Weibo 9/29 Cool guy?

2013-9-28 Lately, don't know why, (my) face keeps getting hurt! Even accidentally falling asleep with glasses on could also cause a wound.... the nose injury just got heal and now yet another. (sic. injury) Haha! Actually, on the other hand, this seems to accumulate yet another trace of the passing years, quite cool, eh? [偷笑][酷][酷] p.s Anyway, still have to remind you all not to fall asleep with glasses on, if eye(s) got poked, that would be bad. [ok]

TN: May I just say that I really and truly don't get Steven's self-deprecation jibe that scars make men cooler or more macho.  He is so annoyingly predictable in that whenever his body or face got hurt he would play it down with that macho cool guy jest, which is getting old.  Real men don't need scars to look cool or macho, ok? Ok![ok]

Action Scenes Rely on Mutual Trust
動作戲講互信

Many years ago when shooting "A Change of Destiny" my right eye was injured by a horse, and quite seriously, too.  And this time while shooting an action scene in "Yuan Yang Pei" (鴛鴦佩), my left eye got hurt.  Haha, one left one right, now finally a match.  Luckily this time it was not too serious, just a little bit swollen and a small cut that is now scabbed over, most probably will not leave a scar.  This is considered lucky already.

Actually, having been in this industry for many years now, getting injured while filming action scenes is inevitable.  Especially when filming ancient wuxia dramas, the injury rate is even higher.  Guns, knives, swords, staffs, face to face combat, or wire suspension etc.; even if the martial arts supervisor had beforehand implemented all the safety precautionary measures, and had also meticulously and carefully scrutinized the choreography of each and every action and movement, and had the action rehearsed numerous times prior to filming, but accident being accident will still happen; it maybe that the other party made a small mistake or that I myself miscalculate, either way one or both parties will inadvertently get hurt at any given time.

Anyway,  a collaboration with martial arts brothers has this one particular characteristic, which is, the majority of them are straight-shooters, and under the premise of mutual trust, regardless of who accidentally injured who, they will all without hesitation utter "No problem" (沒事); this kind of mindset, I truly appreciate.

News: Steven Ma's Left Eye Injured.

Despite Left Eye Injury Steven Ma Persisted Filming, Director Praises His Professionalism.
马浚伟拍戏左眼受伤 坚持拍摄被导演赞敬业
On May 20, Steven Ma while shooting a fighting scene for a mainland tv series, Yuan Yang Pei (鴛鴦佩) , in Hengdian got injured in the eye.  In the scene, he was singlehandedly fighting several martial artists when he unexpectedly got hit on the left eye with a prop hoe, the injury so painful his eye instantly teared up and shifted awry his contact lens inside his eye.  However, the on-site crew were unaware of the mishap. Meanwhile, not wanting to hinder the shooting progress, Steven, after hastily cleaning his hand with a wet wipe, dripped some eye drops into his eye to flush his contact lens, which he then removed from the eye, rinsed it with some eye solution and then put it right back on into his eye.  After a 10 minute or so break, he returned to position before the camera and was soon immersed in the scene. Later on, Director Wong Ka Fai posted a an entry on his weibo commending Steven's professionalism.

Steven expresses: "At the time, we were shooting a fighting scene. I singlehandedly had to fight with several martial artists.  In the brief chaos, one of the martial artists' prop hoe hit my left eye.  My contact lens instantly shifted awry causing the eye to tear up incessantly.  I understand it was just an accident. No one's to be blamed. Especially when shooting a fighting scene, injury is hard to avoid."

weibo eye hurt

5/28 9:20 I finally became a double lidded eyed person [偷笑]

5/28 8:53 Good morning, yesterday when engaging in some action scene, my eye accidentally got hit. Waking up today indeed it had swollen up and quite painful too. So today can't do the daytime scenes. Hopefully will be able to resume my scenes tonight. Director, fellow actors and crew and staff members, truly am sorry for the inconveniences caused. Sorry!

Poor Steven got hit in the eye (left) yesterday when doing his action scene. Good thing it wasn't the right eye again that got hurt.   His fans were there when Steven got hit on the eye but he downplayed the incident then only putting eye drops to take over the stint on the eye and continued to work and between scenes chat to his visiting fans as if nothing happened. Guess overnight the eye swelled up and pain got worse hence having to reschedule his daytime scene because of an unsightly bruised eye.

