Steven has a genuine liking and appreciation of people. Besides showing his affection for his 3 tvb 'sisters' namely Tavia, Fala and Linda, he also commented on his close friendship with his tvb brothers namely: Dexter Young*, Lau Kin Kong, and Evergreen Mak. (crhk-circles thread) .  And of course of his affection for Producer Leung Choi Yuen, too. During the airing of his own tvb series, Steven often chose certain cast members and crew members to showcase on his weibo.  Just read some of his past yahoo blog and weibo entries on his fellow tvb colleagues below -there is no doubt in my mind of Steven’s affection for his fellow TVB colleagues, who made up TVB. To Steven, TVB was not just a workplace with co-workers but rather his home away from home with his extended family of friends of many years.  He most probably had them in mind when he wrote the song.

There were rumors that Steven Ma was in tears at an earlier dinner Mar 15 between TVB artists and management. (Ms. Lok + Norman Leung+ Mark Lee) It was understood that Steven did not shed tears for himself, but was worried over the future prospects of TVB. Steven confided to Norman Leung regarding the plight of the little-known state of TVB artists. Steven hoped that TVB management will place importance upon the matter, as an increasing number of artists would otherwise leave, resulting in greater losses for TVB. 2011 sep

Do fans know their idols' body double? Well, I do as do many SM fans because Steven has introduced him, Ah Hin, to us on his weibo. And once when Ah Hin got hurt doing a stunt on Steven's behalf, SM fans knew about it too cos' Steven wrote about it on his weibo, and Ah Hin received many SM fans  'get well soon' messages. stunt double intro

In a TV series production, besides the producer, director and cast, there is also a large group of behind-the-scenes distinguished ‘ministers’ (gong san) participants before the series can be successfully completed! Today, I write this entry to pay tribute to our group of stuntmen! And to upload some of their photos here, to let everyone get to know this group of ‘shed blood not tears’ group of ‘behind-the-scenes heroes’.

This afternoon, I chatted with my imperial bodyguard brothers. They are the new generation of artists. Listening to them, I could really appreciate their hardship.  Truly, in this day and age being an artiste is getting more and more difficult!  But, regardless how situations may change, a person’s state of mind is what counts.  How you see yourself, that’s how other people will see you! Once you nonstop developing your value, your self-confidence will naturally increase.  Don’t waste time to complain. 學而思習而行 is the best the policy!  (Turn learning to thinking, turn practices to action)  Brothers, let’s all work hard together!

Frankly, I do not ask much from the people around me. So long no evilness is entailed, I am more than willing to extend my hand in friendship. Can't believe Steven slung a bag across his body. It is bad enough that a man of his age would do that but to do it while attired in a western suit posing in his friend's wedding picture? So terribly incongruous. What were he thinking? Nice suit but his pants bunching up at his shoes is a distraction. Anyway, congratz to Dexter and his lovely wife.

weibo 7/20 Wuhan-Beijing ended

7/20 15:57 Wuhan-Beijing trip has come to an end. Truly have gained a  lot. I'm grateful to all new and old friends' affection and support on this trip. Thanks for your trouble on my behalf. Your presence once again reinforced that I am indeed blessed. (I will not numerate each and everyone of you because of the limitation placed on the number of characters. Anyway, you all understand) Beijing, au revoir.

ETA: 7/21 Steven left Beijing and the very next day, 7/22 the heaviest storm to hit Beijing in six decades, closing airports and causing massive flooding.  And the storm will get worse tomorrow. Steven was so lucky to have left Beijing when he did




Upcoming events for Steven in Hong Kong

7/22: Steven most probably will drop by at HK Book Fair between 2:30 - 4pm to show support to Tsui Yong Yong who will be there during that time period to promote her book on HK artists spanning 30 years. Her book begins with Leslie Cheung and ends with Steven.

7/29: Steven is the only friend from the entertainment circle invited to Dexter Young's wedding banquet, He will be part of the groom's 'brothers'.  Dexter and wife have earlier on registered their marriage last May.

Steven Ma joined TVB 19 years ago as a singer turned actor, and later becoming TVB  first line siu sang. He has filmed countless tv series but has had few romantic rumors, however he has great affinity with Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen and Linda Chung, respectively. With his rich life experiences he occasionally counseled these three women and also tried to help them resolve their problems, and so by and by, he unconsciously took on the role of a big brother to them.  Starting today for 5 days consecutively, Steven will reconstruct his growth fragments to piece together his journey of singer turned actor,  and other details of his life.

