageant. I forgot what the question posed to her. (guess it is not Steven related question.)

contestant#9: Cringeworthy shrill voice. Given the choice, she picks to act a 200 over lbs fat character.

Contestant#10: When asked which 2 words would make her mad. She says: Piao liang (pretty) because she is a feminist.  MC then asked her to "sai jiao" (coquettish) to the audience.

contestant#11: Q: Persuade Patrick to cast her in his movie.  oops! She got the wrong cast names in Return of the Cuckoo, and was stump to come up with the names of Patrick's other movies.

Steven Ma Praised as the Nanny to the Miss Chinese Beauty Pageant. Happy to meet old friends again.
Steven Ma just came back to Hong Kong from his US-Canada’s performance stint, a trip that lasted more than 10 days beginning August 19 until his return. Steven first went to New York for an autograph signing session, and then onto a guest performance in the Miss New York Chinese Beauty Pageant 2010. Next, he flew to Toronto to perform in a two-night charity fund-raising dinner show organized by the local arts group. Steven says that this trip stirred up deep feelings; the last time he performed in a Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant was 8 years ago. This time he was re-united with the same staff from that year. “They said everybody has become fat and sports a pot belly, but I still look the same. Look even younger than 8 years ago. I told them to play a few games of badminton, drink more soup; if possible, get plenty of sleep. Then you’ll get younger. Haha!”

Steven also met Jessie Liu, the winner of that year Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant 2002. She and Louis Yuen co-hosted this year pageant. “I feel that she and I have ‘yuan’. (fate) She was very happy that we met again on stage. Jessie plans to release an album soon, and will come to Hong Kong for recording. We’ve exchanged phone numbers. When she comes to Hong Kong, I’ll arrange a meeting with her and Louis for a get-together dinner.”

On that night, Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant 2008, Stacy Wang, was arranged as Steven’s dancing partner in a chacha dance. The chairman of the Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant, Yip Biu, (葉彪) praised Steven as the nanny  for the ‘hua jie’ (Miss Chinese Beauty Winners) because many ‘hua jie’ including Bernice Liu, Fala Chen, and Linda Chung all have had numerous collaborations with Steven after entering TVB. Mr. Yip also praised Steven for being a good teacher; all those ‘hua jie’ who collaborated with him got a good start in Hong Kong.

Besides work, Steven also toured Casino Mohegan Sun in US. (TN: that’s the pageant venue) The casino owner highly recommended the lobsters and oysters in the casino restaurant, so he took Steven, Louis and some employees for dinner there. The restaurant has an open kitchen and the ingredients were all very fresh. Steven could not resist checking out the restaurant, and the chef of that night very obligingly let Steven take pictures of him posed in front of the stoves. Steven’s colleagues laughed that he must have become possessed by master chef because of his Apprentice Chef program. When his lobster dinner came, Steven commented that it was enormous and had lots of goop. (tamale). Luckily they all shared the lobster, and Steven, after eating only a quarter of it said he was stuffed. Lucky for him, his cholesterol has always been on the low side so was not afraid it might cause problem. (to his health)

After his New York stint, Steven straight away flew to Toronto to perform in a 2-night charity dinner show. Because of the rain that day, the flight was continuously delayed. Steven had to stay put in the airport for 5 hours. “But I support the airline’s decision. Would rather wait than have accidents. Compensation won’t do any good.”

Besides rehearsing for the performance, Steven found time to get together with old friends there, including Louise Lee’s daughter, Leslie Yip and her husband. The couple readied a scrumptious dinner to welcome Steven. 　　

While in Toronto, the tragic killing of Hong Kong residents in the Philippines occurred; Steven together with the locals followed the news closely. Wherever there was tv reporting on the incident, they would all pay close attention to the news. They were all very shocked, upset and angered by the tragedy. Steven posted 6 entries on his weibo to express his sadness and dissatisfaction.

During his performances on the stage, Steven dedicated the song, “Don't hold back love",《愛是不保留》to express both his and his audience’s condolences to the victims, and to convey their best wishes to the survivors and the victims’ families. He hoped that victims’ families will one day walk out from their trauma of pains and sufferings onto a new chapter of their lives.

2010.8.1.Fans sending off Steven at Sydney Airport tudou link

Went to lunch with friend, after which went down to ground floor and happened upon Steven in the abalone/seafood store buying abalone. Said to friend that today is a lucky day, should buy lotto. After some hesitation, decided to approach Steven. Asked if he would give me 7 numbers. Steven was taken aback. “What 7 numbers?" I guess he must have thought I was asking for his phone numbers. My friend said 7 numbers to buy lotto. Steven was totally ‘defeated’, turned to Hillman and other staff and said “They are asking me for numbers to buy lotto!” And they all laughed.

