News: Steven Ma picks series with script as priority
Steven Ma, Wu Ma, and the female lead, Zhang Meng, and Taiwan actor, Huang Shao Qi et al, earlier on held a blessing ceremony for their new series at Hengdian.
Steven Ma (Ma Jai) previously flew over to Hengdian to film his new mainland tv series. Because the troupe's makeover designer, Bobo Ng, is very serious in her work, it makes Steven even more serious. During the costumes tryout session, Steven repeatedly tried out various makeover looks. On that day alone, just going through the clothes had already set the record for the most clothes Steven had ever tried out. Moreover, this is Steven's first time to portray two characters in a series. To give a fresh look to his characters, one of them will go through numerous change of costumes while the other dons a watermelon shape wig. (per Steven self-deprecation description) and also have his legs and hands cosmetically tan. On that day, Director Wong Ka Fai (Wong Yue Tai's brother) and Bobo Ng meticulously assessed Steven from head to toe making the latter, an old timer in the industry who has been exposed to all things big and small, couldn't help but raised his thumb in admiration for their work attitudes.
Steven expressed what took him by surprise was the stir caused by his watermelon head right from the very start in the make-up room. Interspersed with repeated comments of his cuteness were also admiration sighs of many women: "Ma Jai not only seems to have taken a preservation pill but has practically reversed his age. " Bobo Ng also laughed and said: "I've not seen how Ma Jai looked like decade's ago, but I've watched his decade old series so I can sort of remember how his head looked like; during the makeover, his image stored in my memory and the present him are the same. Actually, I only got to know Ma Jai last year. I had to makeover two different characters so I paid extra attention to the hairstyle and the skin color to reflect the different economic, academic and family backgrounds."
Wong Ka Fai Praises Acting Skill More Mature
Director Wong Ka Fai, who has once collaborated with Steven in a movie (tn: 2000: When a Man Loves a Woman), is currently once again collaborating with him said: "After so many years, of course there is a difference which is: the acting is more mature, more seasoned, and more refined, it flows straight from the heart, and his control of rhythm is more masterful. This series though is not recorded on site but will be dubbed after filming, his intonation, nevertheless, was well modulated; not only did he spur his partner into character but also helped those present in the scene to get into theirs."
Steven expressed that he thoroughly enjoyed analyzing this new series with the mainland female lead, Zhang Meng, Taiwan actor, Huang Shao Qi and Director Wong Ka Fai. He said: "Bobo jeh and all the cast and crew members, we all work together harmoniously. Very quickly we developed a mutual tacit understanding, much like a big family, all just wanting to film a good series. After work, all the cast member got together for dinner to improve our relationship."
Allegedly, TVB is presently lacking siu sang and executive Catherine Tsang has offered a high price of 80,000 HKD per episode to entice Steven to return to his maternal home to film series. But it is also rumored that Ricky Wong offered even a higher price. So which one will Steven choose? Steven said candidly: "Currently I don't have a contract with any tv station yet. Currently, I'm a freelancer. For now, I just want to do a good job with this series first. So which tv station in Hong Kong will I collaborate? I feel that any one of them is possible. All depends on fate! Anyway, if the script is good, the character is good and the fee is reasonable, all can be considered. I have an open attitude to any possible future collaborator. Of course, my gratitude for TVB will not changed. Maternal home will always be maternal home, as to what form of collaboration? That will depend on fate."

Steven's contract with TVB has ended but TVB is currently undergoing a scarcity of actors, so how could TVB let this General Fortune blithely walk away? FBI heard that TVB had mobilized its top executive, Catherine Tsang, to solicit Steven for help. And even enticed him with a sky-high fee of 80,000 hkd per episode. As for Ricky Wong camp, they continue to talk incessantly to him, putting Steven on a fence. All this while, Steven has had no fate with "TV King", so the most he would do is sign a per contract series with TVB, so Ricky Wong may still have a chance.

