Reminiscing: Healing Hands1

Dr. Joe was the character that started my fandom domino effect. And of course, 1997- 1998 was a very difficult  period for Steven as his mother's health deteriorated rapidly. I was all that more awed by his awesome natural acting talent in portraying a happy, sunny character opposite of his own mental state at the time.

Yesterday, Steven Ma left for the United States in preparation for his three concerts with Taiwanese singer, Lee Yi Jun, to be held in San Diego (Harrah's Casino) and San Francisco (Cache Creek Casino) on May 9th and May 10th, respectively. As tomorrow (May 10th) happens to be Mother's Day, Steven has prepared in advance both new songs and classic oldies to celebrate that special day with his audience. Steven is feeling the pressure as the concerts will have live band accompaniment, plus he will sing the late Anita Mui's《親密愛人》(Intimate love). He hopes his rendition do justice to the song's essence. When finished with his concerts, Steven will stay back in the US for another day to relax. Later next month, June 7th-8th, he and Susanna Kwan will hold their duo concerts in Niagara Fallsview Casino in Canada.

Steven said recently he was really into the new footwear from the US, and at one time he even bought five pairs of new shoes in one go. However, with his hardly worn sneakers already filling up his shoe cabinet, he felt he went overboard with his shoe craze. So, this US trip would truly test his resolve to restrain himself from buying more shoes while there. "I truly don't want to become a shoe shopaholic."

Aside, Steven's home is under renovation recently so he is temporarily staying in a residential hotel. Though the renovation is most inconvenient, it is necessary for a comfortable home so Steven has willingly spent a total cost of 7 figures. Steven jested that now he would have to work even harder to dig gold and to try harder to save money, even more so, he has to restrain his shoe buying impulse.

Browsing the Cache Creek tickets site, not many seats are available for purchase.
Looks like, there is only one price for all seatings at US$118. Haiz! Steven, is there a reason for not giving your fans a head's up on your upcoming concerts?

ETA 3/27/2015 Well, Harrah's tickets are now on sale on ticketmaster. So, Steven's concert should be held at Harrah's instead of Pechanga as previously stated by Sandy Lau. May 9th 2015 (Sat) Mother's Day Concert @ 8 pm at Harrah’s Resort, Valley Center, CA. Ticket on sale 3/27 @ 10 am at Ticketmaster

Updated 3/30/2015: It's confirmed Harrah's not Pechanga is the venue of Steven's upcoming concert.

Per Sandy Lau's info: May 9th 2015 Mother's Day Concert is at Pechanga Resort and Casion, Temecula, CA. But I can't find Steven concert on its event listing. Sandy Lau's info left on SM FB says that Steven's May 9th concert is held at Pechanga Resort. So, not Harrah's as listed on Ticketmaster (tickets sale starts 3/27)? Confused, I called up Pechanga, and was told there's no SM concert scheduled at all at their place. Next, I called up Harrah's and was told there is indeed a confirmed Chinese concert scheduled on May 9th at their resort but has no info on who the performers are. So, either the venue has since changed per Sandy's info or Sandy made a mistake.  Revised 3/29: concert confirmed at Harrah's.

2013 Yeah Show Steven's testimony to Christ

I guess the nose injury at the time did indeed affect Steven's singing, which I'm sorry to say, sounded off tune and quite flat in parts - too bad. Poor thing, his face looked quite battered with those unsightly bandages pasted on it. Be that as it may, hopefully his heartfelt opening of his heart and his testimony to Christ helped those in the audience with their own demons to overcome.

If interested, do check out the "Christianity" tag on this blog to loosely trace Steven's conversion path into Christianity, specifically the links below whereby Steven talked in length about his conversation to Christianity in printin videos and in audio on his mother's illness and her death.

Talking about yeah show, its 2015 promo song on youtube.  Honestly, the song is both boring and bland and not at all arousing of emotions. Also, sorry to say, the overall group singing was weak although Steven sang well enough. Anyway, Steven will be the special speaker in the 2015 Yeah Show on April 18 in Sydney and on April 19 in Melbourne.

