weibo 11/21/2014 Steven's contradictory traits

11月21日 15:00
I totally encourage everybody to exercise more to keep fit, but at the same time, I really enjoy the quietude inside an empty fitness room, so very contradictory ba, haha! 我非常鼓勵大家多做運動多健身,但又很喜歡健身室空無一人的寧靜感,很矛盾吧哈哈!

Editorial - how about a series on cyber crimes?

Talking about Steven's new tv series (if he is ever going to film one despite his reiterations of filming one soon, since like forever).  I would love to watch Steven in a drama of cyber police pitting wits against invisible cyber criminals, sans the usual overtly draggy romantic entanglement(s). Recently I just finished watching this superb 2012 Korean tv drama, Ghost/Phantom  (유령), which is purely a cyber police investigation of internet crimes drama without any romantic storyline on the side.  Highly recommended!  'Ghost' s storyline is tight, fast-paced and extremely riveting on how crimes can be so easily, invisibly and secretly perpetrated by those who are computer savvy - in other words, hackers hacking computers for nefarious schemes and agenda. Information is power!

Years ago I read the novel, The World Truth by David Baldacci, and I was totally blown away by the immense, infinite power of internet (not that I wasn't before but the book brings forth just how powerful and deadly internet can be in the wrong hands) . "Dick, I need a war." And Dick almost 'created' a war for him (a prominent wealthy greedy weapon monger) thru internet manipulations in fabricating false news/videos eagerly and swiftly spread by netizens all over the world. TVB, Starhub, Astro votings? - pfff! -  a piece of cake to manipulate with a few keystrokes via infinite created zombies/dummies IPs.

So, what kind/genre of drama would you like Steven to be in?

News 11-14 2014 Steven Ma attending a Cantonese Opera show

Last night Loong Kin Sang [龍劍笙(阿刨)] held her Cantonese opera show《任藝笙輝念濃情》in memory of her mentor Yam Kim Fai ( 任劍輝) at the HK Cultural Center. Many artistes including Liza Wang and Law Ka Ying, Teresa Cheung and her husband, and Steven Ma attended her show.

Steven says when he heard that Loong was having the opera he immediately called up the organizer (tn: Tsui YY) to get him a ticket. He says that the last time he saw Loong was way back in Canada, when he was out there on a gig.  At the time his (former) colleague/friend  (tn: probably Tsui Yong Yong) had a brunch appointment with Loong so he tagged along, as having lunch with Loong was indeed even harder than winning the lottery.  Since then they had not met so he truly cherishes her show tonight.  (Q: Are you going to surreptitiously observe and learn the (opera) skills from her? 偷師) Steven says it is impossible to 'steal' skills from her; she's that good.  When asked about adding shows, Steven says she should and hopes that she would, so as not to disappoint her fans who could not make it tonight.  Stevens says he hopes to meet with Loong backstage after the show to take a picture with her. (Q: So you want to collect Bao Jie stamp?) Steven says: Definitely!

When asked about his present situation he said recently he was in Taiwan on vacation, and that later he would be filming a tv series in mainland.  When asked about the recent news on TVB plans to completely overhaul the Children's program, and on TVB executive, Sandy Yu's  'blood transfusion' shake-up plan of firing 5% employees annually, and later hiring 5% new employees to replace them, Steven says he has heard of it.  He says: "Though I'm no longer a TVB employee but my sentiment towards it remains. I hope TVB will retain some of the current employees. We all have sentiment for the company, and support reforms but I hope TVB will also take into account the human aspect too.

Steven's weibo response: 今天 14:19
Pao Jie's performance last night was incredible. A 100 thousand likes! The two newcomer performers were also excellent, add oil! P.S. I did not collect Pao Jie stamp, instead I was 'collected' by many jiejie. (older sisters)  昨晚刨姐演出簡直無得頂,十萬個like! 兩位新人也很好,加油!p.s.我昨晚集唔到刨姐郵,不過就比好多姐姐集咗[哈哈]

Note: Haha! The 'stamp collector' became the "stamp collected".  The analogy of the Cantonese coined phrase, "stamp collection" (集郵) is that instead of stamps, people can collect other stuff to add to their collections. In this case, Steven wanting to take photos with Loong to add to his photos collection of famous people.

Annoying flashbacks on pitnol

Absolutely, definitely, positively agree with the following episodic excerpts as they were my exact feelings during viewing - so sick and tired of continuous flashbacks, praying to 'lou tin yeh yeh' every few minutes, more flashbacks and the deliberate missing of each other. Indeed, pitnol is a very prolonged and exasperating, draggy series.