 Use Others' Experience as Reference

Earlier read the news about Carlos Ng's retina lining sudden detachment. Very worried because this could be serious problem. Only when I found out later that he was fine did I feel relieve.

Actually, besides my worry for him, there is also this feeling of having experienced the same incident myself.  Many years ago,  when shooting, a horse riding scene in "A Change of Destiny", (tn: 2006) I had an unexpected accident. At the time, I was astride a horse for a scene shot, and the horse because of a blown leaf nicking its eye reflexively reared back its head, and this backward movement smacked right onto my right eye and the right side of my face.  And so my face bones on the right side were slightly fractured, and my right eye swollen to the size of a hen's egg.  At the time, the retina was also injured.

The crystal fluid (aqueous humor) inside the eyeball was dispersed; the retina was slightly detached; the nostrils inside had accumulated blood; for now no possible surgery for treatment; the condition  had to get well on itself.  But if the flashes in the right eye suddenly increased,  go immediately to the emergency room.... This is what the doctor said to me at the time.

After some many years, the face bones have already healed, the right eye besides the eyeball being slightly indented and seeing occasional flashes, basically suffered no after effects.

Through Carlos and my experiences, I want to remind everybody to carefully protect that fragile window of the soul.  Of course, the same to all parts of the body after all having a healthy whole body is not to be taken for granted.

Steven Ma is currently filming an ancient TVB series, Pu Songling. A few days ago he hurt his arm, and now he almost became blind. At the time, Ma Zai was lying on the bed pretending to be a corpse. The hot wax from the candle inside the 7-star lantern hanging above the bed he was lying on unexpectedly dripped onto his right eye. Fortunately, his eyes were closed, thus preventing the wax drip from getting into his eye. But the pain jolted him bolt upright on the bed, his eyelid instantly turned red.

He expressed his right eye is beset by disasters. A few years back, his right eye was injured while filming another series. He joked that after the eye injury, he was later awarded “My most favorite male character”. So this time, is the accident an omen to winning another award?

He quipped: “If had to be blinded or hurt before getting an award, that would be terrible.

“Luckily my eyes weren’t open then, else the hot wax on my eye would have had melted the contact lens inside. Then would have to rush to the hospital because the eye could be blinded anytime.”

When recalling his injuries, Steven still seemed slightly shaken. He said he seemed fraught with injuries making this series; first he bumped his head, then hurt his hand and now almost lost his sight. He joked that his body has no one piece of good flesh left.

TN: Like always, Steven always played down his injuries with jokes.

Pu Songling wrapped up production – Steven Ma’s BBQ dinner treat.
Pu Songling lead by Steven Ma, Linda Chung and Fala Chen has just recently wrapped up it production. The night before, Ma Zai treated the cast and crew to a bbq dinner. But the two female leads, Linda Chung and Fala Chen could not make it because they were not in town. Linda is in Canada, while Fala is working in Macao. Cast members who attended included: 龔嘉欣、李思欣、袁偉豪 and several crew members.

Prior, while shooting a scene climbing a tree, Ma Zai accidentally injured his right arm, which is why his arm was bandaged. When queried about the missing female lead stars, he said: “Linda's in Canada; Fala's in Macao, so both couldn’t come tonight. Since I’ll be leaving for Canada myself in a few days’ time, we won’t be able to get together for another end-of-production celebratory dinner, that’s why we’re having it tonight. Even though Ngo Wah has left for Canada already, he has earlier on contributed $3000 towards the lucky draws. Such a nice guy! Also, Ba Yin jie provided the red wine.”

When this reporter queried Ma Zai on his bandaged right arm, he revealed that his arm was injured 2 weeks ago when filming a tree climbing scene. “Master Mak Ling Ling has precautioned me that my limbs will suffer injuries this year. But even though my arm is hurt, I still could not resist playing badminton. I love paying it too much. And now my arm still hurts from playing it. From now on, I’d better rest it.”