2015 Eastweek Steven Ma: I want to be an Educationist

Title: 我要當教育家
Website: 【東周刊】專欄:蓉蓉樂道 - website
Date: 2015 February 4

When Steven told me he had opened a tuition center with his family, I was not surprised at all because I knew that had been his biggest wish.  Met him way back in 1993 but our close contact was not until early 1999.  That year Steven’s mother passed away leaving Steven inconsolable in his grief, locked in despondency. At his lowest point he read a passage in the chapter on death from the philosopher, Teacher Tang Jun Yi’s book, “Experience of Human Life”《人生之體驗》. “The death of a loved one is an indelible pain. No philosophy can comfort you nor is there any need to look to philosophy for comfort because this pain is part of life [..] This is the period when your own morals will emerge. Henceforth, you will learn to treasure your surviving loved ones with a greater display of love. Henceforth, you will take life with a greater responsibility.”

Suddenly, Steven saw the light. Teacher Tang’s words had inexplicably enlightened him on the true meaning of life and death. This epiphany alleviated the hurt in his heart. He re-opened the long shuttered windows, welcoming back the sun rays into his bedroom and he got back to work.

The power of written words was that strong.  Thus, "I want to be an educationist” became Steven’s new goal in life.  Steven has no desire to enter politics - his work as an actor remains his primary occupation but outside of that he will focus his energy onto education.  “I like to promulgate education, nothing is more important than education. Education can surmount everything. Education can even surmount politics.”

Steven's family knows his wish. Two years ago his younger sister came across an interesting and innovative teaching material, incepting the idea in her mind to open a tuition center. Seeing the educational benefits of the program, the whole family decided to invest jointly in establishing the “I-Study Learning Center, opting to open their first center in the Tai Wai district in New Territories. The center grew rapidly with its ever increasing number of 400+ students and 20 teachers, and has now outgrown its capacity,  hence, the decision to branch out in Fo Tan. The branch is bigger than the main so can accommodate more students.

Currently, the majority of students in I-Study came from the international schools. The “I” encompasses multiple denotations: be “innovative, be “interactive” and “internet” as a teaching tool. Besides the academic curriculum, the school also actively encourages creativity in their students. The classrooms are painted in different colors such as light green, light pink, light yellow, and it also has a graffiti wall for the students to draw whatever they want, so as to foster a relaxing learning atmosphere for the students.

Steven is very happy and satisfied with the rapid growth of I-Study within the two years.  “The learning center is a joint investment between my relatives and me.  My eldest sister, my sister and my niece manage and run the school business.  They are doing an excellent job.  We hired experienced teachers from Australia and England.  I am the school chancellor responsible for marketing the school. Presently, plans are in place to branch into Shenzhen and other cities in Guangzhou.  Our developmental goal is to branch out into the mainland market."

Where does Steven Ma place his love? Not on top of the mountain or in the depth of the sea, instead he chooses the path of education.  An ambitious ideal, good!

[3 Weekly] Steven Ma: Next Station, the Heavenly Kingdom

pix source1 source2

Note: All I can say about this news is that thank heavens Steven can and will finally let go of his mother and stop grieving her death, and be able to completely move forward in life.  Hopefully, the renovation of his mother's bedroom/shrine is the symbolic tearing down of the guilt wall he had built around himself all these years. I was honestly perturbed when I first found out from a 2009 news that "Steven lives with his older sister and brother-in-law.[...] His father, used to his old residence, does not want to move in. Another room is reserved for his mother. The forest may be still but the winds blow unceasingly in it; the son yearns but the loved one is gone. (子欲养而亲不在) Steven personally chose the original wallpapers for her room and adamantly refuses to have it replaced. That room is off limits to all as it remains forever his mother's."

A separate news report affirms the above info: "though Steven's mother has passed away for almost ten years now, he still keeps her bedroom in its original state; it still has the original mattress and the original bedroom set".

And now I'm truly happy for Steven that he will tear down that shrine of a bedroom imbued with guilt, regrets and sadness, and turn it into a cheerful place of hope, not loss.

News tabloid 3 Weekly magazine vol 766 Stars Talk Steven Ma: My happy times

3 Weekly vol 766 Stars Talk - Steven Ma: My Happy Period《3週刊》766期 留星語 @馬浚偉 我的快樂時代
Steven Ma asserts that only now does he truly know how to enjoy happiness; only now can he do whatever he wants to do. He has been in the industry for 20 years; only now is the period of happiness for him.

“I've been in the industry for 20 years, only now can I decide on what I actually want to do, and not because I had to make a living. Thus, I’m very happy now. For instance, like what series to film, if the character is a 100% goody-two shoes (guai guai jai), or someone so nice he's almost a saint, I’ll certainly reject the offer. Just within this year I guess I've declined ten or more this kind of character roles. Because it's time for Steven Ma at this juncture to change.”