MSC spent own money for DGD celebratory dinner, not depend on TVB, Steven Ma enabled
Left the nest, Steven Ma's new series garnered high ratings but TVB had zero response
Steven Ma and Miu Siu Ching's series, Daddy Good Deeds, aired its finale last night. The series, Daddy Good Deeds starring Ha Yu, Steven Ma, Linda Chung, Evergreen Mak and Nancy Wu despite airing in the Easter holidays cannon fodder timeslot had garnered high ratings since its premier. Per TVB customary practice, for all series breaking the average rating of 30 points mark, TVB will especially arrange a large scale activity on its finale night to hype up the series. But this time TVB did not show any indication of arranging such an activity despite DGD's good ratings probably because Miu Siu Ching and Steven Ma are no longer TVB employees.
So, Miu Siu Ching paid out of pocket for a three-table dinner to reward her cast and crew. Except for Linda Chung who was still in Canada, other artists including Ha Yu, Nancy Wu, Cilla Kung and Evergreen Mak all attended without fear to celebrate with Miu Siu Ching and Steven Ma.They all took turns hugging Miu Siu Ching a hug, moving her to tears.
Steven expressed that he especially rescheduled his trip to Shenzhen so that he could attend the celebratory dinner because he had gone through 3 battles alongside Miu Siu Ching and getting good results in all three. He said: "The first time was Ultra Protection against "Huan Zhu Ge Ge 2", the 2nd time was "Where the Legend Begins" against World Cup, and this time was against Easter holidays cannon fodder timeslot. I'm not a tvb actor anymore, so hopefully after venturing outside I can still have a change to collaborate with Siu Ching jie again. " He revealed that the next half year he would be in mainland filming series, therefore will consider buying a property in Beijing.
Also, Ha Yu was asked if he was scared that TVB might come after him? He jested: "Not scared. I've deleted both Steven Ma's and Miu Siu Ching's phone numbers to show my innocence."