Putting on a righteous face, Steven said sternly: “No way, I can’t be an enabler of long term gambling ma.”
But then after a while, he relented: Ok, I’ll give you one number, 26.”
I quipped: "Your birthday bor."
He said: How did you know?
I said: Haha! Of course, I know lo. 10.26 ma. :loool:

At the airport, Steven asks the fans who among them leaked the news about him buying abalone and saying Steven is so rich to have spent so much money on it. Luckily for the culprit, she was not among them.  Haha!  in my previous post I intentionally omitted the total amount Steven paid for the abalone (the blogger had disclosed that info on her post) I thought I'll give Steven that privacy. The blogger was the very same person who wrote with relish about them requesting Steven for lucky numbers.

During afternoon tea, saw Xiao Xuan Zi ~~ so handsome and low key. (note: Xiao Xuan Zi = character in DOMD)  Saw him when having afternoon tea, saw him walked inconspicuously into the restaurant; not many people noticed him. Super handsome, and looks very young; looks at most 28 years old, not at all like someone approaching 40. Not snobbish at all. When departing, he smiled and waved in acknowledgment at those who recognized him. Took a snapshot but it didn't turn out well because the whole encounter was too sudden.

Aimee Chan's Chances Slipping at MCI 2007
The 2007 Miss Chinese International Pageant will be taking place on Saturday in Foshan and the twenty-one contestants met the judges for the first time yesterday. The panel will include TVB artistes Charmaine Sheh, Steven Ma, Sonija Kwok and Roger Kwok. They all say that they will not show any favouritism towards the Hong Kong representative Aimee Chan and will score fairly.

The girls have returned to Hong Kong after their promotional tour of Foshan and Aimee seemed rather tired at the meeting, that may have lost her some points with the judges. She says that she is very robust and she is not nervous and she is becoming more and more excited as the event draws near. The contestants have all been busy rehearsing and trying their costumes, hoping to give a great show and Aimee will also be catching up on some sleep over the next few days. Does she feel she is at an advantage as the Hong Kong representative? She says that although she worked with Roger on location when she took part in Miss Hong Kong, she does not feel that this will benefit her. Melbourne's Jenifer Jiang is the youngest contestant this year at only 18 years old, but she says she has no pressure and is having a lot of fun. She says that everyone else are like big sisters and there is no-one picking on her.

This is the first time that Charmaine has been a judge at a beauty pageant and she had a chat with each of the contestants at the press event. She says that she is interested in the level of knowledge that the contestants have on Chinese Culture and she says that to be themselves is already enough because to be natural is the most beautiful. However, Charmaine did not reveal her favourites because this is unfair and she just said that she will judge fairly and seriously and will show no favouritism. Sonija felt the girls had great figures and asked if she felt that Aimee seemed a little lacklustre, she says that a lot of it is down to your own drive and determination. When she took part in MCI, she was unwell, but she still managed to win the award and the hard work paid off. She also says that she will not give extra points to the Hong Kong representative because she has to be fair.

Steven says frankly that he will be able to watch the pretty girls openly and although he offered his hand to shake with Aimee, he insists that he will not be so generous with his points. He feels that the most important thing about MCI is for the contestants to learn a little more about China and to not even know when the country was formed is unacceptable. He prefers the contestants that look 'traditionally Chinese'. Of course, to look tidy is also important. Roger worked with Aimee in Korea during the Miss Hong Kong pageant, so he has a deeper impression of her, but he will not be biased.

The MC's for the show will be Eric Tsang and Derek Li. Singing star Eric Moo will also be the guest MC. When Derek was introducing the contestants onto the stage, he caused a few laughs when he introduced Number 12 Sarah Song from Sydney as 'number 12 contender'. With jokes that he was no good, he said humbly: "I am the worst, the girls and the judges are the best."

馬浚偉、佘詩曼、郭晉安、郭羨妮昨日以「2007年度國際中華小姐競選」的評判身份於機場富豪酒店與21位入圍佳麗首次會晤。佳麗們和幾位評判有講有笑，爭取好的印象分。郭羨妮表示當年參選華姐的時候，曾累到病倒，說：「我仲記得當時壓力好大，仲要保持身形，所以選到都覺得自己好犀利，我都希望各位佳麗要有好好的意志力。」而阿佘表示看到佳麗們，就想起當年自己參選時所嘗試的東西，還從自己的經驗中提醒佳麗們要做自己。郭晉安表示自己最注重是佳麗們的談吐，不知哪位是安仔的心水？說：「香港佳麗，因為曾經在韓國和她拍攝過外景。」　同做過「最上鏡小姐」評判的郭羨妮、阿佘和安仔均表示佳麗們的身材都很好。