Steven has once lived in darkness. Faced with a cancer mother and faced with a sluggish career, his chosen lifestyle at the time only composed of work and care of his mother, brooking no friends and personal time in between. When his mother passed away in 1999 Steven succumbed to depression, fortunately he was finally able to get past that insidious affliction and regroup himself.  After his mother’s passing, Steven and his sisters took good care of their father; the father whom from young they had inadvertently neglected.

“Towards my father we have this sense of guilt; it’s not that we love him less but that because my mother was chronically ill so our total energy was concentrated on her. My father knew and understood. I believe he did not blame us for it though in truth we did clearly neglect his feelings.”

Ming Pao Weekly on Steven Ma 2014 May SM films mini movie for father

Promote new song, filmed mini movie for Father, Steven Ma depicts his father-son relationship

Last year Steven Ma wrote a song for his late mother, who passed away years ago of nasopharyngeal cancer, this year in time for Father’s Day he will release his new song, Father Bus (爸士), dedicating it to his father. In conjunction with the song, he will also film a "Father Bus" short film mv thus letting him personally experience his father’s 30 odd years of being a KMB bus driver. In the film he fully depicted his father-son relationship as he did for this interview. He candidly admits that although he has great respect and love for his father, in the past he rarely expressed his love towards his introverted father. He says: “My father’s sense of responsibility towards his family, his attentive caring of my mother thru thick and thin until her death deeply impressed me.” Steven hopes that thru his new song and mini movie, people would now pay more attention to father’s love, and that they will be less reserve in showing their concerns for their fathers in actions and words alike.

MetroHK article: 男人破迷惘 馬浚偉

男人破迷惘 馬浚偉
2014 June 6
source: metrohk.com

As the Chinese saying goes, “men at age 40 blossom like flowers”, and at age 42 Steven Ma is right now in his prime. The career mind Steven, like a workaholic, has been working nonstop in recent years, and as yet remains unmarried.  Recently, he personally produced a mini movie entitled “Father Bus”《爸士》as a tribute to his father.  Actually all along Steven has this wish to get married and have children but unfortunately his relationship with long time (ex) girlfriend suffers successive separations and reconciliations, ever decisive in his career Steven is presently at a loss with his love life.

As a first time producer and scriptwriter, Steven’s mini movie “Father Bus” is both a tribute and a Father’s Day gift to his bus driver father. The movie premise is inspired by Steven’s own childhood environment and memories. Steven says: "The boy in the mv (Chun Jai) is me as child. I myself portrayed my father.”  Most people have fuzzy childhood memories but Steven’s childhood recollection is distinct, even down to the details!  He says: “I remember things that happened when young, like how in the mv my father slaps me when in real life he canned me with a rattan, and how the si-nai (neighbor) calls me an ill-bred; that actually happened too.” The actual event was during one mid-autumn festival when Steven was about five years old. In the incident, the neighbor’s child tossed his/her burned lantern into a trash can which Steven later picked up to play. When the neighbor saw that she scolded him for being an ill-bred with no manners and even scolded his mother who was there!

News: Steven Ma's MV Short Film Dedicated to Father as Father's Day Present

To commend father’s love, Steven Ma approached his music album producer with the story of his relationship with his father, thus, the creation of his new song, Ba Xi (爸士) dedicated to his father. Originally, Steven planned to produce a regular mv accompaniment for the new song, but he felt that their story could not be fully expressed within that few minutes. It just happened at the time KMB* contacted him concerning some other job. To make his story more complete and meaningful, Steven proposed his short film mv idea to the KMB person-in-charge, consequently getting the latter’s approval the use of KMB venue and bus to facilitate the filming of “ Ba Si (爸士 )*. Steven's first short film as producer will debut May 19 in all KMB buses for viewing by their onboard passengers.

Steven specifically produced the film as a Father’s Day present for his father, and on that day June 15 he plans to surprise his father with the viewing of his 1st short film as producer and present it to his father as a tribute to his fatherly love. In the short film, Hugo Chan (陳泓達) portrayed Steven’s younger self, while Gigi Wong Pui Chi (黃佩芝), a performing arts student, portrayed his late mother.

Steven’s father, a retired KMB bus driver of 30 years or so, is a taciturn man who rarely expresses his feelings hence it was difficult for Steven to understand the full extent of his father’s hardships. So, Steven incorporated a plethora of real feelings into the film to honor his father.