Blogger's episodic reviews on Perish in the name of Love
Blogger's overall review on Pitnol.

After about 5 minutes of their flashbacks  [..]And then of course we are back to that flashback scenes. Please I GET IT! THEY'RE MEANT FOR ONE ANOTHER! THEY FEED ON EACH OTHER'S LOVE TO GO ON AND ON AND ON. Now can we move on?????

********************

More flashbacks, sick to my bone.

********************

FLASHBACKS again! I am sick, sick, sick with young Sai Hin and youngCheung Ping flirting and lovey dovey.

********************
There is no longer any flashbacks but worse now, we have Turn Left Turn Right, that is Cheung Ping turns right and Sai Hin will walk left, more slow mo,

added 11/13/2015 blogger's review

Blogger's episodic reviews on Land of Wealth
Still reading her reviews, but so far agree with her pov esp. on MC as a log of wood in his performance and her delight in Steven's performance.
Steven Ma was excellent in my opinion. His gallantry, his gentlemanly Sung Man is so attractive I find Steven Ma very handsome in here. I find his Sung Man such a good man and as I have said for the past 7 episodes I hope he doesn't turn out bad. I hope the writers will not junk-afied Sung Man.
ep 24 What a drama this series is getting on to be, not that I am complaining. But I must say I really admire John Chiang and Moses Chan; no matter what happens, whatever the drama, whatever the sorrow, however momentous the situation, more for John Chiang than Moses anyway, they basically have the same facial expression! It took the deaths of his entire family (well his character's family) to die for Moses to show a real change of facial expression and for John Chiang, a near heart attack or his wife supposedly cheating on him (his character, by the way). Other than that, these two I shall now declare are woods, trees in fact, just different grades. Like an oak tree or a meranti or whatever. Anyway, move on with the summary, exciting stuff...
ep 25 The 2 best performances tonight had to be Steven Ma for his heart wrenching performance of the lovelorn and misunderstood Sung Man and the fantastic Tavia Yeung who have class and some fine acting for her Jun. The scene where she accused Sung Man was great, so was the scene where Sung Man stood there and looked at her go. These two played off each other well and their parting was sad too. Fantastic performances by these 2.

News 2014 Nov Steven believes Lee Chong Wei's doping to be accidental

Steven's weibo message to Lee 11月9日 23:48
"Lee Chong Wei, I want to tell you this. I've watched your past matches with Lin Dan, truth be told, I rooted for my national shuttler, Lin Dan, to win, and he did not disappoint. Your losses notwithstanding, in my eye and that of many badminton fans, you too are also an exceptional professional shuttler, and likewise admired by many. I absolutely believe that in this doping incident you took the drug by mistake. I absolutely believe in your professionalism and your sportsmanship spirit.  I hope you will face this matter bravely, and take each step forward with positiveness and vigor. I look forward to seeing you again on the ball court. Lee Chong Wei, add oil!"

Epoch times November 4th 2014
馬浚偉笑稱「腳頭好」望港人開心生活

Since leaving TVB, Steven Ma's career has going well. Yesterday, at the Fulam (Seafood) Group Holding Ltd. Company's commemoration event of it becoming a listed company, Steven admitted forthrightly that he is well-paid as the spokesperson for the company, when probed he said it (fee) is in the 7-figure ballpark. As to Hong Kong Umbrella Movement, Steven hopes that Hong Kong people would use compassion, tolerance and peaceful methods to resolve the problem so that they can all have a happy life.

Steven is the spokesperson for two restaurant chain in Hong Kong, one after another they both became listed companies.  Steven jests that he is a good luck charm (to other people "腳頭好") so if any company wants to get listed in the future, just look him up as its spokesperson.  He reveals that he broke his habit of not eating mooncake  when he did the mooncake commercial.

When the subject of Hong Kong Umbrella Movement was brought up, Steven says when watching the news on tv he was worried by the numerous skirmishes. He hopes that people can maintain their equanimity, and not resort to using verbal or physical abuses to resolve the situation. He says: "Regardless students, protesters or the police, actually they all are exhausted. I hope they can resolve this situation thru compassion and tolerance. Don't condemn, don't fight; instead try to use some peaceful means to resolve the situation."