Over the years at TVB, besides my three god sisters, Tavia, Fala and Linda, there are many other artists including Kenneth Ma who also called me 'Big Brother' but I get along better with Linda, Fala and Tavia, who I also collaborated the most with, and have the most fate with. I first met Linda in 2004 when she filmed her first tv series, Virtues of Harmony 2 《皆大歡喜》and at that time she was already playing a couple with me.  In 2007, Fala acted my younger sister in 'Steps' ,  and in 2009 Tavia collaborated with me in Sweetness in the Salt as a couple and we became acquainted.

Admit to be tight-lip and an Attentive Listener
Although we did not formally become god-siblings we do maintain a very good relationship. We chat often and I am more than willing to help them resolve their problems. I admit I am very tight-lip. When they talked to me I would just listen. And if I gave them advice I would just as quickly forget what I said. Once the younger sisters finished venting they would be ok! But if there is stuff they need me to resolve I would do my utmost to help them. I believe it is because of this that they let their guards down with me. My birthday earlier on last year, the three sisters all came to celebrate with me.

I once told them if they were ever bullied by anybody, they must speak up. I won't let anybody bully my three sisters! Although I'm no martial art expert but I can support and help, and would unhesitatingly lend a helping hand, this is my promise to them!

Praises Tavia for having a brotherhood feel
Actually, they all gave out a different feel to me. Tavia is a very independent woman, and among the three sisters has the least problems. I don't need to worry about her. She is a person who upon seeing me from afar would come running over to give me a hug. Personality wise, she is more tomboyish compare to the other two,  at the same time, more mature. Our relationship has a very brotherhood feel. haha! Athough we don't get to see each other often, I am still fond of her.

Fala is like a little girl when with me, and is also a very straightforward person, so much so she may even offend people unknowingly.  I've seen her relationship with reporter was not too good, her way of communicating was also quite odd.. so I as the big brother would advise her. For instance, her tone may not be all that appropriate,  so I would suggest to her to improve on how to express herself. Fortunately, she listened to me. I often remind her to do self-reflection because artists and the media are interrelated like lips and teeth, we should be mutually understanding of each other, and mutually supportive of each other.  In most things, don't be too overly stubborn! Recently, I've noticed Fala's improvement. Last week over the phone, I recounted my experiences to her; other people not necessary would accept your first reaction! Although being smooth and slick entails some fibbing,  which actually I can't accept, but I'll use a different method to handle this: I choose not to speak! That way, I don't have to lie.

Exhort to maintain a pure heart

I have known Linda the longest but she is actually the one I am most worried about. One time, she left a message on my weibo saying that she is a big girl now, but I still worried because Linda is truly too naive, too simple and can be easily bullied.  Working at TVB inside its 'greenhouse' protection, of course she is fine.  But if she works outside TVB then that is tough to say. Back when Linda just entered the industry, we were having lunch together and I exhorted her that learn whatever she wishes to learn but do not learn to become bad, do not do 'unclean' things.  Must maintain a clean and pure heart. Linda has been able to do that. And her acting have improved much, I feel very gratified.

Maybe because I am used to taking care of my real sisters at home, so my words may come across as old fashioned, a bit of a father feel. But I am lucky to have found three sisters that I both respect and care for, and vice verse.

Fala Chen's wish for an Older Brother is half-fulfilled
Fala Chen, whose personality Steven Ma says is straightforward, is full of praises for this god-brother of hers. As the only child, she admitted candidly that she once wanted so much to have an older brother. She laughingly said that her wish is now half fulfilled after coming to Hong Kong and getting to know Steven Ma. "When I acted in 'Steps' I was still a newbie. If he found this leng miu (youngster) lacking in anything...he would mention it, especially on how to conduct myself when handling interpersonal situations. In many situations he taught to be patient and to control my feelings. When faced with a situation, don't run off my mouth at the first instant. That could easily offend other people without even my knowing it. In this field, he has good affinity with people and has experienced much, so of course, I will listen to his opinions, at the same time, grateful to him for teaching me interpersonal skills.  I have also mentioned this older brother to my mother. Previously during Ghost Writer promotion, my mother came to Hong Kong to support me and she got to meet Steven. Even though we did not ceremoniously officiated our honorary sibling-hood but we keep up our relationship really well. We are sincere in our interactions. I know Ah Gor does not care much for ceremony."

4 close brothers
Steven besides having three beautiful god-sisters in the entertainment circle also has three very good brothers: Evergreen Mak, Dexter Young, and Lam King Kong, whom he has been friends for many years and often hang out outside work.  He expresses that their friendship is gradually accumulated over the years, and they are close like family.