Steven Ma emanating a young master's quality, at first sight, gave an impression of being born into an affluent family and also of being a returned overseas student entering the entertainment industry as an artist. Being repeatedly mistaken as such at the time, Steven promptly clarified his background and even made it a point to reveal he was actually an estate housing resident, that while still in his teens he had already held a job to help out his family's financial situation, and at the same time also had to take care of his cancer mother, and that his mother's passing away so pained him that he fell into depression. Fortunately, relying on sports he was able to release the pent-up negative energy and walk out of the gloomy haze.
When I was young I spent most of my time at home caring for my nasopharyngeal cancer mother, and seldom went out to play... I actually did not have those wild and reckless years! It was not until 1999 that my mother passed away, at the time I was doing promotion for Ultra Protection. I was devastated, went a bit crazy even, (shotshot dei tim) ..my mother's death was a big blow, and I got very depressed. At that time, I was diagnosed having depression by the doctor and needed to take medicine timely.
Rejuvenation
During that period, my friends around me were aware of my erratic moods, at the time I did not have any religious belief yet, so I used work to tranquilize myself, and later even began to take up sports such as: table tennis and badminton. Sports can expunge negative energy. Recently, my group of friends feel that I have become rejuvenated, the whole of me have become more sunshine!
Precursor of homebody males
Truth be told, my mother in the end passed away, that did lighten my burden because during my growth in those 22 years, I took care of my mother for a prolonged period. During that period besides filming I would be home. I seldom ate out. My personality did lean toward self-withdrawal so I dubbed myself the 'precursor to homebody males' ! And my father was the sole breadwinner. He drove a bus as a means to raise our family of seven. Though we did not lack for money we were no wealthy family. But many people thought I was a returned overseas student when in fact I was an estate housing resident. I was 14 years old in a job selling ice cream. The former Miss Hong Kong, Michelle Lee and Sheila Chan had all seen me. --The end--
Afterthought - open up your heart
Steven claimed himself self-withdrawn, although that was in his earlier years. This writer through this interaction found him to be an easy and good conversationalist. Steven Ma: Whenever Zhan Jie Saw Me, She would Scold Me, I was Hurt!
Steven Ma, from a nameless nobody to today's first line siu sang, the whole process with its twists and turns has been most arduous. However, among those six mentors or bo lok he spoke of, who at different phase had given him much help, Catherine Tsang who loved (sek) him was actually also the one who scolded him the harshest!
The first person who turned my life around was a singing teacher, Leung Yue Ling. In 1993 I competed in the 3rd Pioneer Laser Karaoke Singing Competition; Tai Si Chung was the chief judge. When I won the competition, Teacher Tai arranged for me to join a record company. During that time, I truly transformed from a housing estate resident to a singer. After entering the industry, I was most grateful to have met Paco Wong (黄柏高), but I feel that I had let him down because at the time I had had the opportunity to sing a duet with Sally Yip, and Paco had secured Mark Lui as the producer for my albums, but unfortunately at that time I was still 'unformed' therefore did not handle it well. Earlier, I partook a meal with Paco and the past was brought up, he said:"Those days you did not fully release your latent potential! But nowadays you are a first line siu sang leading in many series, so that's good!" I was moved by his words.
Record Company Wouldn't Renew Contract
My 3rd record released in 1995 did not generate a good result so the record company would not renew my contract. I was prepared to leave the music industry and resumed my past job as a 'plastic' salesman. But then at the pivotal point, Zhan Jie (TVB Director of Production, Catherine Tsang) told me to go for a screen test that landed me the role of Emperor Kangxi in the series, Duke of Mt. Deer 1998, which successfully transformed me into a TV actor. Though many people knew Zhan Jie loved (sek) me but unknown to them, whenever she saw me she would scold me. I was quite hurt inside, actually! When I was a youngster I accidentally chipped the front tooth and it was not untilI became a singer when Teacher Dai suggested to get it fixed. Although the outward appearance had improved it inadvertently affected my speech making me speak quite unnaturally. Watching my series performance, Zhan Jie noticed that. She dragged me to face a mirror, all the time scolding me: "If you can't change that then quit la!" I knew it was because she cared about me so wanted me to improve; this indebtedness (恩情) is indelibly imprinted in my heart!
And there are two more to thank: Stephan Chan (TVB former General Manager) and Tsui Jie (Tsui Rong Rong, a former news journalist) . These two have also played a pivotal part in my acting career.

Despite his dissatisfaction accumulated over the years, his attitude was to 'live and let live' using only " did not click' to explain his departure from his maternal home, and even points out that this temporary separation from TVB is a good thing.
My relationship with TVB all along has always been fine. I can say with confidence that throughout these 18, 19 years, I did not have many grievances nor did I complaint much. Whatever tasks were given me I did them all to the best of my ability for the company. But ultimately it all comes down to interpersonal affinity. Indeed, my collaboration with the artists management department did not work out well. It maybe that all these years I got into the habit of not speaking out so may not have clearly express what I wanted, so to certain extent, I have to bear some responsibility. Anyway, because of that, I accumulated 6, 7 years of dissatisfaction.
Cherish Old Times but Also Know Oneself
View from a different angle, what's wrong with the artists management department?
It's not convenient for me to say. Since I choose to leave the company, differences of opinions do exist. So it would be better to just cheerfully, happily and amiably end the contract.
How come there could be no reconsideration?
It's tough to explain the details one by one. Moreover, there's no need to. But I can say this, whether I could or not accept LOTYEF I would still request the termination of my contract. Because there was just too much stuff being accumulated over the years that made me disheartened with TVB. Else, why would I give up on such a safe and stable tv station? It is precisely because I have deep feelings for TVB, frankly speaking... I like TVB a lot. I dare to describe myself as nostalgic group (念舊一類) but in the end I had to respect my own feelings. Today's temporary parting (TVB) might turn out to be a good thing.
Weak Affinity With Ms. Lok
Want me to describe my relationship with Ms. Lok? Honestly, I've had only few contacts with her. During the lighting ceremony night, people were pulling us all to take pictures. At the time because of the news on my discontentment, the situation was perhaps a bit sensitive but it was fine with me. However, that time the reporter came over requesting to take pictures and asking Ms. Lok to take pictures with me but at that time Ms. Lok was taking pictures with other actresses. And then the public relation official came over to drag me over to take pictures for the poster, and Zhan Jie (Catherine Tsang) thinking that I needed to rush over to the shooting studio told me to leave. Everybody rushing over to grab me so I blurted out: "How come suddenly I became so busy?" Anyway, the upshot is that I did not get to take pictures with Ms. Lok. At that moment, I did not wonder if other people were trying to help me ease the situation. But if we did not do anything wrong, there's no need to be awkward! (see weibo)
Let bygones be bygones. One's conduct has to get past others and oneself. I'll not have my words put Ms. Lok in a difficult position. Anyway, there's no need. Since we have weak affinity so be it. Moreover, for the time being, I won't come into contact with her through work. Even if have to discuss the contract I'm not worried. If the company care for me they should understand. (what to do)