Steven wears jade to ward off evil spirits.
Steven attended the Sits promo with his hand bandaged. He expressed that he was hurt during the shooting of Pu Songling. “Recently had been very unlucky. First, my head got hit, and then my eye got hurt. The producer said that making ghosts and gods (supernatural) series will provoke the evil spirits, so suggest I wear jade to ward them off. But I'm not superstitious so didn't wear any.”

Steven hopes his injury (hand) will heal soon because next week he will be in Sabah for a promo function, and while there, will participate in a badminton competition. As for Sits' ratings, Steven said they fell between his expectation of 27-28 points.

TN: The title is so misleading it boggles my mind.
Steven specifically says he doesn’t believe jade will ward off evil spirits, yet the title says otherwise.

~~~~~TV interview snippet paraphrase~~~~
Bad luck comes in three’s for Steven
Synopsis of Steven's interview: He was asked about his bandaged right arm. He explains he hurt his arm while shooting a scene in PSL. Trying to act cool (瀟灑 xiu sa), he stepped onto Lin Chun's hand, leaped and reached for the branch with his hand to pull himself up onto the tree. The act was performed successfully, but several 'takes' were needed before the act was accepted. In one of them, his hand slipped while holding onto the branch, inadvertently straining it. The pain was minor until he played badminton the next day when it worsened.
Trouble does not come alone. Besides injuries with his head and right arm, his right eye was hurt too. In another PSL scene, he was lying on a bed beneath an over-hanging 7-star candle lamp. Unbeknownst to him and others, the candle had been melted down to complete wax. The melted wax slipped and plopped onto a huge area around his eye, promptly scalding him. He yelped in pain, and bolted upright. Luckily he had his eyes closed then. He dared not opened them until the wax cooled down and hardened. Only then, did he gingerly peel off the wax blob from his eye. It was such a freaky incident, and once again happened to his right eye.
Injury Blessing Occasion !
傷喜臨門!
2006-11-15 18:26
Hi everybody, I’m home!
This November is truly unforgettable to me. What an “Injury Blessing Occasion” month. (Playing on the Chinese idiom “Double Blessings’ 双喜临门) But first, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your support and concern.  Thank you so very much, truly!
Did over a decade of filming; countless horseback riding scenes; too many to count!
I’d never been afraid of horses, or horseback riding, but of this kind of accident, it’s the first!
I remember when the accident happened, I was astride the horse. Heard the word, “action”, acting began. Suddenly, the horse flung back its head, and smacked hard onto the right side of my face. Instant darkness before my eyes. Now that I think back, I believe I must have passed out for about 3-5 seconds, for when I came to my senses, I found my hand pressed against my face. Excruciating pain followed. I remember saying these words, “I can’t hold on,” and proceeded to slip off the horse. Luckily, someone broke my fall and held on to me. (Later, I found out it was the director, my good friend, Sham Zai.) The crew hastily rushed me to the hospital.