Steven says that he believes the students' motive, from the start of their truancy to their sit-down protest, was well-intentioned but that there were indeed some radical protesters in the demonstration. As he was not there, so was unable to determine those people's identities, he however stresses that he is totally against radical words and extreme actions, and hopes they would embrace that 'Living under the Lion Rock's (HK people) spirit' (獅子山精神). Let go of their conflict, focus on communication, and use peaceful methods to resolve the situation. He hopes they can all have a happy life.

Other news:
The event MC said Steven besides being a "rating lucky general"  「收視福將」should have another label,  which is  "listed lucky general"「上市福將」because the companies he endorses got listed one after another.11月3日 19:49

Steven says due to pre-arranged work, he will not attend the upcoming TVB anniversary gala.

Review: Return of the Cuckoo 十月初五的月光,

So, the filming of movie is currently in progress, but Steven is not in it though the movie is being touted as having the original cast. His character is killed off -  leaving his wealthy widow, Kwan Ho, free to love another man again.

reposted from AF#230
'Sneezer', on 28 Apr 2010 - 11:57 PM,
Start watching Return of Cuckoo, wow all the cast look so young back then, probably except Nancy Sit.. she looks the same!!!  I think it's like 10 years old but still really enjoy the storyline. The acting is a little sophmoric. ChiLam stood out and Steven is so into his zone playing this good guy character... I can see why so many like him through the character he played. At some scenes, the face slapping seem so fake and cheesy!! kinda funny to watch.

Tamaya: I should re-watch that series again. It is considered a classic by baidu netizens but I thought though above average I didn't enjoy it as much as other Steven's series - maybe because I watched it online, (inferior quality & buffering) but more importantly Steven did not have too much screen time. Plus I was super annoyed by Kwan Ho, especially her indecisiveness and willfulness. Anyway, most Steven fans think that Sittu Lai Seon is way too good for Kwan Ho, just like how Chi Yat Bo is also too good for fickle-minded Jing Gao. Yeah, Chi Lam stood out. Though Steven was a bit green in his acting, his performance was naturally done. Also usually goody-2-shoes characters can come across as fake and super annoyingly, but not Steven's Lai Soon who just seems so super nice with a good heart, and oh so very adorable. Are you watching the series online or from dvd? I don't feel compel to buy the dvd set as keepsake because Steven's screen time wasn't all the much, and the story is way too melodramatic for my taste, not to mention I'm not all that into angsty triangle love.  Overall, I didn't enjoy ROTC as much as I thought I would, considering its great online reviews, but then again I didn't enjoy many netizens' lauded TVB series either.

Sneezer on 01 May 2010 - 11:47 PM Tamaya - I watch Cuckoo on DVD as online is too slow and and the quality is choppy which affects the enjoyment experience. Anyways I finally finished watching Return of Cuckoo. Feel kinda bad for Lai Seon that he is the "fall back" guy for Kwan Ho and yet he doesn't know that. He thinks he got both, her heart and the person but in truth, he captured her physically. Their relationship is clearly not equal. The ending was open and abrupt, easily leaves me the impression that, based on her unwillful character, she may even leave him for ChiLam. Her heart is uncommitted - I totally don't appreciate her character. Nevertheless the open interpretative ending left much to be desired, I did enjoy watching it..only wish they develop more on Lai Seon's character.

*****************************
Mag scan: In ROTC, producer Tsui Yu On gave the role of Szetu Lai Soon to Steven, and in the latter’s portrayal, this 3rd person role that should have provoked viewers’ hatred instead set off a tug of heart war among the viewers. If at the time, Kwan Ho were to end up with Man Cho, then Lai Soen would have been the one secretly licking his wounds. (hence, reversing viewers' sympathy towards him.)

Akazukin: As for ROTC, I don't really agree that Lai Soon's 3rd party was written as likely to provoke audiences' hatred. Lai Soon was as close to perfect as perfect, it is hard to hate him. I remember reading an interview of ROTC scripwriter somewhere and the scriptwriter said that she was inspired by those wuxia story where the heroes can love many women at the same time, so she thinks if man can do it, woman can do it too. Therefore, Kwan Ho loves both guys but she can only love one guy physically and that guy is Lai Soon.

Despite me thinking that Lai Soon is a likable character himself, it is still necessary that the actor who acts him out make him likable and I think Steven did just that. I find him not only likable there, but also very lovable.

2013 Eta: Actually, a few years back, I browsed HK Golden Forum and I was shocked to read that many of its active members have hated Steven ever since Cuckoo to these days, totally merging the line of make-believe and reality. I kid you not.  Even now, they still hate Steven (blurring the actor for the character) for 'stealing' Kwan Ho from Chor Gor Gor - imagine that - such delusional people.