Weak Affinity With Ms. Lok
Want me to describe my relationship with Ms. Lok? Honestly, I've had only few contacts with her. During the lighting ceremony night, people were pulling us all to take pictures. At the time because of the news on my discontentment, the situation was perhaps a bit sensitive but it was fine with me. However, that time the reporter came over requesting to take pictures and asking Ms. Lok to take pictures with me but at that time Ms. Lok was taking pictures with other actresses. And then the public relation official came over to drag me over to take pictures for the poster, and Zhan Jie (Catherine Tsang) thinking that I needed to rush over to the shooting studio told me to leave. Everybody rushing over to grab me so I blurted out: "How come suddenly I became so busy?" Anyway, the upshot is that I did not get to take pictures with Ms. Lok. At that moment, I did not wonder if other people were trying to help me ease the situation. But if we did not do anything wrong, there's no need to be awkward! (see weibo)
Let bygones be bygones. One's conduct has to get past others and oneself. I'll not have my words put Ms. Lok in a difficult position. Anyway, there's no need. Since we have weak affinity so be it. Moreover, for the time being, I won't come into contact with her through work. Even if have to discuss the contract I'm not worried. If the company care for me they should understand. (what to do)

Steven Ma: Mainland China tv series have high standard

With the filming of 'Legend of the Yuan Dynasty Founder' behind him, Steven Ma, having earlier terminated his TVB management contract prematurely, now as a freelancer has accepted as his first job a 25-episode mainland series that paid him 3.5 million yuan.
Although Steven derives much satisfaction from earning his 'first pot of gold' in mainland, he asserts that earning money is not the most satisfying yet, what's most satisfying to him is that he can become among the valued artists in the recent Hong Kong television war.
Actually filming 'LOTYEF' has broadened my horizon. Siu Ming gor (Director Tsui Siu Ming) filmed the series with a movie feel to it, very meticulously done. A few years ago per TVB arrangement I participated in a mainland series but that was long time ago. Nowadays, the tv series with mainland investments are an eye opener for me. The investment for LOTYEF itself was 150 (sic. Steven said 120 mil not 150 mil as reported in this article) million yuan. My participation has given me a good experience, and a good start to my venture into mainland.
Since regaining my freedom, my first series, a pre-modern drama, is one that I picked on my own. In the series, I officially became a lead actor (in mainland). The role requires a person to portray two characters; there's lots of room for improvisation. As an actor to be given this kind of role, I'm truly grateful. The production troupe has also invited the seasoned, award winning costumes designer, (HK and Taiwan movies golden awards) Bobo 吳寶玲 , to do my makeover. She has designed more than 10 western suits for me. (Heard your fee was 140,000 yuan per episode), actually money is not my primary consideration, for instance, if the character is not suitable or that the quality of the script is average, I may not have the courage to accept the role.
More Opportunities Therefore More Valued
As to my taking the first step to earn the so-called first pot of pot, actually the credit to TVB should not be erased because in the past TVB had also helped me find many pots of gold. But for now I want to have a bit more freedom, so I maintain only a friend relationship with the people in the industry who have previously contacted me such as Ricky (CTI Ricky Wong). Last year he had already approached me but as for our collaborating it is too early yet, however, I do appreciate his drive. And Siu Ching jie (Producer Miu Siu Ching), who has now joined NowTV, has a good relationship with me but I still have not decided. After terminating my contract with TVB, Zhan jie (TVB executive, Catherine Tsang) has had also talked to me but I want to venture outside. People say that TVB big tree provides good shade, but for me, I would like to have more flexibility for now.