Steven said: “During filming, while seated on the bus driver seat the image of my father driving a bus flashed thru my mind; my feeling was tumultuous, inexpressible; thinking back to all those years of him toiling day in and day out in this small cramped space. Today, buses have improved in many aspects, but in those days the buses my father drove did not have a temperature control device so he endured both the cold and the heat; very grueling.”

To personally experience some of the hardships in his father’s job, Steven drove a bus around the bus terminus since he does not have a bus driver's license so could not drive on the road. Clad in his custom tailored standard bus driver’s uniform, Steven was teased: “Where got such a good looking bus driver wo?” Steven said: “Today, I had the rare opportunity to personally experience my father’s job, moreover, this mv short film was my first time as a producer too. It has definitely augmented my experience as a producer."

*Ba Si = a wordplay on baba + the colloquial Cantonese word for bus.

KMB = Kwoloon Motor Bus
Steven weibo 2014-05-18 12:42 : Actually not only bus drivers but also mini bus drivers, taxi drivers, truck drivers and the like; everyday on the road for long hours cooped inside a cramped space, and when stuck in a traffic jam, the feeling is indescribable....tough; all for their families and livelihoods!

Had I been less in a daze I would recall more details than those here. It's like how someone said "Oh, that was SO good" but when pressed for details as to what SO good about it, she/he could not pinpoint the exact reason why,  just that it was; that's me. lol!  What stick in my mind are my euphoric feeling, the exhilarating atmosphere, and my contentment of being in Steven's presence listening to him sing. Had I not written down the list of songs sung during my rare moments of lucidity I probably would have a hard time recalling them now. lol!

Unexpectedly I got to go to Steven Ma & Niki Chow’s Mother’s Day Concert  held in Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, USA, after all.  (2014 May 11 Sunday 1 am) . With nothing better to do as we are not interested in gambling we decided to wait out the 30 minutes before show time inside the Circus Maximus Theater  - truth be told I was just too antsy to do anything else or be anywhere else. [太开心]

Steven Ma wasn't well in Atlantic City concert, thanks friends & fans for their concern

Steven Ma was invited by Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, USA, as the celebrity performer for its Mother’s Day program. (sic. along with Niki Chow)  Given his extensive performing experiences in the US, this concert should be a breeze for him but unfortunately that was not the case. The night before his Hong Kong departure Steven did not get much sleep because of a stomach ache and diarrhea. He suspected it must be something he ate that night. He said: “I've had bad stomachaches before but none as severe as this. I suspect it's caused by something I ate the night before departure. But since I had to get on a plane I could only take some Chinese herbal tea and pain medicine for stomach ache for relief.  In flight, I only drank water and dared not eat anything.  I thought I would get better after resting for 10 hours or more inside the plane but when it landed I was still sick."

Steven's not feeling well in his concert

credit 蓉蓉細語  May 12 22:16   Steven keeping fit

May 11 16:47  The concert has ended, my thanks to all who were there for their support and enthusiasm. I'm very happy! Thank you to friends and little piggies for their concern. My health has improved, at least it did not affect my performance (actually it did a little la. This got to be the most times I messed up my lyrics.) But, I'm truly grateful to have successfully completed the show!  Aside, I want to send in my belated Mother's Day's best wishes; wishing mothers everywhere peace, good health and happiness, and also hope my mother in heaven heard me sing「倦」for her. May 11 22:40 I've had diarrhea for two days consecutively so of course become thinner! Don't worry, I'm fine now after my sleep.

May 10 10:35   I already had a stomach ache on the eve of departure, and it got worse when I got to America. So painful I could hardly stand up straight. Fortunately, I've brought along some relief medicines. Today, the condition has improved. The show is tomorrow, hope the pain will leave soon! Praying! ..p.s. did not drink any coffee or coke; food intake went down; milk drinking went up. Suddenly thin again...

May 8 17:34  Despite a fitful sleep last night the eyes looked even bigger. haha! Getting ready to leave for the Atlantic City concert, hope everything goes well!

note: From the wenweipo news report, looks like Steven had a bad case of food poisoning - bad enough when it happened at home but must worse in Steven's case.