Enroute to the hospital, I kept thinking: “Will I lose my right eye? What am I going to do if this eye can’t see?”
Then I thought: If I I’m blind in one eye, can I still act?
And I thought some more: Tomorrow is the award ceremony, how can I attend?
A plethora of questions flooded my mind!
The later details, I’m sure you all know from the media reports!
November 11th – the day of TVB Awards Ceremony; a milestone day in my acting career!
I, sporting an eye patch, accepted “My Most Favorite TV Male Character” award!
The news reported that I was ‘swallowing blood’ throughout the awards night, and ‘swallowing blood’ when receiving the award. They were all true!
Reported that my eyeball dropped 2 mm, that was true, too!
Reported that I was so happy I forgot my eye injury!
When I received my award, I was truly happy, so happy that I forgot many things!
I forgot…
That night, I actually used up 30 plus tissue packages! Don’t get the wrong idea, they were not for wiping tears, they’re for spitting out blood… a bit bloody..hehee. But it’s the truth, so pardon me!
I forgot….
When I accepted the award, I forgot to thank my family, my friends, and ….those who have been quietly and continuously supported me – all of you!
What’s more, I forgot …
To thank the bigger than life persona who had made it possible for my receiving this award ----Shang Zhi.
Not sure what else I forgot; well, to all those ‘forgots’, I would like to say: ‘sorry’ and ‘thank you’.
Well, I will now update on the condition of my eye injury.
My eye has become less swollen. The bloody dripping through the nose has all but gone. But because of a line fracture on the right side of my face, the eyeball has sunk slightly; but outwardly, it can’t be detected, therefore my looks is not affected; which means, I look the same as before. As for eye sight, because the flesh around the eye socket is still swollen, I have double visions when looking at certain angles. But, don’t you all worry, doctor says with some rest to avoid re-injury, the condition will get better.
Come early December, I will start shooting a new series!
This series centers around social dancing, a fresh idea! In the series, I will try out many new stuff, you all will like it!
Once again, thank you all for your concern, and am grateful for your support!
I will continue to work hard!!
news 2006 [谁在走红?] 马浚伟扬眉吐气
马浚伟获“我最喜爱的电视男主角奖”
source 2006 Nov 18 15:38 羊城晚报.记者陈明辉
当年,因为一句宣传口号:“他不是黎明,他不是学友”,引起歌迷反感,让马浚伟一出道就尝尽被喝倒彩的辛酸滋味。13年后的今天,他终于凭《铁血保镖》“尚智”一角,成为无线“我最喜爱的电视男角色”。
  不知不觉,马浚伟已经在香港娱乐圈闯荡了13年。因为凭《铁血保镖》“尚智”一角在无线“万千星辉颁奖礼”上获得“我最喜爱的电视男角色”,加上拍新戏《天机算》受伤成了“独眼龙”,让马浚伟再一次成为城中话题人物。接受记者电话采访时,马浚伟表示,《铁血保镖》在自己的演艺生涯里意义重大,一是在不被看好的情况下拿奖,有“扬眉吐气”的感觉;二是通过这部剧,感觉自己演戏终于“开窍”了。马浚伟又大方谈到曾经传出“不和”的郭羡妮:“我们能够在《汇通天下》里一起拍戏,就表示没事了,一切以和为贵。”