Fala Chen's wish for an Older Brother is half-fulfilled
Steven Ma and Fala Chen were some of the celebrities who went to watch The Yellow Storm by Huang Lei, Qin Hailu et al sponsored by Andy Lau for 3 shows in Hong Kong Cultural Center. Turn out that Fala Chen is Huang Lei's fan so right after the show ended, she dragged along Steven Ma to go backstage to meet Huang Lei.
She was so excited to see Huang Lei and had wanted to take a
picture with him but seeing him removing his make-up at the time, she did not want to
intrude with her request. But she did get his autograph as remembrance

Steven Ma: Linda is Like My Younger Sister.
Virtues of Harmony 2
VOH2 was Linda’s first series, I thought this woman (Linda) was very pretty, and a bit shy, very well-behaved (guai) and ingenuous. During that time, I constantly had lunch with her to chitchat so that she would be more relax. I recall saying this to her: “This field is not all that complex. But opportunity always exists for something bad to happen. So in everything, one must put in efforts to learn from it. The most important thing is not to go down the wrong path. To this day, she still manages to walk the right path, and remains a good woman. (guai nui)
A Journey Called Life
She has matured, her acting skill has also improved, especially her emoting feelings has improved enormously. Our collaborations are mostly small productions, this series is no exception. The story content emulates real life's happenings. It talks about us being husband and wife. It was our second collaboration, but our real-like relationship seems to have gone a notch up, more like brother and sister. To this day, she still calls me ‘gor gor’.
A Watchdog’s Tale
We officially filmed a comedy series, laughter was constant. Also, our characters underwent a big change. I was crude and slovenly, a total uncouth man (malat zai). While she had on this short hair wig to portray a tomboy. Totally a Wu Jun lookalike. Haha! This series increased our tacit understanding of each other. I recall during the shooting, I commented that no series could possibly pose a problem to us because we already knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses so we could mutually compensate each other’s deficiency.
Ghost Writer
During this period Linda had serious insomnia, very tense all the time, and her skin was bad too. Plus the character in the series endured many grievances so that affected her moods too. Could see that it was a tough period for her. I was concerned for her. At the time, I constantly urged her to take rests, to do exercise because besides relieving stress, it can also affect the spirit. After that, we filmed our own separate series, but we still kept in touch and I knew her situation underwent a positive turnaround. During Daddy Good Deeds, she seemed much more happier. At the last (DGD promo), she told me that she do aerobics once every week to keep fit. She seems to be in good spirits. I’m happy for her, and also feel more at ease (on lok) about her.

There was this one scene that was shot at a jewelry store. During the break Linda was taken by a butterfly pendant and so for the first time in her life she bought a diamond pendant. She said she loves butterflies a lot and that whenever she sees one she would be very happy. I remember what she said, so today I especially drew a butterfly to make her happy.