Steven's interview on Pastor Lam's radio talk show

credit wong.helena86 for the audio clips used in my video

Steven's interview
In addition to the below news report here's a quick summary of the hour long interview.
The interview started with small talks on Steven's recent tvb series, Storm in a Cocoon.  Steven confirms that Poon Ka Yeung did indeed remember Bing Bing.  The talk segues into his nose injury during SIAC filming. When injured Steven's instant reaction was that at least it wasn't his eye that got hurt (because of his old eye injury in 2006), and his 2nd reaction was to ask for a mirror to look at his nose.  As actor, Steven was naturally concerned how the injury would affect his facial appearance. When teased by Pastor Lam that the nose injury at least proved that Steven's nose is natural, the latter is quick to assert that his facial features as well as his whole body are all natural, totally devoid of any plastic surgery or enhancement shots of any kind.

at 11:17 Retelling his mother's cancer; how her fight with cancer totally influenced his mind and attitude and his lifestyle. (turning him into a homebody taking care of his mother) He says his father not only took care of him and sisters but also his sick wife.  Steven says besides his mother he is also greatly influenced by his dad's belief and conduct.  Since his mom has passed away for so many years now, Steven has told his dad that if he wants to find a partner to share his life with, it is ok with Steven and his siblings but Steven knows his dad won't find another woman to replace Steven's mom. Steven still recalls the image of his sick mother holding onto his father's arm slowly walking down a pavement - that was a picture of 'in health and in sickness' of a couple who loved each other  'till death do we part' for life love.  But men of Steven's dad's caliber are hard to come by these days - father who was the sole breadwinner to his family of seven and who stood by his sick wife thru good times and bad times until her death, and even now remains unmarried.

Because of all the health problems that befell on his family from his mother's cancer to his grandmother's passing away a year later to his second sister's having a problematic birth delivery that almost caused his nephew his life to his 2nd sister diagnosed with breast cancer, Steven was angry at God and Heaven, and everything else. What use is God if he is so merciless and cruel?  Steven's emotional and mental anguish greatly impacted his thinking and his conduct. So, why did he change his thinking and embrace Christianity?

Though Cherish2 unlike its predecessor, Cherish, is not a Christian music album it is imbued with Jesus' teachings on love. The songs have their own respective love theme inspired by the various kinds of love between people  - romantic love (I'm getting married), sibling love (Platonic love), familial love (father's love), altruistic love etc than universal love of God for his people.

songs played: Platonic love;  I'm getting married.

The below report is extracted and loosely paraphrased from: metrodaily May 2nd 2014
Gist: Steven is well acquainted with health issues because of his late mom's 22-year battle against cancer to which she finally succumb to.  Even as his mother's illness raged furiously, seriously weakening her health and intensifying her pain and suffering so did Steven becoming more and more withdrawn during that period.  Because of his need to take care of his mother Steven said during that period he was even more homebody than a homeboy. (宅男) His daily living was simple -- work--take care of mom (home or hospital)--work.

Steven also talks about how his father stuck by his mom (Steven's) thru thick and thin all those years, and his attitude and conduct in turn greatly influenced Steven's own views on love.  "It's him who taught me what responsibility is, what 'for life' is, and what "till death do we part" is.

Steven talks about how he started work at an early age to lessen his dad's financial burden on taking care of his family.  Steven is truly a filial son.

Article compiled from the radio interview and various news reports.
Yesterday (4/29/2014), Steven Ma went on Sammy Leung (森美) and Kitty Yuen (小儀) hosted CRHK radio program, "Good Morning King" (早霸王) to plug his upcoming Cherish2 album second song, "I'm getting married" (我要結婚了). Earlier on he and Fala have already plugged their duet, Platonic Love《非戀之情》, of the same album.  Like its predecessor, Cherish2 also imparts Christian messages of love and faith through music, this time showcasing various forms of love as its theme.  Although the instrumental part of Cherish2 is also all live studio recording, Cherish 2 will not be marketed as a HiFi cd unlike Cherish 1. Also Cherish2 is locally produced in Hong Kong. To match the lyrics of "I'm getting married", the promotional giveaways to the radio stations and staff are made to look like wedding invitation cards.

Updated: Metroinfo 2014 apr 9 Mala promotes duet

metroinfo 《娱乐旗舰店》
Duet on youtube
English lyrics translation

METROINFO:

Notice how closely Mala sit together on that spacious loveseat? Wonder if the reporters asked them to sit close together for better shots or they did that of their own accord?

Reporting based on Mala's song promo interview in Metroinfo.
Salient points:
1) DJ does not believe in platonic love, and wonders why Mala don't the romantic feel

2) Steven explains their 1st & 2nd collaboration was as siblings and that's their direction of their relationship henceforth despite their later 3rd and 4th collaborations as lovers.