馬仔準備難題考佳麗
　而馬仔更主動和2號的香港佳麗陳茵媺握手，問馬仔是否對她感覺特別親切，馬仔表示：「其實我都有同其他女仔握手，因為自己英文『水皮』，一直以為要用國語和他們溝通，講廣東話的感覺會親切點。」馬仔還直言自己喜歡很有中國味道和中華氣質的女性，說：「如果有識中國歷史的就更加好，我自己都諗有關中國歷史的問題考佢。」
　
　另外，剛從內地回來的2號佳麗陳茵微看起來非常疲憊，問到是否睡眠不足？她說：「可能最近工作太忙碌。我會盡量爭取多點時間休息。（緊張否？）唔緊張！反而有興奮，最近個個都咁努力練習，迎接比賽當日，我好希望可以當晚有出色表現。」

[2007-01-16] 中華小姐首晤評判 阿佘馬仔注重中國文化
「2007年度國際中華小姐競選」將於本周六假佛山市中心組團新城區佛山新聞中心隆重舉行。來自世界各地城市的二十一位候選佳麗昨日首次會晤大會評判，包括佘詩曼、馬浚偉、郭羨妮、郭晉安及中國著名畫家及佛山電視台藝術指導陳永鏘，大會司儀則由曾志偉和李浩林擔任，而巫啟賢亦首次出任嘉賓司儀。
　剛完成佛山宣傳活動返港，香港代表陳茵媺明顯露出疲態，但她仍否認不捱得，也不擔心首晤評判留下不好印象。距離選舉日子逐漸逼近，陳茵媺稱不緊張，反而還很興奮，近日各佳麗努力排舞及試衫，希望令個騷好睇，這幾日她亦盡量爭取睡眠時間。
安仔羨妮不偏心
　佘詩曼初次擔任選美大會評判，於記者會後將與各佳麗逐一傾談，她會著重佳麗對中國文化的認識，給予佳麗的心得，最重要是做好已足夠了，始終自然是最靚的。不過阿佘被問到心水佳麗，她卻以公平為由婉拒透露，只強調對任何一位佳麗亦以嚴謹態度去評審，絕不偏私。郭羨妮首次跟佳麗會面，覺得她們的身形不錯。她亦表示對香港佳麗不會鬆手，更自覺公正嚴明。
　馬浚偉高興能擔任選美評判，可拿正牌睇靚女。席上馬仔跟陳茵媺主動握手，他強調對陳茵薇給分不會鬆手。他覺得選國際中華小姐最重要是佳麗能認知中國，他揀選女仔亦以「很中國樣」的佳麗較喜歡，當然外表看來整齊亦相當重要。郭晉安在選港姐時曾與陳茵媺到韓國拍外景，故對她印象亦較深，不過今次就一定不會偏心，會以新的角度去看。

新浪娱乐讯 由地铁商场、德福广场、杏花新城与迪士尼于今年圣诞携手为大家呈献《迪士尼公主梦幻之旅》，其中一项瞩目精彩活动《我是小公主选举》， 12月10日更邀得杨思琦、马浚伟、王敏德、马诗慧出席在 德福广场 举行的“我是小公主选举”决赛。四位更联同地铁及迪士尼代表担任评判，这个集美丽、才艺、美德于一身的比赛，是要在十二位在12月2号初赛顺利过关的小女孩当中选出最后六强，让她们有机会参与首次于香港招生、并在明年1月于香港迪士尼乐园酒店举行的“迪士尼公主梦幻学院”的半天课程中学做小公主，学习社交舞、餐桌礼仪和化妆技巧等，让她们美梦成真，成为华丽典雅的迪士尼小公主。

马浚伟率先带领六位来自3-6岁初级组的小公主，以Catwalk 出场，过往出席过不少选美活动的马仔当然表演淡定、风度翩翩，没想到年纪轻轻的参加者亦行得有板有眼，绝不欺场。马仔更即场公开他心目中的公主需备哪些条件，与观众真情剖白。

既有小公主Catwalk ，当然不少得迪士尼星级公主杨思琦的份儿，她则即场与六位7-11岁来自高级组的小公主分享参选经验，并传授“美貌与智慧并重”的心得；思琦更“以身作则”即场示范Catwalk技巧，小公主们跟着思琦边学边做，同样仪态万千，可爱动人。

经过一轮天才表演及评判团的问答环节考验，各参赛者不单未被难倒，个个都应对如流，当中还有不少出人意表的有趣答案，令在场观众捧腹大笑！为舒缓参赛者紧张的情绪及现场紧张激烈的比赛气氛，出名是“醒目爹哋妈咪”的王敏德和马诗慧与现象观众分享他们栽培两位千金的经验之谈，而王氏大公主Kayla更不负爹哋妈咪所望，在台上即席表演芭蕾舞，Kayla相比众参加者，才华更是有过之而无不及，台下自然报以热烈掌声。