"Evergreen and I have a very strong relationship. In 2002, we became acquainted when we filmed TVB 'Where the Legend Begins'. Dexter Young will get married in July (he registered last year) and of course he has invited me to his wedding banquet. During that time, I should be in Beijing filming another mainland China series but no matter what I will definite apply for leave to attend Dexter's wedding banquet, and also be part of bis groomsmen party. As for the other close friend he's Lam King Kong.  Not everybody may know about our friendship but people in the industry often always say "there's not true relationship in showbiz" . I think we have broken this saying. It could be that the people who said this have not encountered a true friend yet or maybe they are unwilling to hand out their heart to communicate with other people. Actually, artists are not necessarily "phonies".

TN: I would rather Steven stop talking about his 3 sisters, constantly. He comes across as a too overly fussy big brother but the truth is he's not their big brother. These 3 fadans are doing just fine in TVB unlike him. So who among them need protection?

haha!  No surprised that Steven would invite Dexter to his show. He and Dexter have become close since their collaboration on the stage show, Chinese Hamlet , few years back.  Very happy to see Maggie as one of the guests.

Personally, I prefer Steven inviting guests who are at least Chinese educated, as the questions are extremely difficult, no point inviting guests who do not have an educational foundation in the Chinese language.

Nov 25 night: After its last show, Hamlet's 《王子復仇記》organizing committee held a special celebratory dinner to reward the cast and production crew for their two months of hard work. The chairperson, Mrs. Alice Chiu (趙曾學韞),  and TVB executive, Virginia Lok, both attended the dinner and congratulated the cast and crew for a successful run.

A large number of celebrities turned out to support Hamlet, including: Lam Ka Sing (林家声) Connie Chan Bo Chu (陳寶珠), Kent Tong (鄭則士), Fung Bo Bo (馮寶寶), Wayne Lai黎耀祥, Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and Yao Wei (姚玮). Also, there was a group of disabled people and chronic patients who came especially to support Steven in gratitude for his years of social work as well as to present him with their congratulatory flowers. There was also a Taiwanese Steven Ma fan who especially flew over to Hong Kong to watch all 6 shows. When she found out that the organizer needed help to sort out and hand out tickets, she immediately volunteered to help out.

The audience collectively praised Steven for his stage presence and noble bearing and that he held the stage well; in short, his performance was brilliant. Steven was delighted to hear that, that all his hard work was well worth it. “What I’m most happy about is that I got to know a group of good friends, especially Dexter Yeung. We met for the very first time at the rehearsal, but we clicked immediately and became fast friends. Dexter has a lively personality and a good heart, also he is very hardworking. We’re now buddies".

“What I felt badly was that in the 5th show while dueling with Michael my sword accidentally removed his wig from his head.” That was the worst goof-up in the whole run. After dinner, the group continued their celebration in a karaoke bar. There Steven profusely apologized to Michael for his blunder, which the latter graciously accepted, in turn reassuring Steven that it was no big deal. The organizing committee has plans to take Hamlet on tour in China. If the plans pan out, then the cast will have a chance to collaborate again.

news 2007 Hamlet: Ma Zai’s Theatrical Play Won Applause.

“Tale of the Prince’s Revenge”, (Chinese Hamlet) a theatrical play whose cast also included a group of TVB artistes consisting of Steven Ma, Sonija Kwok, Michael Tse, Dexter Young & Lo Chun Shun, debuted the night before (Nov. 22nd). TVB bigwigs, Ms. Virginia Lok and Ms. Chen (曾勵珍) attended the play to cheer on the cast and show support. Connie Chan Bo Chu was also there to support her son (Dexter). Other good friends who attended included Joyce Koi and Emily Kwan (關寶慧). Despite Ma Zai’s earlier appeal to friends to substitute the customary congratulatory flowers with fruit baskets, he still received plenty of flowers that night.

After the show, Zhen Jie and Ms. Lok went backstage together to congratulate the cast. Zhen Jie demonstrated to Sonija, a first timer in theatre performance, on how to gesticulate more naturally and subtly. Sonija was so nervous she was not even aware that she had stepped on Susan Tse’s robe during performance

Also making their theatre debut, Steven and Michael overcame their nervousness to successfully complete their performances without a hitch. They were very into their characters. Steven was very elegant and graceful in his period costume. His intense histrionics scenes elicited loud applause from the audience. Michael’s performance was also very well acted.