3) Fala reveals that because of their real life sibling relationship they both felt awkward when acting as lovers in Link to Temptations.

4)The reporter surmises that the only reason why they did not date is not because of their sibling feel but that they each had their own significant other at the time, as revealed by Fala. Their timing wasn't right at the time.

5) Fala says Steven seldom talks about his love life, that she had to go after him for info. "I would ask him, "Wei, how are you? Still single?" I worry about him and want to know, and also want him to be happy. Steven says Fala would call him up with this greeting: "Wei, how are you, you're not dead, are you?" I said:"Yup, not dead."

6) lol! 2:58  Fala: He's such a good young man (nam jai). Steven cuts in: A mature man (nam yan) Nowadays I'm scared of people using 'young/little' to describe me. Recently on weibo there was this one person called me BB (Fala: Want to puke) I instantly wanted to scoop him/her out (Fala: I too want to puke) No, used on females is ok.  Me as a man, to be called BB, I would not punch you?

7)Fala: He is very chauvinistic. Doesn't understand women's feelings. He doesn't understand.

8) Steven immediately protests: "Who said I don't understand. Women; very simple, just a little cajoling will do it. I'm not a romantic person but I'm very practical. If you ask me to waste lots of money to buy you this one crummy [哈哈] (lan guai) handbag and to stuff it full with roses; I could come up with it but would not do it lo.  (Fala: Such a romantic thing came out so unromantic in his mouth.) [哈哈] Steven: I can ask the martial arts people to arrange me to fly down using wire and when I land, bang, the fireworks is set off. (Fala: So old-fashioned!) And then above the sea appears your name, so sweet or not? (lam mg lam ah?)[哈哈] Fala: Are you back in the Qing Dynasty mie?  So outdated! Steven: Haha! [哈哈]

The female host vehemently states that she does not believe in platonic love among different genders. The hosts pestered Mala why they did not date each other, was it because they got stuck in their sibling roles?  Steven said since they had already struck up this sibling relationship, it felt weird to veer into a romantic relationship.  Fala chips in saying that at the time they both had their own significant others, and that they both knew each other's partner.  The hosts all praise Fala for her alacrity in revealing their situation.  They want to remove Steven from the group so that they can pry more info on Steven from the more forthcoming Fala. Steven says that he and Fala are quite similar in that they do not like to talk too much about their love lives.  That there is no need to open up their love relationships for everyone to know.

Again the female host insists that given Mala's closeness, it's only missing one tiny click to nudge their  platonic relationship into a romantic relationship, so what's keeping them apart? Fala says just like gor (Steven) has said I have already become his sister and moreover he already had, already had, had (stutters meaningfully).  Steven chides Fala for her: had, had, had litany.  (Male host says he admires Fala's forthright personality because she is so forthcoming, and  he asserts she is his goddess now! lol!) Fala cuts through the loud boisterous laughter; she says she has not finished speaking ba! -- because his (Steven) younger sister also has the same horoscope as Fala's so Steven is used to seeing Fala as his mui. (haha! Fala gotcha them!) Given their sibling relationship they actually felt awkward starring as lovers in Link to Temptations. Too bad that in their first collaboration their relationship was already as siblings. It would have been better if their status was not set for e.g. like mother-son, emperor-slave etc haha!

Fala talks about how Steven had helped her tremendously to deal with culture shock in both HK vs US, and ordinary life vs entertainment culture.

What made you two such close friends?
Fala: He always helps me to see things in different perspective.  When I shot Steps (their 1st collaboration) I was still pretty new to HK and people were just getting to know me.  But there was a lot of negative press on me making me very upset, unsettling me, and I did not know how to handle the situation, being alone in HK all by myself.  He would open up my mind, and whenever I had problems I would ask him and he would advice me on how to face those situations, and how to get along with other people and the reporters.  He helped me get through that period of time, I was often very frustrated - why did they set me up? why did they write such things about me? And he would say: Haiz! Mui, this is a good thing; it all depends on how you see it.

Steven cuts in: I didn't say it was a good thing, some of the reports were really bad. But I myself also have those too. I told her if that stuff is not true then you don't have to be angry. But if the stuff is true then it is not for you to get angry, you can only admit your wrongdoing. And if the stuff is fabricated to step on you then no matter how you explain or how angry you are, they still going to step on you.