Too tiring! She’s always been very anxious about her work performance; she had to film series, cut records, and film movies at the same time; always insisted in doing them all perfectly. So bringing on constant insomnia. Her mother wasn’t here in Hong Kong, so I made Ching pu leung herbal tea and watercress soup for her, and also constantly chatted with her. But the most important thing is for her to get some rest….” Linda by nature is pliant so did not dare demur when given series projects to do.
Steven entreated: “TVB really needs to re-examine her workload arrangement! Although she is a tvb managed artiste but still management needs to properly plan her workload. Piling her with a heavy workload and having her doing it all is not necessarily a good thing. She has to be able to handle it. Have to see if 'xiu pang yao' (young friend) can even breathe first? Even if she can do it, she won’t look good (leng), and her voice won’t sound good either! Sooner or later, she will be wrung dried, her health neglected.”

Linda Chung: Ma Zai Accompanied Me Through Stormy Weathers
In Virtues of Harmony 2, there were many good teachers teaching me how to act. I recall this one scene about (Michelle) Hung Bak Lam having a terminal disease so she thought of ways to make Ivan Sze Gee San (Steven Ma) leave her. When she went to the airport to send Ivan off, Steven told me to show my side profile first then slowly turn around toward him and cry, the outcome would be that much more effective. Even now I still continue using this crying method Steven taught me.
A Journey Called Life
During this period I was at low tide, also the period my homesickness was really intense. I am very grateful having Steven constantly encouraging me and showing tolerance towards me. In this series, I portrayed a wet miu. (party girl(?)) with lots of family problems. Also had a stillborn scene. The script closely relates to real life. Can be said among Steven and my collaborated works to be my most favorite and satisfied one.
A Watchdog’s Tale
This series let me see the other side of Steven. I did not expect that shod in flip-flops he could be so uncouth (ma lat) totally departed from his normal refined and polite image. And since this is a comedy, during the shooting my mood was not too heavy.
Ghost Writer
During VOH2's filming I was a rather cheerful woman, but during Ghost Writer's filming it can be said that I fell to the lowest pit. The years within the entertainment circle were like a rubber band tightening around me; it finally snapped during this period. I realized I was not suited for an entertainment lifestyle plus I didn’t have my family in Hong Kong. I was depressed. Plus I suffered constant insomnia. And had bad skin. I knew that Steven at seeing me thus was worried but did not know what to do so kept his silence, staying by my side quietly supporting me. Fortunately, now, on the whole, I have re-adapted to this lifestyle. I try to do more stuff that I enjoy. Also know how to better communicate with friends and to share my concerns, so can gradually cross over deep pits. During Daddy Good Deeds’ shooting, Steven finally saw that I had become more and more sanguine. I’m very grateful to this good brother of mine who has always stood by me and supported me.

Steven is my good brother, who has witnessed my up and down moods since I entered the industry. He has stayed by my side the whole time. Even though he has now left the company I still hope that Steven, who has not only accompanied me throughout my growth but is also a good partner who worked well with me, can return to my side to continue making more good series.

His farewell series, Daddy Good Deeds, is currently broadcasting but Steven Ma has already officially severed his 18 year employer-employee relationship with TVB, 4 months ahead leaving the nest. A few days ago, Steven Ma accepted this Yang Chen Evening News reporter's interview to talk about his feelings and his plans. When talking about the process of leaving the nest, Steven said he was not grievous instead he felt gratitude towards TVB and asserted that TVB will be his top choice in future collaboration.
Prior to DGD's broadcast, it was rumored that TVB did 'surgery' on Steven who has left the nest by cutting off his screentime on the promo trailers. However, this series gains much popularity when aired enabling Steven to present his last tvb series with a satisfactory record card.
Q: It was rumored that because you and Miu Siu Ching left the nest, TVB purposely moved up the series to an off-season timeslot?
Q: How come so few screentime on the promo trailers?
Q: Had already decided to leave the nest, so during the shooting felt all kinds of emotions?
Q: Your portrayal of Fatt Dat zai is very popular, after this, will try out more comedic roles?

S: I want to spend at least half a year in the mainland, and the same in Hong Kong. Also will do some music related stuff though won't be a professional singer but I've never given up on the music front. Also there are some mainland movie investors who approached. But I still don't know if I can adapt so will have shooting tv series as my main focus.