  ●初出道遭遇“嘘”声
  马浚伟1993年以歌手身份出道,道路却走得非常坎坷。“当年我本来在年末的颁奖典礼上很有机会获得新人奖,但就因为所属公司安排给我的一句宣传口号:‘他不是黎明,他不是学友’,引起歌迷的反感,让我被喝倒彩。记得我第一次走秀是在尖东东急百货,当时有王馨平、黎明、吕方和我。因为有黎明在,我一出场便嘘声四起。我硬撑着把歌唱完,眼睛里已充满泪水。后来我躲在房间里哭,心情难过透顶,最后忍不住跑到酒吧灌了一通啤酒,低着头小声哭,怕被人看见。”
  从此之后的两三年里,马浚伟几乎每次出场迎来的都是嘘声。“我信心尽失,甚至在上舞台时腿也站不稳。后来华纳宣布不与我续约时,我把心一横,就准备退出娱乐圈了。”所幸的是,这时马浚伟的“伯乐”出现了,她就是马浚伟在刚刚获得“我最喜爱的电视男角色”奖时开口第一个感谢的人———“无线”高层曾励珍。“她在1995年起用我演《壹号皇庭IV》,我知道那是我的转折点。我要多谢珍姐的栽培,没有她的赏识,马浚伟早已从娱乐圈销声匿迹。”
  《鹿鼎记》和《妙手仁心》进一步提升了马浚伟的人气。他说:“当年我演《鹿鼎记》时不被看好,因为珠玉在前(刘德华演过康熙),试造型时还有记者讥讽我‘穿起龙袍也不像太子’。不过我不介意,这是个好角色,让大家进一步接受了我。到了1998年演出《妙手仁心》,可以说彻底扭转了我原本不讨好的形象,有观众还寄信给我,赞我演医生形神俱备。我很高兴,但我没有自满,因为别的新人从零开始,而我却是从‘负十’出发。”
  ●拍《铁血》演戏开窍
  2004年,马浚伟把主要精力放在内地拍剧,去年6月才“回巢”无线。娱乐圈很现实,离开香港一段时间,许多人开始质疑马浚伟的号召力。他回到无线演的第一部剧《铁血保镖》也只是小制作,没想到竟为马浚伟赢得了荣誉。“简直是吐气扬眉!”马浚伟难掩兴奋之情。
  马浚伟说,获奖并不是他一个人的功劳,要感谢戏中“会友镖局”全体人员,“尤其是郭峰和黎耀祥,他们真的是好戏之人,和他们拍对手戏让我学会了很多。从这部剧开始,我觉得自己演戏‘开窍’了”。
  11月10日上台领奖时,马浚伟的一只眼睛用纱布包着,成了“独眼龙”。原来,他在11月9日拍摄《天机算》时被马撞伤了。“当时拍一场骑马戏,我坐在马背上,工作人员用吹风机将落叶吹起来营造效果,不料马匹因此受惊,猛地扬起前蹄,马头撞到了我的脸上。我只觉眼前一黑,短暂失去了知觉,回复知觉时发现自己还在马背上,但是在慢慢往下滑,而且感到右脸奇痛,右眼睁不开。我大叫:‘不行了!不行了!’导演立即冲过来接住我,然后火速送我到医院。”
  马浚伟形容一辈子都没试过这么痛,“在车上我开始胡思乱想:惨了,右眼会不会没了?以后看不到东西怎么办?我又想,如果一只眼看不到东西,还能拍戏吗?我再想,明天颁奖典礼,我怎么出席呀?”经过医生诊断,马浚伟眼窝肌肉组织肿胀,眼球下陷2毫米,右脸颊脸骨出现骨裂,“算是比较严重的伤了,医生建议我住院,但是我还是坚持去了颁奖礼。其实当时很辛苦,因为脸骨出现了裂痕,被撞击后产生的淤血通过裂痕渗入口腔,于是我开始吐血,好像粤语残片里的情形一样,不停地吐在纸巾上,当晚颁奖前就用了将近30包纸巾,很夸张吧?不过医生说是好事,淤血积在里面才麻烦。”因为怕在脸上留疤,医生不建议他动手术,而是让那条裂缝慢慢自然愈合。幸运的是,眼睛的视力也没太大影响,就是有时候看东西会出现“叠影”,不过过段时间就没事了。
  ●与郭羡妮已和解
  数年前,有传闻指马浚伟与郭羡妮拍拖,郭羡妮随即公开数落是马浚伟为了炒作在“编故事”。两人从此反目,还发誓老死不相往来。事过境迁,两人在早前播出的《汇通天下》里聚首,这是不是意味着两人已冰释前嫌?马浚伟淡淡地说:“我们只是同事,工作以外没有联络。不过我们没有矛盾,既然能在片场一起工作,就表示没有什么过节了,有问题还能拍好戏吗?大家都是成年人,懂得怎样去处理,总之一切以和为贵。”
  在《汇通天下》的宣传活动上,郭羡妮还主动和马浚伟合照。但马浚伟坦言并没有完全忘记过去的事:“我明白,男人不能太小气。但我比较有原则,有些事需要用时间来克服。那时不是说我‘粘’着她吗?如果我先跟她打招呼,肯定又被人说我‘追’她。那次跟她拍了一张合照,我想可以终结这件事了,但我只会拍一张而已。”
news 2006: Steven Ma Injured Eye on ' Destiny of Change' set
source 20006 nov 10
2006 Nov 8th 2 pm. Steven Ma injured his right eye while filming a horseback shooting with swirling floating leaves scene for TVB series, "Destiny of Change"《天机算》 in Yun Long.  He said at the time he was straddled on top of the horse, while the crew blowing up the leaves with a leave blower to effect a a billowing leaves scene when spooked by the swirling leaves at its front hooves, the horse suddenly flung back its head and hit Steven smack on the right side of his face.  So excruciating the pain, he instinctively yelped out loud in pain. He felt a brief dizziness, the right side of his face swelled up, and he also suffered whiplash. He said he had never felt such excruciating pain before.
His colleagues immediately sent him the to the hospital for examination. Fortunately, the x-rays showed no noticeable bone fractures, only bruised muscles.
Yesterday, Steven was at home resting. Later on, he would go see a Chinese medicine practitioner. The series producer Tsui Yu On was worried over this accident, and TVB manager had visited Steven at the hospital.