S: I did not expect it to air so soon but I'm not worried about ratings because many of my series also aired during Christmas holidays, Chinese New Year festival even during World Cup timeslots, the rating results were all satisfactory.

S: Because during that period I was in mainland shooting a series. TVB called me back but my schedule could not arrange it. From the promo poster can see TVB still valued me. Siu Ching jie gave me a good character to portray so I will disregard the previous discord.
Q: Had already decided to leave the nest, so during the shooting felt all kinds of emotions?
S: At the time felt a kind of release. This is my temporary farewell TVB series so especially diligent in doing every scene well, at the same time, cherished everybody around me because who knows when we'll work together again.
Q: Your portrayal of Fatt Dat zai is very popular, after this, will try out more comedic roles?
S: I mostly shoot more Qing Dynasty ancient dramas, usually those calm and steady characters. This time portraying happy Fatt Dat zai garnered quite good feedback. After the 1st episode aired when I went out to the restaurants or play badminton, many people called me "Fatt Dat zai". But I don't intent to continue to portray this kind of character. Only by tying it it occasionally will then give the audience a fresh feel.
Q: You and Linda Chung have portrayed 5 times as lovers, would you mind evaluating her?
S: Linda's first series (Virtue of Harmony 2) was with me. Like my younger sister, I see her growing up step by step, her acting skill also improves little by little. Now her acting is more and more freer. Asked her for an ugly makeover she was also willing unlike some actresses who demurred with various worries and concerns such as like disheveled hair and without shoes. I appreciate her kind of attitude.

This was the company's first time making an exception. TVB is like my alma mater.I had studied for 18 years there. Many of my classmates have already left to go elsewhere for further study, I too wish to go to mainland for study. Nowadays, the standard of mainland tv series is very high. If can expand my knowledge then can payback alma mater.
Q: Since TVB had already taken a step back, and you could go to mainland to shoot LOTYEF, how come still prematurely terminate the contract?
Actually whether I could or couldn't accept LOTYEF, I would not renew management contract with TVB because I truly find it hard to click with the artists management department. My feelings towards TVB in the future be it 10, or 20 or 30 years later. In the future, I may still collaborate with TVB in a different method.
Q: Will you sign another management contract with another company?
S: For now will not consider signing another management contract, will collaborate with different companies but will not be tied down with a management contract. Maybe will set up a small studio*, of course, if a very good management company approached me, I won't be against signing a management contract.

Q: Did you adapt to the shooting style in mainland?

Q: What's the difference between shooting in mainland vs TVB?
S: Some difference in the scheduling. In mainland, a group filming per day, in TVB will have groups filming per day. But TVB way I've already used to its for 18 years. Conversely, because mainland was too relaxing that I not used to it so at night went to play badminton.
Q:There's many mainland companies offered you large sum of money to invite you to shoot a series. What are your criteria for choosing a series?
S: First must see if the script fits me or not, whether if it is challenging or not. Of course, the fee is a consideration but what concern me is whether the fee is reasonable or not. I won't asked for sky high price. Presently, I am satisfied with my fees.
Q: Do you have series or roles you especially want to do?
S: I've acted in many ancient dramas. For now, I wish to act in more modern dramas, drama concerning drama with moral theme, especially a physically handicapped character. Society has many handicapped people but their life outlook is very optimistic and their stories very moving. I want to a challenge on this kind of character role.
Q: Heard you have intention to write, to direct and to act in series.
S: There are several investment companies who are interested in my creative work. For now I'm still learning because I did not start out as a scriptwriter so need some professional scriptwriters to help me out. As for the directing, all these years of shooting series, I also often learned on the side through observation and tips such as camera positioning, camera shots, and editing.
Q: Henceforth will focus your development in the mainland?
S: I want to spend at least half a year in the mainland, and the same in Hong Kong. Also will do some music related stuff though won't be a professional singer but I've never given up on the music front. Also there are some mainland movie investors who approached. But I still don't know if I can adapt so will have shooting tv series as my main focus.
